If you wanna classify Substantial or other artists of his type, it's what's known as alternative rap, or conscious rap or jazz rap. Of course, if you really appreciate his music and the work that he does, you would just realize that he makes beautiful music that shouldn't need to be classified.
This is a milestone for those of us into underground music lol is hip hop gonna make a come back?....
