Technically, a hamburger is a sandwich. It contains bread, main ingredient (eg: meat), garnish, and a lipid spread (eg: ketchup, mayo). When you assemble a sandwich, the spread's most likely to go on the bottom because it keeps the juices from the meat from soaking up the bread. So technically, you just showed us the proper way to eat a hamburger. Eureka!

Another tip is to hold it horizontally while you eat, this prevents gravity from pull down on your condiments and toppings, and messing up the natural order of things within the bun. That way when you reach the end, youre not left with half the bun on top, with no bun on the bottom, etc...
