  • im having problems with the D string. all the notes are in tune except the last few.

  • extremely helpful, thanks

  • awesome vid great info thank u sir

  • My guitar seems to be set up rather well. Nice to check it though. I have the original Floyd Rose. Glad to hear that's a good one. Useful information here.

  • yeah my schaller trem says Jackson on the plate

  • My Jackson san dimas model(SATURN) is gonna kick ass when im done

  • One thing i add to this info.... the saddle holding nuts strip real easy becareful or your bridge plate could get damaged

  • @MrGlenntipton VERY TRUE, everything will strip in time, ensure you are using the correct size allen key, it should fit perfectly, if your allen key set doesnt have one that fits JUST right, make sure you are using a metric set (measured in millimeters or mm's), American made anything uses standard measuring like 1/2, 1/4th. 7/16th etc...other countries use the metric system. Using the right size and slow steady pressure will extend the life of your nuts ; )

  • @holdenaj of couse i used the correct 2.5mm allen but the threads in the brass bridge plate stripped like butter so out of the six saddle mouting screws i have one self tapping screw there cause i "stripped" the threads in the plate

  • i am replacing some of the bridge saddles on my Schaller how do i know what size saddle goes where?(to follow the radius of the jackson neck)

  • @MrGlenntipton They will be (3)(2)(1)(1)(2)(3) (3)'s on the outsides, then (2)'s, and the center two side-by-side will be (1)(1)

  • @holdenaj thank you, this helps even though the replacment saddles dont have the numbers on the bottom, thanks the reply

  • @MrGlenntipton OK do this. Line them all up on a flat surface. Of the 6 saddles you will have (3) different heights. (2) short, (2) medium, (2) tall. Referencing my last comment, the (3)'s are the shorts, the (2)'s are the mediums and the (1)'s are the talls. So when they are all lined up in the correct order, they will form a inverted bow shape or sMTTMs (short/medium/tall/tall/medium/short)...this help?

  • @holdenaj it helps, but my saddles are 0,1, and 2's,but i get it , following the radius is pretty simple...once i had mixed them up and put together wrong...

lol, i thought i really lost my touch trying to play it with the saddles all mixed up

  • @holdenaj hell yeah , its pretty hard to find some one at the small town guitar shop who knows this stuff, i have tons more questions for ya man

  • okay, so i went too the pivet points and lowered the string but the wont go anymore, so do i move the saddles or what? i know how to setup the springs and what not, but the hieght is something im still learning

  • Very good video sir.Ty!

  • I'm just about to buy my first Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo (it's an inexpensive one) to put on a cheap experiment guitar of mine, and I'm worried that I won't be able to tune the intonation beyond the 'adjust it back and forth with your fingers until it's as close as you can get it'; that doesn't make much sense to me that there don't seem to be any fine intonation screws...

  • @ChronoGXay you can measure from the twelfe fret on the neck if you would like.(half the scale of the neck) for custom installations

  • @MrGlenntipton - I was referring to the ability to fine-tune the intonation at saddles... ^_^" Am I missing something?

  • @ChronoGXay I am rebuilding my Schaller floyd rose bridge plate. the individual saddles are of different heights( to follow fretboard radius)the first time i did this , i was un aware of the radius and put it together wrong. noticing horribly when i played the guitar, noe im not sure what order to put them in

  • @MrGlenntipton They will be (3)(2)(1)(1)(2)(3) (3)'s on the outsides, then (2)'s, and the center two side-by-side will be (1)(1)

  • @ChronoGXay oh , wrong post.... I am telling you that the distance from the middle of the twelfe frettto the nut is the same as the distance from the middle of the twelfe frett to the string saddle

  • @ChronoGXay If I understand you correctly, you cannot adjust intonation using the fine tuners. Those will only adjust the actual tuning. Intonation is actually distance, not pitch your strings are in. What perfect intonation accomplishes is being able to play a note at any fret and it be IN TUNE, this can only b accomplished if the entire set up is of the correct distance and height. I know i just explained that terribly!

  • @holdenaj - That's what I was fearing... during discussion with an acquaintance of mine, Charles Fisher, inventor of the Point Classic Tremolo (demonstrated here: /watch?v=VFPvhl-fIb4), I got an idea for a dual-action tremolo (Floyd Rose is a dual-action tremolo) where you can set individual string heights and intonation like traditional bridges, but lock the strings and saddles in place if desired). It then became an idea for a very unique dual-action hardtail retrofit most unlike a Floyd Rose.

