Wow the ignorant comments on this video. I practice Gracie BJJ we also have a Judo instructor to teach Judo. Instead of bashing each one why not learn both and incorporate each style together to be dangerous anywhere?
look at the history judo is the evelution of jujitsi and jigaro kano did it it 1882. so dont be saying brazillian jujitsi is better it is good dont get me wrong but judo is the best as it was proven in late 1800s in the compititons and being japans number one with written proof so get your facts right.
@jamieheap1 yeah sure bro..all the best gracies like helio and royce got beaten by judoka at ground work. (helio got thrown on the ground 3 second after the match started, in judo's rules, he would have win in 3 second LOL)
@R3dTigerM40A3 I train BJJ and my coach has a black belt in Judo and a Brown in BJJ, i'm a white belt and I can fair very well & submitt Judo blackbelts. He says never to compare Judo with BJJ unless you know nothing about the 2. There 2 different elements to be fighting, so stop acting as if u have knowledge about the 2.
@TheDarceChoke you have no video and you are telling me you could submit a judo black belt while you have a white belt? kinda hard to believe isnt it? stop acting tough on the internet fucking shit head. i was comparing kimura and helio..i said all good bjj got beat by judokas and thats true..not saying it's better tho..just being realist. your a noob. you suck. if you and your coach would be that good, you would know it's all about the fighter you dumbass
im not gonna base all my info on this video and start trashing judo cuz i do BJJ but i think this doesnt give anyone a good lokk at wat judo is becuz all they did is flip each other and got up like yeah i won but why dont the then fight on the ground... like in BJJ with the arm bars and triangles and ect ect im just wondering and in BJJ compititions the dont really let u "slam" but there r some sweeps and takedowns and i also kno BJJ was started by the gracies and BJJ is based off of judo
@skimforlife21 yeah but i'd like to see a bjj fighter use a throw against a experianced judoka. just saying both styles are great even if i trash the bjj on my previous comment but i am just saying judo has more advantage. on the ground, a judoka will have more experiance in holds and how to get out of the holds. not to mention that the locks and chokes are also very effective in judo.
@sandtoof I have been doing Gracie jiujitsu for about 4 years i had a book from the community college about Kano's judo so the web isn't my only source
if only real fights stopped as soon as someone hit the ground......pff maybe change your training to through guys on their heads that would be considerably more effective. Oh wait how do you train that and still have partners the next day. BJJ all the way!
@SandToof lol your ''BJJ'' was based off judo you dumbfuck..and when you throw someone on the ground ofcourse no ref will call a ipon..bu you just go on full mounte.
and bjj..LOL you don't have any throws wich will work effectivly in the street since you pratice them only like 5-10% of the time. rest is only ground work..wich judo is also good at. every BJJ ''legends" was defeated by judokas..even the styles that judo was based off (jujitsu) was defeated by judokas so piss of
Maeda was a judoka from the Kodokan, he never studied Ju-jitsu and, therefore, could never have taught the Gracies "traditional ju-jitsu." You're doing watered-down Judo with silly spic names.
By the way, how are the Gracies and their students doing in the UFC these days? Haha
@BloodofPatriots first the UFC has rules that do not happen in a real fight. I will boot someone in the face I do not care if there knees are touching the ground or not. and no time limit in a real fight so dont bother using the UFC for anything but athletic merit.
@SandToof and you are smoking so much crack if you think the Gracies learned Judo that is what your teacher says to you to get you to pay. Face it if you use Judo I would smoke you cause I promise you will not take me down in a real fight and in a tourney match I would just drop to one knee and snag you up from there so no take down as well. In a real fight you are weak just quit your job go home and kill yourself cause your judo is only going to get you beat down cause you think its so good.
@SandToof Try looking up vids of BJJ vs Judo and see what you get. But we can talk all day why not demo it I am old enough to drive lets met half way. I am 6 foot 160lbs I dont give a fuck how fat you are lets rock
@SandToof oh whats wrong poor kid cant get any arm bars on any one ..o ill just get is foot or leg yeah ill just , shit i missed oh well , ill just stay on my back for 3 hours and maybe he ll just leave me alone yeah that the right stuff hahaha just busting your balls kid dont wig out and put a gun in your mouth .... thinking.... thinking ah fuck it
@judomurphy74500 first you didnt really put that comment together well. All I am going to say is if you dont want to meet half way it figures that would be my luck. but for real I live in Windsor Ontario how bad could it be right. My teacher is even a purple belt. Ya I am blue belt and my teacher is one belt higher than me so how much cant I know. See you could win no prob lets just fight you can even take it likes its training..... just bring a pillow.
its gay because they only do they same 3 flips and if u went againts some one with ground tech and u fell on top of them with that gay ass flip then they choke your ass or arm bar or triangle or leg bar judo is gay cuz it doesnt help u much on the outside cuz who wears those cloths no one but the fighters so u cant grab them by the colar for a flip
If you think you can defend from Judo by not wearing a shirt... go fight a judoka like that and than say- some throws can be done without it, balance you have from judo would make you kick ass against anyone in pure wrestling (if you are not a wrestler yourself) and... oh well joint locks and chokes *ahhhm only the most dangerous stuff* needs no kimono or shirt at all

