I dont understand what was all the meaning with the ''people who went up to the sky''.... I loved this movie so much, until about 1h something, it was when the SCIENCE-FIECTION began.... After that i didnt understand anything it all !

Some guy said she was dreaming the whole thing but she was not she was awake the whole time why did the writers let her keep the memory of the whole thing I do not know. Nevertheless, the ending was cool the whole movie was cool.

I liked this ending:the aliens returning the children and giving up on THAT particular experiment.I liked "triumph of the human spirit" sort of thing.Making a mother (an audience) chase ghosts for 2 hours and then end up in a terraformed asteroid would makes mockery of the storyline of an unbreable love bond between parent and child.The alternative ending might more creative but when no clues where given before hand it seems a rather desperate attempt to have a shocking twist for its own sake.

Wow I watched this movie years ago and thought it was amazing.

I saw it with the alternate ending and I thought it was far better.

Keep in mind that this was when I was like 6 and I didn't get that she had been dreaming which I have to admit is stupid.

What I thought had happened was that they had taken her not her son and the others weren't there and they were testing the children to see if they could forget.

Now THAT would have been a better ending.

@langstonwilde25 Yes she had a son. the aliens were experimenting with people's memory and a major part was her memory of her son. Unfortunately for the alien it did not work on her. This movie really went to show the strength of a woman and the love she has for her child and how that bond and love forms from the time of one's conception and that external forces could not break it.

There is another version of this movie with an extra scene at the end where it shows what her son was seeing, but couldnt get to him. it explained a lot and added to the end of the movie.
