This is a recession, the days of toilet paper are long gone, teach the kids how to spot and use dock leaves. Another few months and toilet paper will be legal tender, not to be wasted on small children, American dollars on the other hand.....wipe away!

Well if the teachers took a small pay cut then the kid's wouldn't have to do this. Irish teachers are one of the best paid in the Western world. That's where the problem is. The teachers need to show a little humility in these economically bad times.

This is an absolute disgrace... How are we supposed to get out of this financial mess if we can't even invest enough to keep our primary schools (remembering that educational disadvantage and alienation often begins at primary level) heated, watered and supplied. Where was the Government's contingency plan for vital areas such as education during the boom? Where have our reserves gone? Why is the unheated pre-fab I was educated in over 10 years ago still being used in my former primary school?
