  • I love this song. Makes me feel proud to be who I am, even if some people consider me 'different.' :)

  • *Sigh* -_- some of these comments are so closed minded, ignorant and pathetic and make me remember why i'm ashamed to be human. But then there's other comments that make me proud of the select few that are decent. Thank you everyone with an open mind, and thank you Joan!! <3

  • this song has a poetic aspect to it which is just lovely. go Joan!!!

  • te amo joan!

  • I have had an androgynous aperance up until my 30's when finaly my "T" started to make noticable changes. now I have discovered i have GID.

  • 1:00 DUANE PETERS

  • I love this song so much. I myself am an androgynous girl. This is such a beautiful song by an amazing woman : )

  • it does sound like it says "it drives you nuts" hahahaha

  • Idk y, but i always thought when she said Androgynous, I thought she said "it drives you nuts" it still makes sense. Still fits into the song. Lol

  • Oh, this song is so beautiful..! It shows us that you can be different, but happy after all..! Love it...!

  • i love u joan jett. you are beautiful and gorgeous. Wonderful song!

  • te amo Joan, gracias por abrir las puertas para la mujer rockera <3

  • I'm in love with androgynous girls <3 to bad there's none in my closed minded stupid ass town

  • Always liked Joan since she got me through the first year of British boarding school in 1982. Tough times :-) Fun though!

  • The original version by the Replacements from 1985 is better.

  • I dont like how she is reading that book in the fiction section.

  • @robandbobx2 i think it's meant to be interpreted as an ideal or "make-believe" world where what she's saying is acceptable

  • this is a beautiful song <3 the lines " she doesnt need advice that they send her. shes happy with her gender" and " unisex evalution. tommorow who's gonna fuss" and " something meets boy and something meets girl. there both the same their over joyed in this world." are just amazing. how many artists would even consider doing a song with those messages in it? joan jett you are incredible.

  • @maxb095

Well this song was just covering The Replacements, so I guess they're the ones that are incredible rather than Joan Jett.

  • beautiful song and joan jett .

i love you, love you love me too, love I love you

  • i feel like they kind of get the narrative wrong in this video

  • I looooovee Joan Jett <3 I grew up listening to her!

  • great cover/video, but it should've said Paul Westerberg on the back of the book instead of Joan Jett

  • Kocham Joan Jett ! <3

  • this is sooooooooo shit compared to the replacements version. cant believe they let her cover it :s

  • Thank you Joan.

  • this video gives me faith in the future. no matter how naive that might be, thanks joan :)

  • DUANE PETERS!

  • We are not in the position to judge her and her choices in life she rocks and that's all that matters if ppl would take care of their own damn business they'd have full time jobs

  • Totally cool.the Replacements get ignored>Joan Jett gets major props

  • Love each other so! Closer then yoo know!

    -3

  • For those of you who don't know, this is originally a Replacements song:)

  • I Love Joan Jett!!.. I Love this sOng!!.. <3

  • yep I love her even if she could be my mother

  • I would love to see Joan Jett and Pink do a song together. That would rock!!!

  • joan jett is sooo beautifull <3

  • @sweenigami "Androgyny = Death"? Hah... would you like me to kill you now, or later. ;)

  • @IzabelMarrupho wow that was moronic

  • @sweenigami A comment, words, cannot be "moronic" due that they have no sense of self. But those who fail to understand them can... do you wish me to explain in further depth? You know, so you can really have a fully formulated opinion, then disregard what I say. It might help.

  • Joan Jett. Do i need to say more?

  • she changed the world! joan jett is so wonderful person and helped me to feel good about myself..

  • This is my favourite music video.

  • I wish I had heard this when i was 15 :)

  • I love this song!! I love her too!!

  • Joan could change the world for good with this song. Only if more people listened to this song..

Joan is the best role model, spreading messeges that state everyone is equal.

    Way to go !!!!!!!

  • The Replacements......

  • She look so cute in this video ^^

  • The Queen of Rock 'N' Roll.

  • this song is about rejecting gender roles not being a homo sorry also sorry for my hateful language archie bunker is my dad and the guy from gran tornio is my uncla

  • even if she is a dyke and the words to this song are written on her soul this is still a terrible cover

  • Isn't this song supposed to have some passion to it?

  • doesn't hold a candle to The Replacements, but nobody does.. I love Joan, but this is not one of her better moments.

  • i feeel sooooo much prouder of me because of this song!!! thank you joan....*thumbs up*

  • Every time I'll listen to this song, I'll have L.S.S. (Last song syndrome). This song is fucking cool! Joan, you're the bomb!

