  • Hi - Just discovered your videos - - I'm envious. Would love to learn to sail, and spend some time alone on the water. Maybe an early retirement? - - You only live once. Thanks for sharing.

  • amazing stuff. im sixteen from melb, wanting to do this on my gap year in a similar sized vessel but with a mate. dont think i could do it alone. looks like an incredible struggle but well worth it for the memories and the accomplishment.

  • you forgot to mention were your from mate?

  • @nikosdemo Melbourne, Australia!

  • @bigoceansvoyage hay! i grew up there in northcote ,i now live in greece!how old are you if you dont mind me asking,i swear ive seen you before!

  • @nikosdemo Ha, really? I actually live in Northcote right now. Just near the Northcote Social Club. I recently turned 30... It is possible you have seen me before... I have lived all around Melbourne! Small world.

  • @bigoceansvoyage what a small world indeed!! Im 32 so yeah its possible.love your videos,im thinking of getting into sailing very soon!Im also coming to melbourne in a few months,i might look you up!keep up the good work!!

  • quite an admiral accomplishment. i have been harbouring ambitions to sail off into the sunset for some time, and have considered a contessa 26. A good friend skippers a yacht out of antigua, and i've always been a little jealous. How much sailing experience had you before realising this dream?

  • man with an auto pilot and solo in the ocean you need a harness, of couse aussi's don't need anything

  • @lewharve Hah, in difficult conditions I would wear one. But mostly I wouldn't.

  • sorry to ask this question so late..but did anybody mess with you out there in the middle of the ocean??

  • @theflipyeah Only my own dark, dark inner sanctum.

  • didi you saw samething estrange like i saw at ocean ?

  • Hi, how is it possible to sleep when you are alone, who is watching out for other boats and stff'?

  • @Roboflux I had a radar detector. Otherwise, I would wake up every hour or so, depending on where I was.

  • Greetings from Denmark.

quite an incredible voyage.. What kind of sailboat are you sailing in.

  • @biker4real A Jeremy Rodgers Contessa 26

  • Why did you leave so soon after you arrived? Was it just a weather issue? I think I would have stayed for a season (or two). Was there anyway to sustain yourself there? or what is your budget like? That's always been my biggest concern.

  • It's a fantastic trip, when you come to Brasil???

  • did you ever try to fish?

  • The opening few minutes are familiar. It's a long way, and your heart sinks at the thought.

It's not as bad once underway.

  • so I'm guessing your all done with this one how was your voyage and what is next

  • Not quite done... I will still sail for another few weeks to get right down to Melbourne. The voyage... Was extraordinary on many levels. What's next? It's a secret!

  • beautiful trip hope you can do anather ............but why solo

  • hey bro is that the best way to cross the boat from NY to Cali or would it be cheaper to sail though panama good sailing bro

  • It's not the best or the worst... It's just what I wanted to do. Maybe slightly more expensive than Panama, but more interesting in my opinion. Everyone does Panama!

  • Dont you ever stop and go swimming or something :P

  • No... Think of the Mary Celeste :p

  • I think your a pretty cool guy to do the

atlantic crossing by your self,I don't

think to many people have the nerve

    or confidence as you.

  • "I'll get there when I get there". That's the statement of a man who has made peace with the sea.

  • how big is the boat you sailed on?

  • How much did your sailboat cost? i love your vids btw. :D

  • thanks - constellation was around 6,500 british pounds - plus, all the additional to get her going...

  • Ok :D

  • So, when are you going to the next trip? :P

  • wow thats expensive to ship a boat that size across the country. when you leave california are you heading south to the galapapose or are you heading to west then south ?

  • expensive... yes... ! i'll probably head directly from berkeley to the marquesas islands. i am trucking so i can bike across country.

  • so where is your next sailing destination? and when do you lan to leave New York?\thanks for the great vids.

  • i will leave new york around march/april. the boat is being trucked overland to california, and then i'll sail across the pacific in may of this year (2009).

  • I have not. That's a dream of mine to do some blue water sailing though. Your videos are awesome. Keep up the good work.

  • You act like your really bored.

  • sometimes, i am. ever been alone for 28 days with virtually no wind?

  • One hell of a trip.

    Thanks,
