This song was the first I saw Lizzy sing at the Queens Hall in Leeds 81... This version is my favourite!! I remember recording this concert to tape from Radio One and wearing it out!!! It turned up on the 12" B side of Cold Sweat which I played to death too!!!
I have never been able to find it on a cd so I can blast my ears once more?? Love this song it's so "Bloody" Powerful.... The Album version is good but not as good as this one???
Thin Lizzy not in the Hall of Fame? What a shame! Never really got into them until recently without a doubt the best rock act from the late 70's early 80's. They set the standard never got the props...
@bulletinman The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke dude. There's so many politics involved. The people who vote the bands in get bribed by record labels and their friends. I kind of like how most of my favorite bands aren't in that shithole. Just read the Sex Pistols letter to the Hall of Fame, they're one of the few bands that can see through their bullshit.
Have to say Renegade is the most underrated album Lizzy made and far superior to Chinatown to Shades Of A Blue Orphenage and also to Nightlive.Tracks like this Holywood,Mexican Blood and the title track are great rock tracks
I wouldn't say Renegade was mediocre, but it's a far cry from "Fighting", "Jailbreak", "JtF" and "Black Rose". I do like it a lot better than Chinatown however. Lyrically the later albums just aren't quite as good as the mid to late 70's material.
That said, I've never heard a bad Lizzy performance. Phil's worst shows were a lot better than many artists' best shows...
"Renegade" was a disappointment when I bought it as a teenager, but it's grown on me since then. I think it is marginally superior to "Chinatown," if only for the better production quality (sheesh, "Chinatown"'s dominant guitar tone, thanks to those lousy Yamaha solid-state amps, was thinner than a bulimic runway model). "Thunder & Lightning" was IMMEASURABLY better, and a good note to end on. But nothing beats the Gorham/Robertson era.
I was at Hammersmith Odeon in 81 and the last thing you would say is it was mediocre.....................fantastic would be more appropriate........did you go? electriceye7 MikeG62 knows.......do you believe ...this to be true................?
Mediocre album? I didn't know that Thin Lizzy ever made a mediocre album. If I had a dollar for every time I've spun "Renegade" I would be rich. I thought every song on it was badass.
Phil was a god amongst men and bass players. Only one man could pronounce "in the sixteenth century-uuh" and get away with it. Hetfield has been trying ever since. Btw, this is the Lizzy gig that the BBC broadcast in 81 as part of the 'In Concert' series?

Nope. Although Deep Purple isn't in and they only came up with one of the most famous guitar riffs ever. Go figure that one out.

If only some expert would remaster Renegade, then it could get the recognition that it deserves.

i think its just different it didnt have the straightaway recognisable lizzy sounds as earlier albums but in its way it is still a masterpiece
afertyus1000 2 years ago
@blacksabfan It says it all: Renegade isn`t that good...compared with the rest of Lizzy`s stuff. Now, if that isn`t a mark of quality, I don`t know.

This tune, Renegade and Mexican Blood I like the best from this album. But over-all I agree a mediocre release for Thin Lizzy.
