Quite interestingly, the first submarine was designed and built by one Cornelius Drebbel, and he used it to take James I under the Thames for a jolly. He also invented the fork. I'm amazed he never actually showed up on QI...
haha I love it :D Great laugh! Love both AC2 and Brotherhood. I didn't like the part in Brotherhood though where they had to imply that Leonardo preferred men (after the final Leonardo's Machines mission I think). 1. It's irrelevant 2. No one knows for sure, all we have is just speculations. Apparently Leonardo was charged with sodomy, but as we know, Leonardo was a curious person :)
@Akfilm92 Must remember, homosexuality was the norm during the time. Think back to the ancient greeks, homosexuality was practiced by nearly all men. Alexander the Great had sex with his soldiers during his campaigns.
@Daleksaresupreme1 Which was what made me laugh in 300 where they refereded to the Athenians as 'boy lovers', since if you don't know anything Spartans, you think they are calling them gay ... which would be a rather large case of hypocrisy.
@Selothi There have been sodomy trials involving women, but Leo was accused (but not convicted) of sodomy with a man. As far as how much the Italians cared... Not too sure about that. Sodomy was illegal at the time, but also very common in Florence. Which is why there were hundreds of trials. So everyone was doing it, but you could get killed if you were caught. Fun fact: in the fifteenth century, "Florenzer," the German word for a person from Florence, was used as a slang term for sodomite.
@majordbag2 The problem is how many US comedians do we have where their punch lines do not involve weed..... I mean honestly how many Comedians do we have in this country who know anything about history, and actually clever when it comes to their jokes.
@CWScott24 I think it could be done in that there are smart comedians but the main problems would be getting an American studio to back it up and find those kind of comedians since that would require going outside tested formulas which American studios almost never do.
The other big problem would be getting a host like Stephen Fry who could have the same chemistry with a contestant like Alan Davies, I mean, those two make up for half of QI's comedy.
@majordbag2 Panel shows for some reason have never caught on in the States like they have in Britain. I reckon American TV bosses think they look quaint and cheap (which they do, because they are, and is why they've pretty much replaced sitcoms over here). But that would never do over there.
To be honest with you, QI is not a cheap production considering all the copyrights for pictures, music, and videos. There are few countries in europe where an attempt on QI is worth it. The netherlands tried with little effort - not enough viewers, not working economically.
I just love the moments in QI when Stephen steps out of his "headmaster's" role and joins in the silliness with the guests, like doing impressions and joking around, because he IS a brilliant comedian. Love him to bits
This rivals the "Giant Tortoise" clip. When Stephen Fry drops the Brian Blessed reference, I was rolling on the floor.

@Akfilm92 Can't you sodomize women ? Just saying :P And I doubt it would've ever bothered the Italians that much.
Selothi 9 months ago 5
@Selothi
Haha, well yes, but the term "sodomy" is usually referred to a man, and I believe it was with a man he was discovered.

@Akfilm92 And who can blame him ? :P
Alright, let's stop this before things get out of hand.

I wish they had something like QI on US television, it wouldn't cost that much to make and it'd be better than most reality TV shows.
Of course they'de need decent comedians to make it work and it might just fail epically.
