  • mario yokoyama is not only a good teacher but also a good competitor.

  • hey are there anybody that are currently training at north Sydney PCYC? What's it like and how much is it? I really want to get into some training but I dunno if it's good there..

  • @minjis2

I've trained under Mario and Adriano for a while now and they're both excellent. Mario is the black-belt in this vid. Nice guy and a good instructor.

  • @socceroos123

thanks for the reply man. Are the classes strictly BJJ or does it involve MMA as well? Also how much do the lessons cost?

    Cheers

  • @minjis2

Just to make it clear, I don't train at the Sydney academy directly, I've been a number of times, but mostly Mario has come to our dojo. =)

In terms of class structure, its mostly focused on BJJ. There is also some no-gi and practical 'street' stuff in there too. Mario and Adriano have gleaned a great deal of their knowledge from practical fighting in Brazil - pretty much everything they show me is useful outside BJJ as a sport. Having done Hapkido, this was a breath of fresh air. =)

  • @minjis2

Ah, forgot to say, costs for me are different here. I'm not sure of Sydney's specific costs, sorry! Mario's number is on the website though at: gracieoceania (dot) com

Just be aware that he has a thick accent - you may notice it in the vid. =)

  • @socceroos123

thank you so much for your information man! You were a great help!!

Is your hapkido academy in Sydney as well? I'm kinda interested in that too haha

  • @minjis2

Nah, thats in a different state. =)

Hapkido is a great striking martial art and also has some really handy throws and wrist-locks (which I still use and find handy). I also enjoyed the discipline that was required to be good at it. I think its important to have diverse martial-arts knowledge, but I did find BJJ to be a more practical art than Hapkido - 1v1 anyway. =)

Hapkido for stand up against more than one opponent and BJJ on the ground against a single opponent. Works for me. =D

  • @socceroos123

that sounds awesome! If I was training for self defense purposes would you recommend BJJ or hapkido? Also are there any affiliated school of your academy in Sydney?

  • New submission fighting community just launched - waSUBi com au - join for free

  • Brazil is WITHIN America. Maybe PCYCN North Sydney means that Yokoyama had won in United States. A very common mistake: pretending to say that America and United States OF America means the same...

  • If BJJ wants to grow in Australia making it available to everyone via RSL youth clubs and PCYC's would be the best way to go

  • is that Omar from perth

  • @121069 yes

  • @graciehunter100 top stuff does he live there and good to see

  • I know people keep their socks on for sex but jiu-jitsu ???

  • lol

  • I think its great to see BJJ at PCYCs. Mario, please roll out more BJJ classes at PCYCs across Sydney!!!
