GW's goal is and has been for years to eliminate the independant retailers. They feel that they have grown past needing them and they want to get rid of people buying their products at 10% or so off from the indepentents... they want everyone to buy the products from them directly...
and no they don't treat you like children they treat you like walking wallets... that's all they care about... ;)
I'm a fantasy player, so having 40K rules more like Fantasy really helps. For me it will make buying 40K armies much more tempting because its not so alien in how its played, thus more money for GW.
i'm not briliantly happy about the bidding war cos i play guard and if i play against space marines i have to go first or use lots of upgrades and things
I don't know about this I still on the fences the changing in shooting worries me and I think more assaulting mech armies will be on top at least until we get on top of the shooting. One thing I do like is possible getting that wound allocations dance nerfed a little cause we came to kill more and less dancing.
i preordered the Dark Eldar Scourge and I got them the day before they came out in stores. however....i got the subscription of the white dwarf in April and i havent recieved a single white dwarf yet....WTF?
i have to agree wit h almost everyhting you said, i think that there are great things and good things, im not sure how the bidding will work but it sounds cool, i wonder what you will bid to go first?
Agreed. Im really not understanding the bidding thing to see who goes first though..And i do kinda like the rolling for first . i mean after all its a DICE game right Tony?
@EpicTerrain Rolling a single die roll to decide who goes first who setups first and which table edge you get, IMO takes all tactics out of the game. 3rd and 4th ed had it right, alternating deployment one unit at a time. You could get a peek at your opponents set up and counter it, as he could with you. 5th deployment rules seem to be, "lets speed this up" More for a fast paced tourney setting.
@EpicTerrain Its a dice game but its only used to set statisticaal percentages on certain things occuring. Its not much different than a video game saying this archer witll fire x amount of shots a minute and 50% of those will hit, and 50% of those will kill. Doesn't this sound similar to a rapid fire bolter fired by a marine at BS and S v. T? Same concept.
@EpicTerrain The game is played using dice, the game is NOT dice. There's a game for that called dice. :P Yahtzee might be interesting as well.
Games use dice as a medium to add unpredictability to the game to add the challenge of capitalising on good rolls, and coping with bad ones. The dice should not decide what you do, but how well you do, save in the case of a few units, like chaos dreadnaughts (not to say those are good)
The point of bidding is to equalis both going first and second.
@foolinjected101 I wasn't hating all the changes. And my major concerns were on how the rumored rules changes would impact new players. That being said, I did like Tony's take on it as well.
@foolinjected101 You dont think GW doesnt deserve some hateing? apparantly you havent been really looking at how they treat the people who still play their game. I dont even play GW but sure hell im pissed since they are supposedly too repersent this hobby and they give it the worst stigma and make it quite difficult too convince people that this hobby is not an over priced money grabing company run hobby. sorry they Doremicom had every right too treat GW as they did and his vid was very fair.
GW is no worst than any other corporation. I have worked in corporate America my entire life. The video was about upcoming possible rule changes. Not the expense. If GW is to expensive for you play another game. That is your right as a consumer. Vote with your money. I play Warmachine also, the game is good but not without its issues. All hobbies are expensive. Doremicon video was so negative, it turned me off.
@foolinjected101 all hobbys are exspensive? no thats what GW has brainwashed everyone too think. i play 15mm wargaming and it is very easy too get into and too keep supporting, so no perhaps large scale 28mm battles are expensive and in my view its a bad scale too use for large scale battles, 15mm is the way too go for that, 28mm should stay really skrimish for thats were it best fits. The corporation thing too if u look you will see only GW and abit with priv do that the rest dont ;).
3rd ed wasnt complicated at all. However, i feel that GW needs to build a rule system that caters to both hobbyist and competitive players. I dont think they should kiss "competitive" players ass's and build a system that anybody could start up and play, HOWEVER i dont think it should be checkers with models... Idk, if its no more complicated than fantasy then i think we should be good....just not too complicated.
I would like to see 40k 6th become more complex and I would like to see FB 9th(long ways off) retain some stuff of 8th but bring back the stuff in 7th that made it "competitive" as you would say. just my 2 cents.
I love how this is getting so much press, especially when it is just a unsubstantiated rumor. I would beg anyone who watches vids on this, or reads this on forums to take this with a substantial amount of salt.
lol games workshop is an idiotic company . wayland games is booming thanks too GWs treatment of them and their community. so many people love wayland games that when GW blocked their shipments too them, those people said "screw GW" and bought flames of war ect other game systems from wayland games because they love wayland games. and now wayland games is moving too a bigger warehouse and their doing great and GW just lost probally thousands upon thousands of customers :).

the dice roll is there for a reason, to represent the fog of war, if you want a tactical game which erradicates the dice rolls, play chess

Nice review. I agree with most of your comments. I watched part of the Doremicon video. Couldn't stand to watch his GW hating video.

Sounds like you really agree with a lot of the rumors. After seeing Doremicom's video with Smurf, I cant wait to see an RTD on this topic.
