Hyundai Hater? I love Hyundai! I had an Elantra GT before BMW. It rocked. All the features at an affordable price. But it was an Elantra and I priced it against a Golf.
Chino, the biggest problem with the Hyundai is its value, not its price. And I predict it will depreciate at a far steeper rate than its engineering benchmarks. If you want to spend $40K+ on a car that loses over half its value in two years, be my guest.
yes, hyundai tends loses value quicker as time passes. however, you might as well take the bus if you want to save value. genesis' competitors are around 15k more expensive than the genesis. even if the value goes down quicker, you start off with more money in your pocket and less money going out for payment.
no one chooses one car over another just because its long-term value stays higher
"Smidgeon under $40,000" Wow. That's too high. The V8 should be about $30K to entice people away from the Chrysler 300 and Buick Lucerne, the cars in this near-luxury segment.
V8 is 35,000. And it's not near luxury. it's a true luxury car.. for the price range, it competes with 300, or g8.. but it actually competes with e class, 5 series.(In terms of features and spec)
If it "actually" competes with Mercedes, it loses on brand equity. If it competes with Buick Lucerne and Chrysler 300, it loses on value as it is priced higher.
hmm.. why it loses on brand equity? Any brand cam make cars beautiful as Genesis.(for instance, Nissan GT R you think Lamborgini would lose their brand equity over this car?) I do'nt see why it loses.. and why it loses on value if 300 dosen't have feature that is found on genesis, eclass or 5 series?
It looses on brand equity because no one reading this or shopping cars would buy the Genesis if, side by side, they were priced the same as a Mercedes. The reason? Because Mercedes is a status symbol and the three-pointed star is part of what you're buying. Thus, there is "equity" in the MB brand that the Hyundai just doesn't possess. And it loses on value against Chrysler 300 and Buick Lucerne because they are the same size and they *do* have the same features for less money.
personally i wouldn't buy 300 bc they are not big as genesis, the design is too old, outside and inside, and hyundai is more reliable. And buick is not that great yet. i've seen their concepts lately but for now buick sucks.
and again... genesis is for ppl who want's premium car, but can't afford it. there. And actually Genesis has more feature than 300. such as it's got downforce technology, and it loweres it's body more than porsche, uv reflect leather and window, SCC(smart cruise control) etc. now i don't see why genesis is a bad car.
Genesis is not a bad car. It is just too expensive for its class. Sonata leads its class in value-- Honda and Toyota lose business to Hyundai in this class because Sonata is every bit, perhaps more, car than Accord and Camry. XG350, the firm's first foray into near luxury segment, does not lead in value. Why? It is more expensive than other entries in the segment. Genesis follows XG350 not Sonata. You'll see. They will not sell many Genesis sedans.
hmmm you are right about sonata. but i don't now, i guess we have to see later on because you said genesis is expensive, well chrysler is over 50,000 when it's full option, and i'm guessing genesis is close as 300, and i can't tell if it's expensive or not.
XG350 was just a testbed and wasnt attractive. Hyundai need somethin impressive. Thats where the Genesis comes in. Hyundai is bettin on it. And I hope they are rite.
Grill was actually designed for the Korean market that has a different logo located at the top of the hood and not on the grill, that's why it does not have the logo. There is another grill that has a logo and they are deciding which grill to use in the US market.

Chino, I agree. Perception is everything. But perception drives resale. Resale drives depreciation. Depreciation drives lease residual values and, therefore, payments. Payments drive sales. Sales drive perception.

I think hyundai should redo their logo/emblem. Looks Cheap and need to change their old image somewhat.

But they are not priced the same. The features on a Genesis would easily cost $10,000 more on a Mercedes.

Unfortunately the Lucerne or 300 don't come close in features or potential.
