Yeah, my parents helped me pay for college, but 80% of the support I got to attend came from academic grants and scholarships that I earned. Well, I can remember when "conservative" meant "fiscal responsibility," for lack of a better term. I used to enjoy having discussions with my conservative classmates and co-workers because we would get into some interesting territory regarding economic theory. Good for him. I don't totally agree. Some conservatives aren't stupid, merely selfish and greedy and lacking in the empathy that makes human society livable. Calling them stupid gives them too much credit, IMO. But he said what he thinks, and you know--and he knows--the conservative attack machine will go after him like a horde of zombie serial killers. So it's refreshing to see someone on the left who isn't a spine donor.

You see conservatives as greedy or lacking empathy. The funny thing is that conservatives see that opinion as wildly naive and entirely ignorant of their positions and why they hold them in terms of fiscal economic and social policies. Liberals are short sighted in their assessment of what unintended consequences arise from large sweeping govt interventions.

There's a reason institutions of higher learning are full of progressive thinkers. And it's no coincidence that the signs at tea party protests are full of misspelled words and self-contradictory slogans.

I grew up in a conservative household. I started my education at a conservative school. But as I began to see how the world really works, I realized that conservative ideology is a lot of dogma that is only kept alive by endless repetition. Anesthesia for the mind, I like to call it.
