it sounds nice and it had lots of power but the engine was just a lash up with a steel welded block that would twist and seize up shame ,a bit more r/d and a cast block and i would have loved one in my cerbera
What are the dimensions of this engine? Is there anybody out there with the manufacturing ability to recreate this engine? If I can't have W112BHG then I at least want to plop this engine into another car. This engine would make a 2002 Viper GTS very exciting to drive, just make some side pipe holes like the newer racing 12 has and you have a very very fast car.
@scoped98k couldnt agree more id love to see this engine in a Dodge Viper when they return the model in 2013 (estimated) forget fuel economy when youve got engine like this fuel economy doesnt really matter...
Typical UK dyno pull. Rev the bollocks off it for as long as you can and see if it breaks. I' don't know what resolution your dyno software has but did you have to hold it for so long at the top???
fer fuxache; wot r u lot, a bunch o' 12yo's that have never learned how a engine or a dyno work? turn ya hats round the right way n get an education. I am 40yo and work @ small drag racing engine shop in qld au, where we regularly build n dyno 900- 1200hp engines- just in case u want to flame me too!! the sp12 is awesome, & as i understand; "may have" had separate ign on each bank- PULL THE BLOODY PLUGS!! & yes, engines sound different on a dyno to what they do in the car. nuff said.
"In an interview then-owner Peter Wheeler, said that TVR had tried to record the car's power on an engine dyno. The dyno was rated at 1,000 bhp (750 kW) but the test resulted in its input shaft being broken. To get an approximate figure TVR engineers tested each bank individually; the result was 480 bhp (360 kW) per bank, suggesting a total rating of 960 bhp (720 kW). ""
OK, on a second listen it does sound like a Speed 12, only the recording doesn't capture the full rumbling bass the engine kicks out in person. A fine engine though. What was the dyno reading anyway, or did it snap the dyno shaft again? haha.
i can see 6 exhaust outlets on the near side so obviously there is 6 on the other............= speed 12. i did my work experience there when i was 15 and sat in the speed 12 it was massive and extremely bare inside. sat in the prototype tuscan R too!
vivalalvam, mate obviously you dont no much about cars, and you just go off what you read ond not what is common sense... it is a 7.7 litre v12. v12 as noteted from the two banks of the engine, ie two inlet pipes that you see waving around... also the sound is a dead givaway. a v12 has a very different sound. nice try though... as for only dynoed once, they need to be run in... and properly tuned, the motor is fuel injected... dont comment if you dont no your stuff, i hate seeing it on this site
That was me on Liam's account. I know a fair bit about cars, and I do not believe this to be the sound of the Speed 12. even the owner of the video agreed via private message it sounds a few cylinders short. It could just be the recording though, and if it is, i take it back. As for my comments about it being tested as two straight 6s, that is a FACT.
As for proof... how about i saw the engine with my own eye balls when i worked at the factory. I filmed the video on a cold friday afternoon when all but the engine guys had gone home. I was standing in the engine room itself which is definately not recomended and my hearing has not been the same since. The video starts to shake a little near the end which is me trying to cover my ears whilst holding the camera still. Oh, and there were definately 12 cylinders. Just enjoy it.
Fair enough! I salute you for workin on such a monster! It never achieved its true potential....with more time and money I truly believe it'd have been eating Veyrons for breakfast. Put it on a track on slicks, and it still would. And NOTHING, compares to its sound.
@abhir87 I took a photo of the dyno screen when it blipped to its highest reading. It shows 875HP at 6203RPM with 741ftlb of torque. The photo has been copied a few times and can be found every so often on the net. It is the photo that goes with this engine test. Incidently, it was only a 'blip' and as it was going into the car for the customer, it wasn't to be maxed out. That is to say that it probably never saw the peak of the power curve that day!
@Nickthebassist01 It does not import the quantity of cylinders have the engine, but basically it is for the same design of the crankshaft that the engines of 6 cylinders and those of 12 cylinders sound similar, normally there is no sound difference between these 2
I believe they ony put the Cerbera Speed 12 engine on the dyno once.....the dyno rated at 1000bhp.....and it snapped the input shaft. This is more likely HALF of the engine, basically a 3.85litre Speed 6.
Input shaft? Since when do motors require a transmission when they're strapped to a dyno? By the way, there is NO way for any type of "V-Type" motor (no less a V-12) to be running at half displacement without it being controlled by a computer (Something TVR would NEVER do, EVER)! Not even Dodge's 5.7L HEMI V-8 with MDS shuts off that many cylinders! Next time you go off saying that its an I-6, how about listening to an Enzo or Murcielago? Just try to tell me they sound like I-6's, dumb fuck!
The story goes that the fully-plugged engine broke the dyno (that much more powerful then their other engines to date. So they unplugged each bank in turn.
It's not in a car or anything, just on a stand. So they can disconnect whatever they please.
Actually, I take only the "half displacement without electronics" part back. Technically, you could do it by taking out all the pistons, injectors and spark plugs & wires from one bank of the V-12, but that's not to say the added free play from the removal of said pistons won't have adverse effects, like spun bearings and scuffed crank journals. I just find it odd that it had to be done that way. Couldn't they have used the heavy-duty dyno at Cummins Europe HQ. It's capable of handling 1000+ HP.
Cheeky little fuck. Its in a a copy of Evo that the Speed 12 was only tested ONCE at full capacity, and it broke the dyno. So they took each bank of the engine (as its actually two engines on common crank, if you knew FUCK all about the car), and got 470bhp per bank. So shut it, you silly prick. You're the dumb fuck, not me!
Hi there, when was this video recorded? Thanks.

@dukefarm mate how much does it make 860 bhp or 1000bhp+.
since you actually built it , you would know best.
google just sells shit.
and tell tvr to build a veyron killer please.

lol, you can see that it has 12 cylinders...just look at it and use your brain.
btw, if you ever heard a speed 12 it was probably the whole car with its pipe. the engine itself sounds different of course