  • @LeviAustinMorris Wouldn't calling something 'stupid' imply the same thing as calling something 'retarded'? If I'm correct stupid ALSO has to do with mentally handicapped people does it not? You just might be a hypocrite. ;)

  • @TheREALnorp Actually, stupid can apply to some otherwise very educated people. In the case of this thread for instance, prejudgement based entirely on outward appearance happens at the hands of bigots that are well educated in the cultures they are raised in. Stupidity often comes down to environmental influence and a propensity (a weak one, at any rate) to "follow the leader" rather than think and act for yourself.

  • How has Joan aged so much better than John Doe?

  • Paul Westerberg is a rock and roll hero. Nice choice of cover Joan.

  • @mrhyde2484 What if no pop culture icons "got all political"?? We need influences like this in our society (for youth). I need people like this. Joan is a role model for speaking her mind and not being afraid to defend her views through art.

  • The girl who played young Joan is my cousin!

  • @SpideyFreakNikki for real?

  • @wsiklogfh Seriously!

  • @SpideyFreakNikki holy c**p that's awesome! i suppose she get to meet joan?!?

  • @wsiklogfh I believe her scenes were shot separately actually, but she's a bit shot model now. She's even in one of Papa Roach's music vids

  • @SpideyFreakNikki alright! that's cool.

  • @SpideyFreakNikki which one would that be?

  • @SpideyFreakNikki thats freaking awesome!

  • @SpideyFreakNikki Lucky her!! I'd pay all my money to be there haha

  • @SpideyFreakNikki

Than can you tell her that i might be in love with her *blushes and giggles*

  • Is anyone else reminded of Phoebe?

  • I want to be Joan Jett when I grow up.

  • 7 dislikes? You people are fucking retarded.

  • @asd10001110101 I fully support your belief that 7 people are ignorant for disliking this video. I personally would love to live in a world that wasn't bound by the construction of gender identity and gender roles. I would, however, like to suggest that you remove the word "retarded" from your vocabulary when referring to something that is stupid. For anyone who knows somebody with a mental handicap this word can be just as offensive as those seven people disliking the video. Peace and love.

  • who's the girl who plays "jane" in this video?

  • awwh joan ii loove you♥

  • i love this song so much

  • holy fuck i just saw duane peters... sweet

  • Hah, Joan doin a Replacements cover... i suppose if anyones gonna it might as well be her

  • @goluckyjuffowup She does cover songs so damn good hardly anyone knows I love rock and roll is a cover so I completely agree\

  • In case you're wondering why you never seen this CD, it was released only in Japan

  • 7 people are beyond ignorant.

  • So beautiful, I love Joan! -3

  • i love this so much.. <3

  • its not one of her best sounding songs, though the lyrics are meaniful and pretty :)

its chorus is really catchy, though :D

    love you joan

  • @beautifulroybon And you're kinda a hypocrite for saying that... How can you say you like someone and hate, what at somepoint, they have probably been through. I reckon Joan decided to cover this song because it damned well meant something to her.

  • @crazedbirdy9 and more than likely youre a hpocrite too. so shut the fuck up.

  • @beautifulroybon sure, if you feel that way, then yeah I am. However I wasn't actually making a statement with no proof... What you said was hypocritical. There is no other way of putting it. I, however have not said anything of the nature to make you jump to that conclusion. You're real big calling things queer and trying to run me down on the internet. Your words mean nothing to me, I just feel that you don't need to put a voice to what is totally an insecurity within oneself. That is all.

  • @crazedbirdy9 obviously my words mean something if you had that much to say.

  • Comment removed

  • Not in a direct sense. I don't feel any less of a person for what you say. I just feel for people that may be affected by your words. LGBT people go through what this song describes every day, people hating upon them just because of who they are, hoping thaat one day it will get better. LGBT people don't go around saying that heterosexual people are not welcome in their world and that they should go away, so why do heterosexual people hate upon them. Open your mind and realise words hurt.

  • @MsBeastofBurden

Are you kidding me? It's people like you who could really learn something from songs like this. So what if Joan doesn't believe in God? What does it matter if she's into girls and admits it? This world is damn lucky to have icons, such as Joan, who make people realize that being different is ok. If she helps people becoming comfortable about themselves, then GOOD. Whether people are gay, bi, hetero... It doesn't matter! Hating on people for those reasons is a waste of time.

