I think it is just Compiz Fusion. And you can run it on every distribution of linux. And I think all of Linux distributions are same. Just different names...
never could boot the graphical interface and search for the command line tool to boot the graphical interface but still no luck as many of the distrobutions use startx to do it but not sabayon or Gentoo
In most debian based linux distros such as sabayon or ubuntu, u can use a specific program called ubuntu tweak that will allow u to tweak and change whatever settings you want! U can download it through the software center or from the main site. :) Linux RULEZ!!! I have downloaded and burned to disc about 13 different distros! :D
Which Linux distribution has the best usability, is the fastest, less memory consuming, stable, has the best software and are safest?
I have Mint Isadora,, and I like it a lot because it has high usability and is very stable, but he mention a dozen I don't know.. How would I choose, if I knew nothing about Linux?
Mint has its flaws, it hasn't had a breakdown, but something it doesn't like. For example it seems to struggle with Thunderbird, when it is indexing many emails, it gets short "hangs".
I remember this... this was my reason to try Linux... Don't use it much now, though (well, of course I have wobbling Windows). But what I like about Beryl/Compiz was that all the effects are "out of the way", so no effect will influence negatively on user experiense, they only "add" to it. This was a HUGE problem with Vista... beside all the other problems with that OS.
By the end of this video I just wanted to hit this guy, he basically went on about windows for nearly 10 minutes! I never turn on compiz, its just eye candy and uses up processing power!
Eye candy is nice, but I wish people would focus on making DX emulation easier to do. Currently, the only way to play most Windows games is through Wine or Cedega. Wine still can't run a lot of games correctly, and Cedega has a monthly fee. There's a free Cedega, but you pretty much have to be a programmer to know how to work the damn thing.
I'm using a custom version of Windows 7, which has crap removed and is heavily tweaked, and it runs fast. I got my cake, and I can eat it too =D
I do not aggree with everything he says, but I like both Gnome with Compiz and lightweight desktop environments and WMs. Sometimes I enable Compiz in LXDE or XFCE.
U know this guy is an interesting phenomena. He really never says N E thing useful. Chris, you're like a typical journalist. You don't know shit but talk a lot as if you were an expert. No wonder you lost your job when they changed the channel.
@lozthegreat1 Your wrong! That is what a live cd is for, You can run any live cd distro without a hard disk installed at all. It runs entirely off of the cd and ram.
this video is crap, desktop effects are not important at all, their a waste of time. Sabayon is a nice distro though, i'm actually writing this on Sabayon.