@brybry19871987 almost all of the popular judo throws can be done easily against a no-gi opponent, I have used many in bjj no-gi tournaments and in mma training.
@buffmedic01 Yea ok dude I'm sure there are techniques that can be done without a Gi but they sure as hell aren't "easy". Not against someone who knows what they are doing even a little bit.
Most of the judokas i have been wrestling to have absolutely no ground technique whatsoever, they end up in complete disaster when going to the ground. They can do good throws and sweeps but when it comes to the game after the throw they mess it up. They practically give me the dominant position with their throws and sweeps.
@lordvivec87 Yes they do ... I'm Judoka , world vice champion and currently I practice MMA besides judo . I have a great ground game but when I throw someone , I end up in the position I want so ...
@lordvivec87 I've heard this a lot lately. Following some changes in the past few years regarding competition rules, lots of teachers place a higher emphasis on throwing techniques, and limit the ground skills they teach to a minimum. I've actually encountered judo instructors who recommend pursuing one of the more common jiu-jitsu styles to learn their ground techniques. I've done some wrestling(high school years only), and I would agree entirely.
it's dangerous to grab the lapel, or sleve in self defense anyway. much better to body lock and grab the arm/wrist. They have kept changing the rules to favor asians and encourage throws so that modern judo has become a very narrow set of skills. Not to mention, many of the thows in judo leave you in a bad position on the ground. If you expand your training, and keep in mind judo's limitations, there is still a lot to learn that does work.
judo is very good yes but ... the limitation is that what if your opponent has no top on, this is why when training judo in mma we don't get taught to use clothes, lats and hips are like guidelines to your opponent wearing clothes, if you can perform judo to a top level WITHOUT using clothes, then normal judo will become very easy for people
@joshpage328 i dont know about that i dont do judo but i use alot of hip throws and i actually have a way harder time getting a throw with the gi on then with just a simple over under but that could just be me
@11Rommel14 If you spend some time watching and/or practicing judo, it makes more sense. Several of the clips here show the same kinds of throws. Watch it again. The landings are all very similar. The person being thrown(uke) is not injured, and is in a position of weakness. The person throwing(tori) is exhibiting proper technique, and is in a position to either break contact or control ground fighting from a dominant position. Tough to see unpredictable or precarious there.
@Gegit05 Half of the throws end up with the two people rolling uncontrollably with the person who got thrown on top. An example of a precarious situation-look at the throw at 00:38-40
@11Rommel14 This is what happens in the Olympics. The throws, when being resisted competently, don't always look as pretty as practice movements. However, it's a safe landing, and while blue doesn't land in an immediately dominant position, he's in a position of strength compared to his opponent, and with that throw, has probably scored a match-winning point anyway. In a self-defense situation, it might result in a bit of a scramble, but the primary emphasis of judo has always been sport.
i do train in ju jitsu but i dont even have a belt in it but i tap out brown belts in judo no problem i guess once you take away the gi judo dose not do so well
see judo is nice and all when you're trying to take down your opponents, the only problem is what can you do when you take them down? thats why i take bjj there both amazing sports. hell any type of martial arts is great.. except wrestling i cant stand that shit
@MyTilted Blatantly incorrect. The original Kodokan judo, founded in the late 1800s by Jigoro Kano, was primarily focused as a competition sport style, and incorporated several joint locks and choke holds from the parent style, Tenjin Shinyoryu jujutsu. Several of the throws, joint locks, and choke holds have been barred from modern competition for safety reasons. War never factored into the creation of judo as a style.
@keenynman34 It's worth noting here that the bulk of Braziliian jiu-jitsu ground techniques were developed from the original 29 grappling techniques from Kodokan judo. Many of these techniques were then barred from judo, a sport style, due to danger to practitioners. They were kept as part of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu style, which originally was founded on self-defense principles.
@MrDavidafriat you dnt run from hits LOL.... muat thai good fo striking... but i a judo guy gets ahold of you, you are screwed... he will throw you on your head. a good throw on concrete wll end a fight.
@NaberiusGaming it was a joke.they use alot of shirt grabing techniques so i was like what if the guys not wearing a shirt?but like i said it was a joke so dont all the judo guys go gettin all teary eyed im sure judo is nice.
