I've gotta say, that's pretty cheap for the bag of rice compared to what I'm paying near Tokyo. A 2.2 KG bag of rice is is about $15US, so half the size and more than half of what you paid. :/
I want to live overseas in Japan and attend a language school, but its been so tough finding work here in America, I want to go bought I dont have the money to go.
What do you do about your hair while your in Japan? I really want to know from a fellow black woman because i'm worried about how i'm going to take care of my hair while i'm in Japan.
i'm actually thinking about going to japan for the summer to study abroad......i'm a freshman in college right now and i think i want to go around my sophomore year in the summer...so from your entire experience, did you enjoy your experiences there?....were people nice?....i can see the food is hella expensive....lol
It would've stayed in the store and I would've starved. Nuh-uhhh! This is where my cheap side shows. $25?!??!?!?! HALF of that bag down here costs around $2! I can get two bags of rice that'll equal the amount of rice there for around $4-$5 here!
Fruit, vegetables and meat is extremely expensive in Japan and hard to come across as well. I found a rockmelon in Japan for about $70 and I can easily get one in Australia for about $5 or less. I found alcohol in Japan to be cheaper than in Australia. Then again, fruit, vegetables, rice and meat is relatively decent in Australia. Japan isn't a big rice exporter. China, Vietnam etc are bigger rice exporters so I'm not surprised rice is expensive in Japan.
i have got to find that sesame dressing in the us. i had it when i was in japan on some curry and i am kicking my self for not bringing home a few bottles.
Fruits are really expensive in japan. I live in brazil... and spend 5 months in Kisarazu(Chiba)...almost didnt eat fruits. XD Beside that stuff i really miss japan XD
i have friends teaching in japan also.. always interesting to see how different life is in comparison to life here in north america. thanks for the videos....nice insight....
Hey! I didn't know that you were still posting videos until tonight!!! I am glad that you are showing more of your daily life and surroundings! I went to a Japanese grocery here in PA and if the rice there cost $25 it would explain why the rice here that is imported was a steal at $35. LOL Hate to admit that I am lucky that there are Chinese stores that carry Japanese products at a cheaper price! Thank you again and keep up the great work!
O.o it looks scary drivng down the road you drove when you left the house I'd be sooo scared lol it looked all dark and desereted like the grudge or something :p wow my mom would have TRIPPED if she saw grapes for THAT much cause she is a grape lover! lol but I just wanna know how you can read all that stuff O.o like I can read Japanese but the Kanji and stuff is like a suicide waiting to happen lol...ooo and do you see any other black people there? cause I PLAN on going there one day :3
@intro2the1 I'm from California as well. I think it can go either way. You can get cheaper food, but some grocery stores, like Raley's, is just as pricey as Japan's markets.
Wait a minute!! 25 Dollars - Girl look I can give you the hook up and UPS you some Uncle Ben's or have somebody fedex something to you - And all that food for 60 dollars - That's Nuts!!! a can of corn whats that a spoon full? And that milk, a bowl of cereal or something... dunk a cookie and the carton gone....
My dear why can't you get your family in America to send you over a barrel filled with goods like 99cents stuff that you can get at a store ,and tell them to bring it over to you in japan. You will be saving a lot . I ask my mother to do that for me when I lived in Jamaica and I saved so much. I told her to send me to barrels 1 with cleaning products sheets beds stuff for the house and the 2nd barrel filled with food like can beans, tuna fish, ect. stuff you can eat later.
2.60 for a bottle water? 4.00 for tuna...25.00 dollars for some damn grapes...is there a fortune note in the grapes...im not cheap but ...damn...no wonder why every one is thin is Japan...they dont even have to go on a diet or anything
Girl where are u shopping??? You don't have a goma-super? Or a jusco??? LOL you are in the country I know. Hope all is well there are you seem like you are doing ok. Take care!
No Fuji supermarket around there? Usually those private owned small grocery stores are much more expensive except vegetables. Some products you bought can be found at 100yen stores.
well over here where i live the prices r about one to two dallers off that. but when I visited IL, I was shocked to see there meat was only 2 dallers to 4 dallers. O.O Here our meat is about 5 or 7 dallers, depending on what u get. and frozen meat like chicken wings r about 4 to 5 dallers DX
No those prices are pretty good actually. Actually there are places in the U.S. that are way more expensive. At least that's what I've heard. Japanese products seem to have a fair price compared to a lot of other countries.
And whats it like driving opposite? How much diff and the same is it from America? Can you get around okay? Can you read street signs? I've contemplated driving when I went over to Japan and I'd just like to know how it was