So what dont you like about the appearance of Ubuntu? Is it the brownish desktop environment that it comes with as default. Maybe you are using a style called GNOME. just go tothe homepage and download the sabayon new version and you'll see Is really nice (now better than in that time when this guy was showing us thislivecd)
I'm about to get a Sabayon laptop, I've already worked under Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSUSE, and I'm a consultant, not even in IT.
But even though, I am a believer, I still have some issued with the system as a whole.
-OOo is virtually unusable. First, it's ugly as sin, it's incredibly boring, and exporting to .doc, .xls or .ppt will systematically screw up your layout, effectively preventing you from making anything that looks pretty.
-On Ubuntu, I used Evolution mail client and a patch (can't remember the name) and I finally got exchange to work, but boy, that was some work!
-There are WAY too many interface options. Apparently, that's good, but think about it: how many times have you sat at your desktop, and next thing you know, you're on Facebook or Youtube? imagine that, integrated in an OS. You get the picture=productivity exterminator.
if you just want to have a look at Linux live CD is great but to experience the real benefits of Linux you really have to install it on your HD. But this is realy cool video!
Ditto. This guy thinks 'POWER' users like MORE gimmicky desktop futz and better my sister in a whorehouse, than my brother in a Microslop OS. Real geeks don't give a rats bum about your wobbly windows. Rolling your own device drivers, kernel tweaks and clever regular expressions in bash scripts, that's stuff of real geeks and power users. You need to take the trainer wheels of the thing and install Linux as the default OS and give it pride of place, then learn some REAL geek skills.
@skepticoz You don't realize there are different types of geeks. RegEx mean nothing to a roman mythology geek, nor a house automation geek, nor a star trek geek for instance.
Wobbly windows are of interest to desktop tweaking geeks, Automated hardware detection is of interest to free desktop geeks.
Not every one into Linux is into the same aspect of Linux.
@skepticoz Yeah I know - the absolute LAST thing a power user ever wants is gimmicky BS desktop animation & bendy windows & bla bla. I use XP using the classic (drawn) shell - is about 3X faster than Linux even with LXDE or XFCE! (those R their so-called 'streamlined' desktops, much faster than KDE or Gnome, & they still SUK compared 2 'Classic' Win shell in speed. & yes that's even with their B$ Lin-Animations turned OFF).
you can have those effects on any linux os - just install compiz-fusion and compiz settings manager and bobs yer uncle. Sabayon just comes with these effects as default.
i ran ubuntu 8.10 with visual effects really smoothly on a computer with a pentium4 processor and 128mb graphics, ON LIVE CD! linux is cool but not really useful
Not really useful? What can you do on a microshaft machine that I can't do on a linux box..? Besides get viruses and have devastating system crashes. I wouldn't say that Ubuntu is the best choice of distribution, but it is far better than windows. If you actually take the time to learn linux you see that it is very useful.
Well, GNU/Linux has experimented many, many changes from its early years, has advanced in many areas, not just appearance but functionality, creating and improving many features that have made a system faster, more stable and more useful in any needed area for you.
im not, i honestly havent used it and i have no idea what it is er anything, and from this video clip, well it didnt help me one bit, ive seen other video clips but they werent anything special eighther, from what ive seen HONESTLY it looks more like an application to make cool desktop animations. i know its probobly more than that otherwise people wouldnt be saying "linux is the best" but ive never seen anything good to it YET.
thanks man, haha, i really just wanted info onn it, cuz everyone says its good right? i mean i just wanted some more imput, and when i visited their website...it really didnt help.
yeah, you can put the linux os image on a thumb drive and boot your computer off that. i personally use a live CD but if you do it the CD way you won't be able to use the cd drive
Horses for courses, folks. We get a smooth multi-desktop spinny cube using Gnome/Compiz-fusion on a Celeron 540 with intel 810 integrated graphics, super smooth on intel 1.8GHz 2core with nVidia 7600, good on AMD 1.8 with nVidia 6250 but s o s l o w on a p3 700 MHz! A lot of it is down to driver quality, imho. Think that is why the intel on-board engine does the job, surprisingly.
The 2 most sophisticated desktops under linux are gnome and Kde.
In fact, when i switched from windows to Linux, i chosed a KDE distro because it is more similar to the windows desktop. But, as soon as i tried gnome desktop i realized gnome was way more functional. It is a matter of taste, of course.
All the other desktops are lightweight, more suitable for old hardware or some specialized distros (like opengeu, xfce + Enlightment 17. Just beautiful).Search for opengeu (ubuntu based distro).

I'm about to get a Sabayon laptop, I've already worked under Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSUSE, and I'm a consultant, not even in IT.
But even though, I am a believer, I still have some issued with the system as a whole.
-OOo is virtually unusable. First, it's ugly as sin, it's incredibly boring, and exporting to .doc, .xls or .ppt will systematically screw up your layout, effectively preventing you from making anything that looks pretty.
iJul1609 2 years ago
-On Ubuntu, I used Evolution mail client and a patch (can't remember the name) and I finally got exchange to work, but boy, that was some work!
-There are WAY too many interface options. Apparently, that's good, but think about it: how many times have you sat at your desktop, and next thing you know, you're on Facebook or Youtube? imagine that, integrated in an OS. You get the picture=productivity exterminator.
Other than that, plenty advantages with GNU/GPL:

I'm going to install the OS onto my 1TB HDD :)

if you just want to have a look at Linux live CD is great but to experience the real benefits of Linux you really have to install it on your HD. But this is realy cool video!

I always thought OSX was called that way because it was using X and not because it's the 10th version...