@bassilkamali I wasnt tryin to rant at ya or anything sorry if it seemed that way lol, but yeah they do mostly gi throws, when you look at where it came from it makes sense, the samurai wore armor so they were easy to grab lol.
@seanlee74 ok ur obviously not paying attention to the conversation.it was a fuckin joke.and how offten do i see guess shits get ripped in a fight or see them just take there shrt off.......uh often.i live in a fucked up nieghbor hood not tha burbs.
@TMMach yeah i know.i believe all styles are good if the person useing them is.i dont realy like grappling styles to much but i wont call them inafective.
@bassilkamali Since original Kodokan judo was primarily considered a competitive version of jiu-jitsu styles(by Jigoro Kano, the founder of modern judo), this is typically hardly an issue. Since the inception and popularization, several judo instructors have adapted traditional judo techniques for no-gi situations, such as self defense, and, more recently, for MMA competitiion.
@Gegit05 ok u didnt read the whole conversation did u,just like all the other ppl who keep sayin stuff like that.like i said it was just a joke.i have respect for the style.
@bassilkamali I don't think I ever suggested you had no respect for the style. You asked a common, and in my mind, reasonable question, and I offered an answer based on experience. No offense intended.
@bassilkamali Well, we don't worry when there is no shirt. As long as a person has arms and legs, it's all good! If there's no arms or legs, we could throw in a basic o-goshi! (That's hip throw by the way.) I cross train, and I'll tell you: Judo is arguably one of the most effective arts even up to this day!
@TheBamaBassist yeah i do actualy think judo is pretty cool.all my favorite styles are the ones that evolved from feudal japan.only thing i think that gives judo a bit of diadvantage is that theres not much striking but this doesnt make it ineffective.its a good art to learn with other arts that have striking, cross training like u said.
@bassilkamali Umm... Judo with strikes and kickes is somehow not judo but jiu-jitsu... and i think it is really pathetic to say "judo is the best", because there are so many martial arts and every is "best" in his own way...
@syscero yeah did i make a joke or somthing?do u have taretts?dont worry about what im sayin to some one else mind ur busness.yeah i know not every one agrees when it comes 2 martial arts but its no reason 2 b rude or say some one else is wrong cause its not even about the style its about the person using it and if you dont agree with that you know nothing about martial arts and i wont even waste any more time with you cause your probably 15 or something.
@bassilkamali Did I miss something? I thought you are the one asking "what if the guy is not wearing a shirt". This is a very funny question for sure. You americans are so stupid. Just relax, man.
@syscero were stupid lol,ur tha one who didnt even take the time to read the whole conversation before you decided to put 2 cents in you fuckin idiot.now you sound stupid you dumb fuck.it was a joke now stay out ppls buisness you nosy fuckin foriner.god bless usa.get an education,or can you do that where your from?
@bassilkamali Man, u just started this all after a simple "hahaha" of mine. Do not try to evade from your lack of good mood. Yes, I did a mistake, americans are not that stupid, just you.
@Mulberry2000 What you say is true, but i dont think you've ever been thrown like this onto asphalt. You wouldnt get back up. They are doing this on kushy floor mats lol
@kanguesso Not trying to argue this is just my point of view. The point that a throw and your back hitting and the match is over is really weak. I understand if your thrown like that on cement its game. Many people can take a throw like its nothing, suck in jiu jitsu, thrown and still work to really win. (submit) And the fact that they both stand up after a certain amount of time. This is far from reality, get good at judo, quit and start training jiu jitsu.
@shooskidid It's not a flawed sport, your opinion of what a sport is is what's flawed. The goal is to get your opponent on their back like scoring a goal in football. If you want violence then yea there are better sports to watch but appreciate the art involved
@larwhelan Good point, but this isn't a sport its fighting, the underlying goal is to break your opponent til they give up. Not score a point. Never the less its obviously debatable.
@shooskidid It was originally a martial art but it's in the olympics as a sport now it's never really been a violent practice though i think the name even means something along the lines of soft way.
@shooskidid It is a sport. It is A GRAPPLING ART like many others such as wrestling which the goal is to pin your opponent on his back, the Goal is olympic judo is to throw your opponent so that he lands on his/her back. Now is wrestling also a "flawed" sport? don't tell that to many MMA fighters who came from Wrestling and are doing just fine in the sport of MMA. There are many MMA fighters, such as Jon Jones, Jimmy Hattes, & Karo Parisyan who have utilized Judo techniques to perfection.

