Hi - Just discovered your videos - - I'm envious. Would love to learn to sail, and spend some time alone on the water. Maybe an early retirement? - - You only live once. Thanks for sharing.
amazing stuff. im sixteen from melb, wanting to do this on my gap year in a similar sized vessel but with a mate. dont think i could do it alone. looks like an incredible struggle but well worth it for the memories and the accomplishment.
@nikosdemo Ha, really? I actually live in Northcote right now. Just near the Northcote Social Club. I recently turned 30... It is possible you have seen me before... I have lived all around Melbourne! Small world.
@bigoceansvoyage what a small world indeed!! Im 32 so yeah its possible.love your videos,im thinking of getting into sailing very soon!Im also coming to melbourne in a few months,i might look you up!keep up the good work!!
quite an admiral accomplishment. i have been harbouring ambitions to sail off into the sunset for some time, and have considered a contessa 26. A good friend skippers a yacht out of antigua, and i've always been a little jealous. How much sailing experience had you before realising this dream?

Why did you leave so soon after you arrived? Was it just a weather issue? I think I would have stayed for a season (or two). Was there anyway to sustain yourself there? or what is your budget like? That's always been my biggest concern.
Not quite done... I will still sail for another few weeks to get right down to Melbourne. The voyage... Was extraordinary on many levels. What's next? It's a secret!
It's not the best or the worst... It's just what I wanted to do. Maybe slightly more expensive than Panama, but more interesting in my opinion. Everyone does Panama!
wow thats expensive to ship a boat that size across the country. when you leave california are you heading south to the galapapose or are you heading to west then south ?
i will leave new york around march/april. the boat is being trucked overland to california, and then i'll sail across the pacific in may of this year (2009).

The opening few minutes are familiar. It's a long way, and your heart sinks at the thought.
It's not as bad once underway.