  • @Marlene90210 I fucking LOVE you for this comment. Seriously.

  • @ThatGabbyMarang

And I love you for yours!

  • @Marlene90210

i agree with you completly joan jett is my hero i love her! and hate is just an excuse to cruel and evil. i stand up for myself and for gay people and i will do until i die. i have two uncles and im proud of it, i have 12 gay friends and i love them. i am proud to have gay friends and family. what has this @msbeastofburden got to be proud of? hate? nahhh i like my love :D

  • @Oncloudnine777

She's mine as well! I don't even have any gay friends or family, I just find it very unsettling how hateful some people can be. I'm not religious and I'm not gay, but I totally respect people that are. I don't even care, it's your personality that defines you!

  • @Marlene90210 >> ...it is not only a waste of time. It is also evil, and fascist.

  • @Marlene90210 I agree. People need to wake-up it's the 21st century.

  • @MsBeastofBurden wow are you special? IM A LESBIAN! and joan jett had nothing to do with it! its who i am and im proud! GOD DOES NOT EXIST! its scientifically proven you dumb fuck. i love this comment for the fact youve now commited a hate crime! HAHA the police are now involved, enjoy prison and dont drop the soap :D big F.U a..hole

  • @Oncloudnine777 I love your spunk, but "scientifically proven?" And how did that come about, did they boil water or something? Because the last time I looked, you still cannot create something from nothing.

  • @crazedbirdy9 I hardly read your first sentence. I'm not trying to make you feel like less of a person. Now you just sound insecure. lol. plus you seem super annoying. be quiet.

  • @beautifulroybon fine... not insecure, not interested. don't feel like less of a person. silence you want, fine... I'll carry on living my life and leave you to wallow in your homophobic comments.

  • @crazedbirdy9 okay now that you've said that.... i can see you're the one highly misunderstanding everything i've said. first off.... the song, the akward way the lyrics are put together and the stiff way joan sings this is what makes it a bad tune. sorry.... it's just not good music. also, not once have i tried to put you down, so when you're saying you're not offended when i have not tried to offend you really shows how insecure you are. lastly, i'm not a homophobe, just don't like the song.

  • really? that's john doe from x, you don't know that you're missing out. and he's gorgeous.

  • The message here seems to be that tolerance is best taught early. Down the line when all those kids each fall into one camp or another maybe it won't be a big deal to be- or to be seen with- an outsider. "It gets better" starts in 1st grade, preferably in Miss Jett's and Mister Westerberg's class. "Marcy says that when she grows up she's gonna marry Miss Jett..."

  • Love this video.words cannot describe, how phanomanal JOAN JETT is.

  • I'll wear a dress if it meant I got to be with Joanie.

  • she looks so gorgeous here... they couldn't have given her a more attractive "boyfriend"? lol

  • Comment removed

  • fucking love joanie's strong musical statements, wish she'd speak out on the issue seriously though.

  • soooooooo cool that Joan Jett covered this song!!!!

  • Duane Peters is the 'father who ain't a dad'

  • OOOOOOOOOHHHH so cute, I loved this was so fucking perfect LOL

  • Fucking love her!

  • Westerberg is awesome sung by Joan Jett.

  • What a beautiful song!

  • Who's the guy in the video?

  • Who's the guy in the video?

  • I understand the song, but if I was a dude called Dick I sure as hell wouldn't wear a skirt...

  • @teenagenutcase1 Are you sure you understand the song?

  • @Kurasuke Yeah, I was kidding.

  • @teenagenutcase1 My bad.

  • @teenagenutcase1 Who cares what you would do. The line "Here comes Dick, he's wearin' a skirt" is actually, most likely a statment in itself. If you ever happen to open your mind a little beyond yourself... Figure it out.

  • @crazedbirdy9 Dude, it was a joke. If YOU could open your mind beyond extended metaphor to think about the fact that maybe there are some people on youtube after a hard day that just need to say something daft, you might not jump down the throat of anyone who ever said something idiotic. Yes, I know, it was a stupid thing to say, but that's no reason for you to act like a smarmy know-it-all. I'll bet you don't actually care about what's behind this song - you just wanted something to fight for.

  • Joke? Ha.. Not funny. I do care about whats behind this song, I care about people that have or do feel this way. Having a hard day is no excuse. How bout you ask a kid whose gay or transgendered about high school? Talk to one thats called a fag everday for 5 years how easy their day is. Talk to a man that feels more comfortable in a skirt about how people can say 'theres that dick in a skirt', ask him about how easy his day is... And then he comes on youtube and sees your comment... Get it?

