this is probably the worst job to have on the rail road. i did it before. and dumped ballast we would run along side the gallords and dump the balllast with a lining bar. they said we could have gotten a lung disease called white lung from doing this work. the katy never used mask for protection and union pacific didnt inforce the rule. and the union didnt care. godbless and rip to those who died giving it their all for the katy.
Silly question but what excactly what dose the machine do? because I've never seen one b4 and I live at the side of the busy HULL to LONDON main train line here in Yorkshire UK, and hand on heart I've never seen such a machine, great vid 5*****
@villarule "Dirty ballast" can lead to drainage problems and roadbed deterioration. See my video entitled "CSX Mudhole!" to look at what happens when this occurs.
Does such a machine fit inside the schedule? Here in the Netherlands that wouldn't simply fit inside the schedule.. 7km from my home there is a railway with 6 trains each hour in east direction, 4 trains hourly to the west and 2 trains hourly to the north.. And that's only passenger trains.. One cargo train per 2 hours in east and west direction..
Well, these types of MOW equipment are often "worked in" by the dispatcher whenever there is a lull in traffic. I have watched them sit in a siding before for 12 hours, and not move an inch! Dispatchers hate them, and tend to look at them as something that will just "clog up the railroad."
You likely only have 1 rail line between 2 points, here we have many and can do reroutes of trains to get the job done. I assure you they do similiar things there, likely at night or weekends when not as many run.
I've seen railgrinder trains and other kinds of work trains replacing ties and such, but never seen a ballast cleaner!!! thats pretty interesting!!!
