If there is such a thing as a rock "establishment", then punk and grunge are way more establishment than prog rock. Prog rock is and will always be outside the mainstream. It's too bad two of the genre's founding groups got so crappy in the 80s though (Yes and Genesis).

They turned cheesy hair metal on its head the same way Nirvana turned the existing musical landscape on its head when they busted through. The two were more like than not (I'm not speaking in terms of music style, but impact with Nevermind/AfD. I own over 200 Nirvana songs, got all the imports on CD from the '90s, all the re-issues and so forth in that time. I know more than you think.

If there is such a thing as a rock "establishment", then punk and grunge are way more establishment than prog rock. Prog rock is and will always be outside the mainstream. It's too bad two of the genre's founding groups got so crappy in the 80s though (Yes and Genesis).

Nirvana was at its peak for a small amount of time. People romanticize Kurt because he died young. I was one of the biggest Nirvana fans you'd find back in the early '90s. To me, the majority of it doesn't stand the test of time. Kurt would have been a great solo/acoustic performer.

They turned cheesy hair metal on its head the same way Nirvana turned the existing musical landscape on its head when they busted through. The two were more like than not (I'm not speaking in terms of music style, but impact with Nevermind/AfD. I own over 200 Nirvana songs, got all the imports on CD from the '90s, all the re-issues and so forth in that time. I know more than you think.
