@blindandwatching Not really... According to the Internet Movie Database, this scene was cut from the original movie and rediscovered in the 1990s.

@Tenkuuken They certainly wanted to, but apparently this scene wasn't actually shown in the original release due to censorship. Which is a shame, because I think it's a beautiful and poetic scene, and I can't see why it would be seen as inappropriate. For all the nudity it's really quite chaste.

@Tenkuuken All the time. Along with all sorts of sexual scenes and situations. Turner Classic Movies has all sorts of stuff on "pre-Code Hollywood" (look that up) and they sell sets of pre-Code films on DVD. There is a documentary called "Complicated Women" that shows how pre-Code women were much stronger and independent.