  • Oh sod off - I know it wasn't funny, I was trying to say that at the end of the day I often write/ say stuff I don't mean - one of my closest friends just so happens to have a transvestite dad and has to suffer from bullying all the time, and I know at least five gay guys. So don't you come in here like a smart arse trying to pick a fight with someone who doesn't wanna hear it. I'm fed up with this, so why can't you leave me the hell alone? Do you really have nothing better to do but this?

  • I have plenty of better things to do. If you've got gay friends and said something like you did earlier; if they care about their fellow peers and their rights, I'm pretty sure they'd have the same reaction as I did. I'm not trying to fight with you, just trying to make you aware that those sorts of statements hurt people, either directly or indirectly. Bullying of LGBT people is huge and often it is innocent comments that people make thinking it won't hurt that are a big part of the problem.

  • i just love this song, she speaks the truth when singing this ....

  • I want that book!

  • Even though I really tried my best to not compare this cover to the original song I was still disappointed. I'm sorry but her version just plain hurts to hear and the video is waaaay too cutesy.

  • @matthewwh13 I agree, man. I didn't know she covered it till right now. This is kinda bullshit.

  • yessss Duane Peters cameo!

  • joan is so beautiful <3

  • the replacements version is waaayyyy better

  • I love the message of this song! also, the couple in the begining are so cute!

  • I want Joan to read me bedtimes stories.

  • @BennetTheCat ME TOOO!!

  • @BennetTheCat Only bedtime story I can imagine her reading, is Motley Crue book :D

  • she aged like wine

  • 2:11 Johnny Ramone

  • I am androgynous . . . Joan I love you so much <3 <3

  • Beautiful.

  • @missivyrose oh lol thanks for the info :)

  • Love that Joan Jett chick!

  • great song!

  • i want joan to bend me over her knee, teach me a goddamn lesson!!!!

  • i want joan to put me on her knee!, teach me a goddamn lesson!!

  • @astroboirap yea ingornt dumass its not a school its a libary the song about how love can help u get past and over all type of things

  • @astroboirap fuck you fucking douch bag! she fucking rocks if u dont like her then why the fuck are u watching her video? fucking retard

  • 1:02 Yeahh Duane Peters!

  • so the guy in the bak of the class is his boyfriend or father?? :|

  • This is not a Fuck up video...I love this version I can relate to this song...I love Joan Jett!!! And she did a great job on this song!!! :)

  • Hey, I think her version is great. Of course, it will never compare to the original, and I'm sure she didn't set out to do the song thinking it would either. She's collaberated with Paul Westerberg (the guy from the Replacements who wrote the song) on other things, so obviously they are friends. Just leave it at that- a fun fresh new look at a great song, not to be compared to the genious original.

  • Kind of as a Toy Story vibe to this song/music video. Crash Test Dummies and The Replacements sing it more like a folk bar song.

  • People are too fucking conservative to get to know people for who they are, instead of how they dress. Plus, that's REALLY FUCKING SHALLOW if you're gonna shun someone for the way they dress. Just shut the fuck up, some of you probably know a gay, lesbian, trans/bi-sexual, and give them a hard time for it. Well, how do you know that they're not picking on you just as much for being an over-bearing, fundamentalist?

  • @russellband God bless you

  • Really terrible. It's just boring. She took out all of what made the original great without adding anything new of her own.

  • ...and thats why joan jett rocks

  • I had NO idea this song had a video OMFG OMFG!!

  • Great song....Great woman...I love her!!!Keep on rocking Joan

  • adorooooooooooooo muito fooooofooo esse videooo *__________* lindo!

  • okay. its obvious that the girl in the video is not joan jett. its a similair girl who is lip syncing. duh. the didnt use jett for the music video.

  • 1:19 ! Love this smile :3 Love her^^

  • That was really really bad.

  • I sure hope Paul Westerberg got paid alot of money for having his song butchered.

  • @nwana1977 Have you heard the version by The Crash Test Dummies? from 1991 I think

  • @themooddisorders Or the orignal by The Replacements

  • @crazedbirdy9 Of course I forgot to mention Replacements.... Paul. %

  • @themooddisorders Yeah, it's slightly better than this but neither cover was a good idea. Leave Paul's songs alone and quit ruining them please.

  • Has she had plastic surgery? Yes or no, she's still looks amazing! If yes...well then that's the best PS job i've ever seen. If no...well then it's a miracle and I still think she's the hottest girl alive XD