Poser-geeks use Compiz. Real geeks use fluxbox/twm and other tiling and/or lightweight window managers.

craigrbb u dumb ass do u even know who Chris Pirillo i dont think so noob and he has a wife
arranmc182 2 years ago

@skepticoz :
Good one! :)
brijix223 1 year ago
@skepticoz You don't realize there are different types of geeks. RegEx mean nothing to a roman mythology geek, nor a house automation geek, nor a star trek geek for instance.
Wobbly windows are of interest to desktop tweaking geeks, Automated hardware detection is of interest to free desktop geeks.
Not every one into Linux is into the same aspect of Linux.
rgzdev 1 year ago
@skepticoz Yeah I know - the absolute LAST thing a power user ever wants is gimmicky BS desktop animation & bendy windows & bla bla. I use XP using the classic (drawn) shell - is about 3X faster than Linux even with LXDE or XFCE! (those R their so-called 'streamlined' desktops, much faster than KDE or Gnome, & they still SUK compared 2 'Classic' Win shell in speed. & yes that's even with their B$ Lin-Animations turned OFF).
Deathrape2001 1 year ago
almost true, most windows users want effects, something like KDE,
Gnome is a bit more original , it doesnt look like mac or windows, fluxbox has a purpose : older computers ,
most programmers or power users dont care about effects at all.
numenor20091 2 years ago
you can have those effects on any linux os - just install compiz-fusion and compiz settings manager and bobs yer uncle. Sabayon just comes with these effects as default.

Linux has long perfected the balance of Eye-Candy and Performance.
Without needing Vista's 128mb of video memory requirement.

i ran ubuntu 8.10 with visual effects really smoothly on a computer with a pentium4 processor and 128mb graphics, ON LIVE CD! linux is cool but not really useful
DandamanV 2 years ago
Not really useful? What can you do on a microshaft machine that I can't do on a linux box..? Besides get viruses and have devastating system crashes. I wouldn't say that Ubuntu is the best choice of distribution, but it is far better than windows. If you actually take the time to learn linux you see that it is very useful.
Hax138 2 years ago 3
Totally agree. So bad DandamanV has no argument to prove what he said.

so i heard linux was like a complete operating system at first but now i see that its just basically a thing that makes your desktop cool.
AuzieAusborne 2 years ago
Well, GNU/Linux has experimented many, many changes from its early years, has advanced in many areas, not just appearance but functionality, creating and improving many features that have made a system faster, more stable and more useful in any needed area for you.

@AuzieAusborne
I hope your just trolling
Corbenik 2 years ago
im not, i honestly havent used it and i have no idea what it is er anything, and from this video clip, well it didnt help me one bit, ive seen other video clips but they werent anything special eighther, from what ive seen HONESTLY it looks more like an application to make cool desktop animations. i know its probobly more than that otherwise people wouldnt be saying "linux is the best" but ive never seen anything good to it YET.
AuzieAusborne 2 years ago
well instead of just angrily calling you an idiot like most would
I'll just summarize linux to you
1:Linux it self is a kernel(won't get into that)
2:A distrobution(Distro,Flavor)like ubuntu, suse is the actual operating system(like windows is an operating system)
3:Linux is not windows so things do not work exactly the same
4:Linux has been know to be very secure & stable on the ^ side but on the \/ side it has been know to be a bit confusing
message me if you want to know more about it
Corbenik 2 years ago
thanks man, haha, i really just wanted info onn it, cuz everyone says its good right? i mean i just wanted some more imput, and when i visited their website...it really didnt help.
AuzieAusborne 2 years ago
He's right. Compiz-Fusion made me turn to Linux. Linux-like desktop effects would be cpu and ram hungry for Windows.
mendozairis 2 years ago 2
true...Aero enabled in vista with nothing running = 856mb ram=
compiz in linux with a few programs=300-400mb ram xD

yeah, you can put the linux os image on a thumb drive and boot your computer off that. i personally use a live CD but if you do it the CD way you won't be able to use the cd drive

yes

Horses for courses, folks. We get a smooth multi-desktop spinny cube using Gnome/Compiz-fusion on a Celeron 540 with intel 810 integrated graphics, super smooth on intel 1.8GHz 2core with nVidia 7600, good on AMD 1.8 with nVidia 6250 but s o s l o w on a p3 700 MHz! A lot of it is down to driver quality, imho. Think that is why the intel on-board engine does the job, surprisingly.
Nice video, thanks!
BRAGrotor 2 years ago
The 2 most sophisticated desktops under linux are gnome and Kde.
In fact, when i switched from windows to Linux, i chosed a KDE distro because it is more similar to the windows desktop. But, as soon as i tried gnome desktop i realized gnome was way more functional. It is a matter of taste, of course.
All the other desktops are lightweight, more suitable for old hardware or some specialized distros (like opengeu, xfce + Enlightment 17. Just beautiful).Search for opengeu (ubuntu based distro).
