I have the same exact bike, I love it!!! Yes it is different from a sport bike in the turns but I guess if you want that type of ride then you would buy a sport bike. The sportster is the longest run production bike Harley has. I get 53-55 mpg on mine with drag pipes and a stage 1. Did 250 miles last Sunday and was itching for more. The only difference between the 883 and 1200 is .50 piston diameter, the stroke is the same. You can get the conversion kits for $500 and bang, you have a 1200.
@dantana7747 If you have zero confidence taking a turn on a sporty you couldn't have much experience. I'm not trying to be a wise ass. You could scrape the pegs around the corner on this bike
My 2002 Evo 883 is bone stock, I let off the throttle other day at 105 mph, it still had a little grunt left and I weigh 240..Oh, it had 7900 miles on it when I bought it Feb 11 2009, now it has around 16,500, I love this Sportster..I'm on my 3rd oil change with Mobile 1 Synthetic.
man how much did you pay for one in mexico...i want to buy one but i need info...i have a goldwing 2008 but harleyys have more style please tell me the price...AND SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH =)
That is a very nice bike! I love my 883 Sportster and since I live on a very small island I really have no need for a bigger bike. My Sportster handles just fine around our very narrow and super windy roads. They are great bikes.
Don't agree with you guys. I got a H-D Sport and I ride it everyday (rain or sun). My biggest comment is that the original tires are up to crap, especially when wet. Otherwise if you are big enough and you can handle 250+ kg, this bike is major easy to ride, although it doesn't corner like Japanese makes, you need more effort. Still, everyday riding is cool. I already made 9000 km on mine.
Again, I maintain that Sporsters aren't worth the investment. I'll likely trade mine for a Dyna. Tried one and it's like night and days.... A Sportster 1200 has way too much power for the very poor handling and suspension of the bike. Would be like a 400hp engine in a Honda Civic....
Depends what you want out of a bike. I have a CG125 for actual transport. ;) The 883 I find ideal for long trips in dry weather or that lazy ride to the pub along the back roads on summer evenings. As far as bigger ones go, 15 grand+ for a motorcycle?? Sod that.
Just too expensive to ride every day. Buying a Harley feels like buying art, need a hermetically sealed room to keep it in and must never do more than 1000 miles a year! :)
Can't wait to get a Sportster? I just got one. It's so top heavy that it's very hard to take corners at higher speed. It rides like a tank. I mean, there's no suspension... I regreted on my second ride...
Oddly enough thats what I made of it when I test rode it a year or two back when the evo engine came out (2005 was it?). The 883, even with SE pipes and a rejet would wheeze to 80 mph tops and it felt like riding a 125 for some reason. THAT SAID, I hopped on the 1200 custom and the extra grunt and the more elongated riding position was bloody great! I loved it .. but the 7, 000 UK pounds price tag was a sticking point. :Oo
@guyd37 been riding a 2001 for 9 years. Rigid mount motor so vibration was a problem. Got all iso pegs and mustang seat, now can ride all day no problem. Also have progressive suspension in back. You won't find a more reliable bike anywhere. The evo engine is indestructible
I got tired of running out of gas every 70 miles. It's not powerful enough. It doesn't sound like a 96ci regardless of the exhaust. Even honest dealers don't recomend them. Too many people are desapointed and want to upgrade right away. If Harley did a survey, the results would be shocking. A Sportster is a useless Harley. Try a Dyna and you will see what I mean....

As I remember correctly it was filmed in 2007, but it may be an earlier model (I think one can see the choke)

I had a Nightster before the Street Bob I have now. With the stiffer suspension, the 1200cc engine was fine.