Most of the judokas i have been wrestling to have absolutely no ground technique whatsoever, they end up in complete disaster when going to the ground. They can do good throws and sweeps but when it comes to the game after the throw they mess it up. They practically give me the dominant position with their throws and sweeps.
lordvivec87 2 weeks ago
@lordvivec87 most of judokas have great ground technique , but when someone trows u hard , they will make a disabled person out of you :D
FuturePoliceOfficer1 2 weeks ago
@FuturePoliceOfficer1 no they wont
lordvivec87 2 weeks ago
@lordvivec87 Yes they do ... I'm Judoka , world vice champion and currently I practice MMA besides judo . I have a great ground game but when I throw someone , I end up in the position I want so ...
FuturePoliceOfficer1 2 weeks ago
@lordvivec87 I've heard this a lot lately. Following some changes in the past few years regarding competition rules, lots of teachers place a higher emphasis on throwing techniques, and limit the ground skills they teach to a minimum. I've actually encountered judo instructors who recommend pursuing one of the more common jiu-jitsu styles to learn their ground techniques. I've done some wrestling(high school years only), and I would agree entirely.

@TMBmain I practice Traditional Russian Sambo, as well as Command Sambo and I tell you...... every throw was either taken or modified from Judo.

@TheBamaBassist
I take Command but.
I love the Judo takedowns but mainly Aggresive moves. Submissions ect. More painful moves then.
TMBmain 2 weeks ago
it's dangerous to grab the lapel, or sleve in self defense anyway. much better to body lock and grab the arm/wrist. They have kept changing the rules to favor asians and encourage throws so that modern judo has become a very narrow set of skills. Not to mention, many of the thows in judo leave you in a bad position on the ground. If you expand your training, and keep in mind judo's limitations, there is still a lot to learn that does work.
IIIDagNastyIII 2 weeks ago
judo is very good yes but ... the limitation is that what if your opponent has no top on, this is why when training judo in mma we don't get taught to use clothes, lats and hips are like guidelines to your opponent wearing clothes, if you can perform judo to a top level WITHOUT using clothes, then normal judo will become very easy for people
joshpage328 2 weeks ago
@joshpage328 i dont know about that i dont do judo but i use alot of hip throws and i actually have a way harder time getting a throw with the gi on then with just a simple over under but that could just be me

What is the point of throwing your opponent in an uncontrolled manner that causes you to end up in an unpredictable and precarious position?
11Rommel14 3 weeks ago
@11Rommel14 If you spend some time watching and/or practicing judo, it makes more sense. Several of the clips here show the same kinds of throws. Watch it again. The landings are all very similar. The person being thrown(uke) is not injured, and is in a position of weakness. The person throwing(tori) is exhibiting proper technique, and is in a position to either break contact or control ground fighting from a dominant position. Tough to see unpredictable or precarious there.
Gegit05 3 weeks ago
@Gegit05 Half of the throws end up with the two people rolling uncontrollably with the person who got thrown on top. An example of a precarious situation-look at the throw at 00:38-40
11Rommel14 3 weeks ago
@11Rommel14 This is what happens in the Olympics. The throws, when being resisted competently, don't always look as pretty as practice movements. However, it's a safe landing, and while blue doesn't land in an immediately dominant position, he's in a position of strength compared to his opponent, and with that throw, has probably scored a match-winning point anyway. In a self-defense situation, it might result in a bit of a scramble, but the primary emphasis of judo has always been sport.

