These trams looks nice. I always loved prefered travelling by trams instead of buses. In Nitra,we don't have trams, just buses. For some reason, travelling by trams has always been an adventure for me. It's far more interesting and adventurous than travelling by buses. It's just something completely different.
I know unfortunately what happened trams in many cities. Sant Petersburg had about 700 km of tram tracks. I´ve always really wanted to know where is the biggest tram system. But find true information is really hard because often they write length of lines no tracks! I´m from Prague capital of Czech Republic. We have 141 km of tram tracks. In 1959 we had 159 km. There were some tracks deleted but it wasn´t so disastrous like in USA or Western Europe in that times.
I hope trams continue to come back to other cities around the world. There is no comparison between trams and buses, trams are infinitely better.
Not only Western Europe and North America, here in Australia we also dismantled the tram networks in most of our large cities. There is now only one large city, Melbourne that has Trams.
I agree. Trams are very nice and there is something in them. Buses aren´t so romantic. Trams are better to fight against cars. Now many tram system have problems in Russia. Sant Petersburg and Moscow trams system are reduced and some systems are dismantled. But also buses can help public transport. Like BRTs bus forms in cities like Bogota with dedicated bus lanes. Trams are the best. No as expensive as subway and better than buses.
I also think trams are better because they have tracks. When I get on a bus, I have no idea where it is going. but for trams, I can just jump on, see the route it is going to take then jump off when I get close to where I am going.
I absolutely agree. For visitors to a particular city, trams and trolleys are infinitely more appealing than buses because the visiting passenger is able to see the tracks ahead and decide he needs to get off. Buses are generally for "locals" who know the routes well.
except, I also just hate the whole concept of a bus. The stuffy air, the constant rumble of the engine, the continual turning...
The idea of someone else taxiing you around the place in his car. A tram on the surface s guided by the tracks and all that is needed is a conductor that accelerates.
I agree, because if, i head to another state, you have to know the name of the bus stop or suburb, with trams, it provides you the information and each tram stop has a number and a name!
I am from Melbourne. If he is travelling this slow it probably means he is running early. At certain points on the track there are sensors which time how long it takes to get from A to B. May be why he is taking his time I would think.
Hit 70km/h on the Box Hill end of the 109 a few times. Be careful when going over the ancient tracks/crossover at Burke Rd (up). May cause an earthquake.
Trams *always* crawl at a pathetic pace on the 72 though (as in 10km/h or close enough to), and somehow still keep on time.
The tram in this video is an A class on route 48. The usual speed limit of Melbourne trams is about 45km/h, 30 in the city, and 60 on the light rail and shared roads in the outskirts of the network, if applicable.
any ticket inspectors on this tram? i hate those bastards caught me going to work at 0645 in the morning to go and nurse! i didnt have change or time to buy a ticket from a store and i didnt have change so what could i do just be late for work? i hate those fuckers
As a tribute to Lenny Bates, may I suggest that one of the new 'C' Class Trams be named in his honour.
What about it, Yarra Trams?

This is now a unique Video because betweem 2:15 and 2:25 shows a Melbourne "Trammie", Icon!
It's the late Mr. Lenny Bates, who died on 27th December 2011 after a short illness.
He was still driving until mid December at age 81 and he first started driving Trams in 1955.
Lenny loved his job and rarely had a sick day off in 56+ years!
I think that I would be safe to say that no future employee in any industry will ever come anywhere near 56+ years continous employment.
A true Gentleman!

Are they comfortable?
If you want to see trams, travel to Poland. A lot has changed here since 1989, but trams are quite the same :D And there are a lot of those.

No, I live in United States of America and we have the worlds largest tram system.
It's about 1/3 larger than the one in Sydney

Where do you have the largest tram system in the world? In some US city? Bigger than 260 km of tracks? I don´t think so.

You're cleary another one of those know-nothing know-it-alls.
Sydney and Australia have very small tram systems. USA's are much bigger and better.

GREAT!
Watch my videos from Israel. THANKS!

Do the trams always crawl at this speed or is this simply because of the track being new and the area being under development still?
Other cities trams tend to run a bit faster.
svartmetall48 3 years ago
They are usually a pretty good speed.
