My 04 honda crv- caught fire under the engine while driving from oil that was leaking from the fram oil filter gasket. It had to be towed. As a result the main wiring harness was burnt up , the firewalls need replacement, header protector needed removal, and I spent time spraying degreaser for hours to try and clean the mess...I will never ever buy fram products again! Save yourself the service bills and time, I wish I did. Definitely spending the extra dollar for a Wix filter. Screw fram!
@dirkdaddy2 The other ones on the table are discussed in other videos. And I only present what is inside. I believe you are smart enough to draw your own opinions.
Champion Labs makes the following oil filters, Luber Finer, Champ, Mopar, Kleener, Imperial XL, Ecore, STP, TRD, MXM, K&N, Petro Clear, Deutsch, VW, Royal Purple, Mobil and service champ. As you can read there are some top name brands in there.
@Portableshadow - That can be hard to determine just be cutting an oil filter open, as this doesn't tell us the filtration ability or the capacity of the oil filter.
One thing I would say negative about these videos and that is the only 1 thing cuz they are good and basically just state facts. But when he mentions the Drainback valve......he calls it rubber all the time. He doesn't say if it's silicone or rubber.
Wix for example uses a Silicone anti-drain back valve, in the video he says rubber. The rubber valves are not as good and are generally black. Where as the silicone ones tend to be red / reddish orange/ orange.
Denser elements do not mean greater efficiency. You do not need to capture all the particles becasue under a certain size, they do no harm other than block the element and force the filter to go into bypass mode long before it should. Onthinly you have proven is that you can use a ruler.
@HiTechOilCo : i completely agree with you sir, my dad is also manufacturer for oil filters from last 20 years and i am into this business from last 2 years and we supply the complete filter to Purolator.. Believe me same looking filter can function very differently... It took us 10 years to modify our company into finest quality supplier and we are still implementing changes... It not as easy as Adamcc91 thinks...
@adamcc91 - It does seem kind of odd that someone would claim that 3 different oil filters from 3 distinctly different companies that have absolutely no relationship with each other, would all be the same oil filter.
@HiTechOilCo Well believe it or not...oil filters are pretty easy to copy anyone can cut them open and use technology...they all found an area where they can manufacture them with a good quality and sell for a good price...
@adamcc91 - Oil filters can have similar construction, but there can be significant differences in filtration efficiency, change intervals and dirt holding capacity that the naked eye can't discern when merely cutting open an oil filter and comparing the internal construction from brand to brand.
@adamcc91 - 25 years experience in the automotive repair/maintenance industry, along with 25 years in the synthetic oil and filtration industry, along with A.S.E. certifications, etc., etc. No assumptions at all, just facts.
@adamcc91 - I don't change oil for a living, thanks. :) I run multi-million dollar auto centers and have extensive experience in the automotive industry. For anyone to say there is no difference between different brands of oil filters is just plain and simply ignorant.
@Harmonlisa - Congratulations on achieving that mileage. Let's do a cost analysis here. Approximately how many miles does your van go between oil changes and how much money does each oil change cost you, including tax?
@HiTechOilCo : i completely agree with you sir, my dad is also manufacturer for oil filters from last 20 years and i am into this business from last 2 years and we supply the complete filter to Purolator.. Thank you for all your oil filter reviews and taking the time to take them all apart. This really helped me see what the various oil filter products out there look like and helped me make a more informed buying decision. I bought a Wix and it worked great.
Dude its a silicone antidrain back valve. Wix is the ONLY co that uses silicone. The silicone will not get hard or crack like rubber or nitrile. The last thing you dont want to happen on a filter that is mounted other that verticle is for the oil to drain out the anti drain back valve. Also that other part in the front of the filter is the bypass valve. Wix is the only one to put it up front. That way if it goes into bypass the oil wont run over the dirty media !! I am a parts master !!! God!
@n2striper - The cutting edge nano-fiber technology AMSOIL Ea Absolute Efficiency oil filter also has a silicone anti-drainback valve and is backed by up to a 25,000 mile change interval and also features a 98.7% filtering efficiency rating at 15 microns that I haven't seen any other oil filter surpass. More information is available at my channel.
@davshaw5 - The best oil filter is the one that filters the best. The AMSOIL Ea Absolute Efficiency oil filter will filter down to 15 microns at 98.7% efficiency and is guaranteed for up to 25,0000 miles. I've never seen a better oil filter. My channel has much more information for you. Enjoy. :)
@HiTechOilCo- Thanks for the information. I have been like all the other uninformed zombies using Fram filters, most likely because they are so readily available. After seeing the shoddy workmanship, I'll never use them again. I will try to find Amsoil, I don't care if it's not at Wal-Mart, I'll go out of my way to find them, it's worth it to have piece of mind. Thanks again.
@HiTechOilCo price doesn't always have a co-relation with quality. If it has the same quality construction as a Purolator, I'd happily use those filters. Hence why I said I wonder what is inside a Super Tech filter. Fram filters are spendy for the very low quality product you get out of them (honeywell).
The oil filter casing on those oil filters is so thin I can crush bend it with my hand. I wouldn't want it on my car, that's for sure. Engines are too expensive.
@kemorc - "Crush bend", is crush/bend without a backslash. lol :) If you have the strength of a gorilla and crush/bend the thickest metal casing on the market, (the AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Ea oil filter), all I can say is...wow! :)
@HiTechOilCo If you are any knowledgeable dealer, you'd know of the Advance Auto TotalGrip filter. It sold below 2.75 and usually had a bogo offer. There was no filter on the market that could compete with it for what you get for the price. Made by Purolator... barely different than the PureOne that we see today (fewer pleats). Of course, you can't buy that filter anymore, arguably since the PureOne was released.
@kemorc - The engines in todays vehicles cost thousands of dollars to replace. Most people I know and do business with would never use an oil filter that only costs $2.75. We get what we pay for.
@kemorc - Modern engines cost thousands of dollars to replace. The people I do business with and know, would never use an $2.75 oil filter on such expensive engines. Old wise men once said, "We get what we pay for". :)
I'll stick with mobil 1. WIX are great filters, but I use Mobil 1 Oil, and In my opinion it has the best makeup of all of the filters reviewed. I would've liked to see the inside of a Motorcraft Filter.
Mobil 1 is made out of paper. AMSOIL is made out of Synthetics and 98.7 % efficient at 15 microns. Where paper based filters hold no more than 40 % efficient
NAPA Gold AND CarQuest Premium filters are both made by Wix. After seeing these vids i cant belive i paid over double the price for K&N for so many years..... Thanks for the vids!
@lillen300 - The efficiency and micron ratings of the oil filters can be had from the oil filter manufacturer. The cutting edge nanofiber Ea Absolute Efficiency oil filter from AMSOIL is rated at 98.7% efficiency down to 15 microns. I've never seen better. More information is at my channel. Send me a PM. Enjoy! :)