  • its sweet that you did this for your brother. pretty helpful too

  • 1:45 all my nuts will be loose

  • was invented late in the Floyd Rose, there was invented by in 1970 or slightly later, is very good

  • Dimebucker!!!

  • thank you very much for your video. I have a problem but don't know if there's really a solution. I have been setting intonation in my guitar but there's no room to shorten the first string even in the hole that's closer to the pickup. Do you have an idea of what i can do??

  • @whitemousee Have you been helped with this issue yet?

  • @42lynchmob yes! thank you very much. I just repeated the intonation of the 6 strings after changing them and the problem dissapeared It's strange but that was what happened. I have seen that the right positions of intonation often change with no apparent reason.

  • @whitemousee Yup, old strings will do it every time.

  • @whitemousee it will change at weird times. I have been told that relative umidity and room temp can affect the wood, thus altering a previous perfectly intonated set-up...it will rarely be the same when you change strings, it is good to do it from scratch every time...

  • Thanks bro, it helped a lot. I had problems with setting up the intonation, I even broke the allen wrench. But now I know how to do it. Thanks a lot.

  • Ktulhu- sorry for the mix up, I get what your saying now. I have no clue what nut i have in mine. I am out of town and have no way of checking, but I will when I get a chance - sorry

  • @holdenaj ok, I'll check this vid to see your answer, thanks once again..

  • Ktulhu-second note. I have a Deam MLX and a regular Dean ML 79. They are very different in thickness of the body. MLX is about 1/8in thicker. Still go with the 32mm. If your ML is the thinner, you will be good. If it happens to be a thicker model, you will still be good but will have the option to upgrade toma 34mm if you go with the brass block. ( very easy to swap out too, Allen keys is all you need). Keep in mind, the more mass/weight you have on your block the more sustain. The brass

  • @holdenaj I red it just now, thanks, I made a block for mine with industrial tools, low cost and biggest dimensions possible..I was referring to the nut anyway, I don't know if the right nut is R4, R8 or R9..please, answer directly, so I can know when you replied me, thanks man..

  • Ktulhu- as far as I recall, the only measured component on the schaller is the block. Mine came with a 32mm block, but I ended up going with a brass block off of eBay (awesome decision btw) and I went a little beefier; 34mm. I am not sure that Schaller actually sells a 34mm, only 32/36/42 (I could be wrong here). I would go with the 32 to be safe, when u get it, open the rear, if you have another 2mm to spare, order a brass 34mm, you won't regret it. Search eBay for "34mm brass block".

  • Gh3rocks: I recall that there was a trem out there that required you to dump it (slack the strings) after pulling back on it. I may be wrong, but I want to say that was the Kahler brand. As far as FR and licensed. Anything that says "licensed", is sub-standard to a real Floyd or a Schaller. I've used both, and just prefer the Schaller. Not to say that the original FR's are any less in quality, it's just a personal preference. As far as your rig needing to be dumped again after you give

  • @holdenaj the schaller in the video is licensed right?

  • @mortimer2100 It is a legit Schaller from Germany, on the box it says Licenced under Floyd Rose Patents - this is not a cheap knock off Licensed Floyd, there is a diff..for a legit unit you will be paying at least $150-$200....

  • Hahah!! Never heard that before, but I'm from Arlington, Tx too, so maybe that's why!

  • @holdenaj hey man, I have to replace my bridge on a dean ml with a schaller, so I was asking if you can tell me the model of yours, I suppose u took the one with right sizes..thanks

  • you sound like DIMEBAG myaaan!!!.....nice information....thanx for sharing

  • I got a floyd rose special... so its made by floyd rose only its their own licensed tremolo

how does that compare to the schaller???

also when i do like alot of whammy and such and if i push the bar back far, it will get out of tune unless i push it back torwards the the neck. is that normal??

  • "...the shity korean ones..." hahahaha that was great. By the way, very good video, it cleared out all my doubts about FR intonation.

  • Aug66, my best guess would be that when you ares tightening down the locknuts after tuning, the pressure from the lock nuts on the string is knocking out the tuning. Mine does this too, I just retune with the fine tuners after I lock the nuts.

  • Great video , thanks Rockstar!

  • thanks man nice dean to. Ive got two dean razorbacks and one of them i restrung with heaver strings and im trying to tune it down to 1 and a quarter step so i can play with the pantera album but ive done intonated the bridge and got the bridge floateing level and got it perfectly in tune but when i lock it back down and start playing it it will go out of tune every time and i done pulled on the strings to were them in were they wont do that but it still does you think you can help me?