keenynman34 3 weeks ago
@keenynman34 you can do a arm lock but the original judo was for war and u threw to break their necks and such..
MyTilted 3 weeks ago
@MyTilted Blatantly incorrect. The original Kodokan judo, founded in the late 1800s by Jigoro Kano, was primarily focused as a competition sport style, and incorporated several joint locks and choke holds from the parent style, Tenjin Shinyoryu jujutsu. Several of the throws, joint locks, and choke holds have been barred from modern competition for safety reasons. War never factored into the creation of judo as a style.
Gegit05 3 weeks ago
@keenynman34 It's worth noting here that the bulk of Braziliian jiu-jitsu ground techniques were developed from the original 29 grappling techniques from Kodokan judo. Many of these techniques were then barred from judo, a sport style, due to danger to practitioners. They were kept as part of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu style, which originally was founded on self-defense principles.

nachioxz 3 weeks ago
@bassilkamali Since original Kodokan judo was primarily considered a competitive version of jiu-jitsu styles(by Jigoro Kano, the founder of modern judo), this is typically hardly an issue. Since the inception and popularization, several judo instructors have adapted traditional judo techniques for no-gi situations, such as self defense, and, more recently, for MMA competitiion.

swimminsurfer256 2 weeks ago
@bassilkamali Well, we don't worry when there is no shirt. As long as a person has arms and legs, it's all good! If there's no arms or legs, we could throw in a basic o-goshi! (That's hip throw by the way.) I cross train, and I'll tell you: Judo is arguably one of the most effective arts even up to this day!
TheBamaBassist 2 weeks ago
@TheBamaBassist yeah i do actualy think judo is pretty cool.all my favorite styles are the ones that evolved from feudal japan.only thing i think that gives judo a bit of diadvantage is that theres not much striking but this doesnt make it ineffective.its a good art to learn with other arts that have striking, cross training like u said.
bassilkamali 2 weeks ago
@bassilkamali Umm... Judo with strikes and kickes is somehow not judo but jiu-jitsu... and i think it is really pathetic to say "judo is the best", because there are so many martial arts and every is "best" in his own way...

flawed sport
shooskidid 1 month ago
@shooskidid How so?
kanguesso 1 month ago
@kanguesso Not trying to argue this is just my point of view. The point that a throw and your back hitting and the match is over is really weak. I understand if your thrown like that on cement its game. Many people can take a throw like its nothing, suck in jiu jitsu, thrown and still work to really win. (submit) And the fact that they both stand up after a certain amount of time. This is far from reality, get good at judo, quit and start training jiu jitsu.
shooskidid 1 month ago
@shooskidid It's not a flawed sport, your opinion of what a sport is is what's flawed. The goal is to get your opponent on their back like scoring a goal in football. If you want violence then yea there are better sports to watch but appreciate the art involved
larwhelan 1 month ago
@larwhelan Good point, but this isn't a sport its fighting, the underlying goal is to break your opponent til they give up. Not score a point. Never the less its obviously debatable.
shooskidid 1 month ago
@shooskidid It was originally a martial art but it's in the olympics as a sport now it's never really been a violent practice though i think the name even means something along the lines of soft way.
larwhelan 1 month ago
@shooskidid It is a sport. It is A GRAPPLING ART like many others such as wrestling which the goal is to pin your opponent on his back, the Goal is olympic judo is to throw your opponent so that he lands on his/her back. Now is wrestling also a "flawed" sport? don't tell that to many MMA fighters who came from Wrestling and are doing just fine in the sport of MMA. There are many MMA fighters, such as Jon Jones, Jimmy Hattes, & Karo Parisyan who have utilized Judo techniques to perfection.
