First one has much better animation/art and music. I'm also more used to the old version (mostly because i watched that first), but brotherhood's storyline does seem decent. Other than that, i do not prefer this series over the orignial.

i understand what you're saying, but I always loved the manga more than the anime. i cried when nina died both ways, and if this new series does follow the manga, and they pull it off in anime form, im sure it will be great. i didnt really like how they ended everything in the anime, with the alternate world and the part with Dante and Hohenhiem.

The original anime was bad anyways. It had low ratings in japan (when that filler crap kicked in). The movie was only done because of fanfair, and it also sold very bad.

The brotherhood series on the otherhand sold fairywell, and they decided to make a movie.

Don't blame anybody but the ratings. People like good stuff, not bad stuff.

Well Huges was mentioned in the casting and all the orginal (manga) Humonculous(sp?) can be seen on the official website. So I think thats pretty much confirmed. The anime is probably going to start slightly differently though as a new (filler) character was mentioned in the casting. Hopefully he won't be to important and is just there to make the begining seem a little different from the first adaptation.

I take it that this one will be a pretty much straight up adaptation of the manga, but does that mean it'll still cover the first 7 or so volumes? 'Cus the original anime was pretty faithful to those, only around volume 7 does it stray off, so I'm wondering if this series will retread a lot of the stuff from the first series. I'm gonna watch it anyway because FMA rules :D

i guess it won´t be a continuation of the first series. so far what i ´ve heard it will be more like a redoing of the first series, more manga-like. so the storyline will start from the begining and follow the original manga, which is (at least i think so) better than the storyline of the anime... so that´s what i´ve heard and read... and yeah, FMA definitely is one of the best animes ever (but still, i prefer the manga version^^)

They created the first anime REALLY early into the manga's run, so the creators and the authour of the series agreed that the anime would have a different storyline.

Now, the manga has enough of a headstart that it's 'safe' to make an anime following the manga's storyline without it catching up to the newest chapters too quickly.

It would have to be from the start.

The manga has had details that don't mix properly with the original anime from nearly the very start, so it wouldn't make sense to try and start off from part-way into the series.

The first anime series of fma only followed the beginning of the fma manga, then the anime had a totally different story then the manga. This new series will follow the FMA manga which is if you don't know still coming out =P
