i like this version more but you kinda need to watch the first anime to understand some backstory of the characters. I watched dub version of both and i gotta say the voice for negi in the 1st version made me want to quit watching. The annoucer's voice in this one is funny tho cause it seems like hes trying to be serious but cant cause in the end its about 13 and under years olds fighting.

@TheCandyCane124 this is called Season 2 of the Negima anime, but its really more of a spin-off imo as it doesn't follow the (original) manga like the first season did and focuses more on gag humor. That said there IS a manga based off this version now called Negima Neo.
@TheCandyCane124 Yeah there is also another season after this one, although it only has three episodes, where Negi and the class go to Negi's world and participate on a competition.
Five OVA's. Not a season. (And what competition are you talking about? The Ostian tournament? Because only Negi and Kotaro are in that and it's mostly a background event to the real plot...)
Anyway, I really do not recommend watching them unless you've read the manga. You will be completely lost otherwise. The anime ended somewhere around 130 chapters before the OVA's begin.

btw, there have been alot of OAD that has been released. "Shiroki Tsubasa, Mou Hitotsu no Sekai" which are perfectly based on the manga.
So yeah, 1 more year and the original manga adaption will come in the screen. Which means an epic anime is coming in 2011.

I can't say I have a problem with it, though. All the changes they've done from the manga, I like (especially in Negima?!) ! I hope no one minds.
@mateusbmedeiros I kinda like both animes more than the manga. They left out the werewolf kid (who I found boring), they have Chachazero only appear in flashbacks (which I like because now Chachamaru can spend more time with Eva), and girls who have a crush on Negi in the manga (Chachamaru, Sayo) aren't really interested in him in that way (which I really like because not only do they not have a chance, but that decreases Nodoka's competition for Negi).
Though I gotta admit, both animes had a downside to me. The only thing I didn't like about the first anime was Setsuna and Mana hanging out (even if it was just business). I like Setsuna hanging out with Konoka and Mana hanging out with Zazie a lot better.
And the only thing I disliked about the second anime is that Asuna and Ayaka didn't bicker as much as they did in the previous anime despite Asuna being a lot more annoying.

That's how I got confused. I looked at a few anime episodes, got interested, looked up Negima to find out more about it on wikipedia (in the Characters section), but it had mostly manga-only info, so I'm like "What are they talking about?", then I looked on a more specific wiki site, found out that there were different anime series that were different from the manga series, and I'm like "Oh! I think I get it."
@tohitsumohinafan Well, I said at least some, but I'm sure that a loot of people watch the anime without having read the manga, that's why I think that it's kinda unfair to these people, because that title got famous because of the talent of the mangaka, and that includes the plot in its entirety, so when they change the plot to make an anime, I don't know, I just think that since the anime is an adaption, it needs to be totally loyal, at least on the plot...
That's a problem I usually have with anime adaptations (along with the fact that many studios just can't seem to choose good voices for the right characters).
Because of that I think it's much better to go for original anime. They tend to be a lot more well made, because it's a story with personal investment and a genuine creative endeavor, instead of a profit/popularity-piggyback.
Before, when i looked at it, i thought it was going to suck. When you listen to the special quotes after you see the episode, plus listening to the song, you'll be like, man this is awesome!!!! Epic!

This anime was actually very good but when you get to Episode 12-13 it becomes a mess. I seriously don't know what happened with the anime staff.
Its like they used this remake as a merchandise to promote the manga which was a shame because this manga series had so much to offer as an anime.

I looked at a few anime episodes, got interested, looked up Negima to find out more about it on wikipedia (in the Characters section), but it had mostly manga-only info, so I'm like "What are they talking about?", then I looked on a more specific wiki site, found out that there were different anime series that were different from the manga series, and I'm like "Oh! I think I get it."

@tohitsumohinafan Well, I said at least some, but I'm sure that a loot of people watch the anime without having read the manga, that's why I think that it's kinda unfair to these people, because that title got famous because of the talent of the mangaka, and that includes the plot in its entirety, so when they change the plot to make an anime, I don't know, I just think that since the anime is an adaption, it needs to be totally loyal, at least on the plot...

That's a problem I usually have with anime adaptations (along with the fact that many studios just can't seem to choose good voices for the right characters).
Because of that I think it's much better to go for original anime. They tend to be a lot more well made, because it's a story with personal investment and a genuine creative endeavor, instead of a profit/popularity-piggyback.

Yes, there are multiple Negima series.
This one, Negima!? takes a shounen bent to the series. Sacks the fanservice for a more action-based plot.
Negima: White Wing's pretty accurate from what I've heard, though. Haven't seen it yet.

yes, here's the rundown. Negima! is "what is this I don't even" tier (as in the worst of the worst), and Negima?! is mid tier. if they could make an anime that follows the manga, it would probably be god tier

@ajberry1 Er. What? It's "Mahou Sensei Negima! Magister Negi Magi", which is the first one, and Negima!?, the remake. There's also the OVA's, Nastu and Haru, Tsubasa Ala Alba, and Mou Hitotsu no Sekai.