I know what you mean. I feel for you gurl. When I was there I was living at shop 99. (100yen store) LOL. The quality was pretty good. Besides that I was buying groceries just like you did from the local store. I seen a lot of that expensive stuff and I was just as surprised as you were. There was no way I was gonna but 25$ grapes. HAHAHA. I'm with you on the rice too. My heart left me when I bought my first bag. ROFL
I love that they put the picture of the bottle on the fabric softener sachet. Wow those grapes really expensive...I live in Jamaica & grapes are expensive here but that just blew my mind.
everything was pretty much reasonable except for the chicken, rice and fabric softner. I expected everything else to be the prices that they were. They were excalty how much they would be around where I live. I live in NYC.
more power to you. Every time I visited family in NYC my mouth dropped at the price of some stuff. But Deli sandwiches were delicous, cheap, and the best I have ever had anywhere ^_^. Too many people though so I don't think i'd ever live there.
I think stuff in Japan is only costly relative to where you live and what you do for a living. Couple that with where you do your shopping, it seems to me that everything levels out. If I shopped at Whole Foods everyday I'd think America was expensive. $25 for grapes is crazy though, I'm not gonna lie. o__o
very true. there is only one market in my town. if i drive further inand about an hour to the big Fuji Supermarket, things are cheaper. But the gas and two hour commute are a big pain.
I think the grapes were a special brand or something....maybe they glow in the dark lol 0_o
I can understand fruits being expensive don't they import most of their fruit, but why rice I would expect it to be reasonable in Japan. Plus it's the same as the Deli Mart near me it can be expensive. Is it the only one for miles, I guess they expect you to pay for the convenience.
Didn't realize they drive on the left, it would freak me out to make a right turn. Thanks so much for sharing..
Aren't there local farms nearby that sells products to the locals like road stands..wow.
I believe the rice is so expensive is because i think they were having a shortage of some sort. So there not able to meet the demands of sale so they have to raise the prices thats my guess. Hopes that help.
lol when you were driving in the left lane I was like "OMG you are on the wrong side! You're gonna crash!" But then I remembered... they drive on the opposite side <.< I feel smart.
I found Tokyo to be just as expensive. Japan is a very expensive country to live in - most things are expensive! I still would not change living there when I did with my family :)
These prices don't shock me. I live in London lol (^_^)
Rice is expensive, everything is expensive (unless you find good deals in the market...but you have to travel to get to those + there's no good parking).
What broke my heart the other day was seeing a small bag of cherries on sale for £6.49 from £14.99. Without it being on sale, that's almost about the price of your rice for A SMALL BAG OF CHERRIES \(O_O)/ I'm gonna go cry now....
For college students in America, the cheap food of choice is noodles. If food is so expensive there, what is the cheap food of choice for students in Japan?
hmmmm . cool vid . no veggies in your basket ;-( lol guess its pricey. i buy alot of frozen veggies and fruit in bulk and blend them up for smoothies. its cheap and last along time if you live alone like me....lol i thought i saw a little flower bed outside your apartment. you should try growing some herbs. that is alot for rice, but it makes sense why it pricey i guess . keep up the good work ;-)
like WOOOW for the cost of rice. I know youre doing your grown woman thang but is there any way you can have someone ship "staples" and other basics to you?
1.5kg bag of some nice basmati tilda rice which we usually buy is £5.92 but we usually just buy the 7.5kg one i think I need to switch brands hahahaha
Be careful with the camera while you drive in the rain!!!

for example, bevereges, pocari sweat price is 130~150yen(at sall time).in my tokyo town.260yen is very boondocks price.
but there are no method.
reason is shipping expense.sorry for these price.no method.

For college students in America, the cheap food of choice is noodles. If food is so expensive there, what is the cheap food of choice for students in Japan?

its the same. ramen is still a cheap meal and it a million times better here. Its just where i live the food is expensive

$25 that would kill me, and the cans of food is so small. An elf wouldn't even enjoy that

hmmmm . cool vid . no veggies in your basket ;-( lol guess its pricey. i buy alot of frozen veggies and fruit in bulk and blend them up for smoothies. its cheap and last along time if you live alone like me....lol i thought i saw a little flower bed outside your apartment. you should try growing some herbs. that is alot for rice, but it makes sense why it pricey i guess . keep up the good work ;-)

like WOOOW for the cost of rice. I know youre doing your grown woman thang but is there any way you can have someone ship "staples" and other basics to you?
vierra01 2 years ago
hmmm it depends on what it is and usually if i want it that bad i wont mind shipping charges and just get it online
