  • @FirefighterJohnM That is definitely not a wahoo. That is a Kingfish in the States and a SpaniMack in Aus. Kingfish are not that similar to wahoo. If you have ever seen one in person you would know that they are almost nothing alike. The dorsal on a wahoo is uniform unlike the king which has a dip towards the caudal. That's the first dead give away. Second, their heads are completely different.

  • Spanish mackerel have spots....not stripes.

  • This is not a spanish mackerel, or a king mackerel. This is what we call in the US as a wahoo. The larges spanish mackeral caught is about 10 lbs. Obvious its not going to fight like that. That fish did fight like a king, but it was a king. It was a wahoo. From reading the other comments I guess in Aust. they call this fish a spanish mackerel? Odd but ok. But here in america this is a wahoo. But other wise, nice catch!

  • nice aussie mack i caught a 29" atlantic spanish mack and it was a good catch for a kid

  • to clear things up they call that a spanish mack in aussie but a king mack in the States!!!

  • lol im going spanish macreal trawlein with my dad at sunshine coast

  • To be sure, this is not what we would call "Spanish mackerel" in the Gulf of Mexico. Different species, hence the confusion--and the reason why binomial nomenclature exists.

  • Thats a King Mackeral!!!! Ive caught alot of these off the northeast Florida coast!!! A Spanish Mackeral has spots that are brown and black!!! Not only that, the record Spanish Mackeral is not as big as the fish you put in the boat! Average Kingfish weighs 16 pounds, average Spanish weighs 1 1/2 lbs.

  • thats a king..... spanish mackekrel have a few yellow spots and some green .... go look it up

  • nice catch. to help clear up any confusion: your are correct, that is a spanish mackerel, a "narrow-barred spanish mackerel" to be exact, and is often caught off the coast of australia. it's not an "atlantic spanish mackerel," which generally lives in the gulf of mexico, and is what many are referring to here. spanish mackerel is a common name that can refer to either of those fish.

  • Hardest thing about this fish is making sure if doesn't jump out of the water. I don't know how many times I've lost this fish on piers and bridges from them jumping.

  • lol it took him a long time to fight that small fish.

  • if you go to the skyway fishing pier you catch spanish mackerel all day

  • @ArmedToaster You mean in Tampa? I know there are tons of Spanish there and also a great amount of Mangrove Snapper. The only problem I've had there was getting the fish from the water to the top of the pier. Anna Maria Island also has, or had, a bunch of Spanish Mackerel. That was back in 2008 though.

  • WAHOO!

  • thats a king fish not mackerel they are the same thing, king fish is a bigger form of mackerel.

  • thats a king fish not mackerel they are the same thing, king fish is a bigger form of mackerel.

  • thats a king fish not mackerel they are the same nut king fish is a bigger form of mackerel.

  • that was a spanish, but he needs to learn to turn the clicker off, or it will be messed up on that good penn int. but hooah for using the penn. Thats all i use

  • that is a spanish mackeral over here in australia who ever doesnt know that has not done much fishing

  • IT'S A SPANISH MACKEREL NOT A WAHOO!!!

  • @stessl14 Honestly, it looks more like a Kingfish and not a Spanish. Spanish have a lot of green on their sides and what not.

  • Without a doubt, Spanish Mackeral. Bravo.

  • Speaking from experience and seeing as I have caught both Spanish Mackerel and Wahoo this is most definitely a WAHOO my friends!

  • Oo NICE WAHHOO! DUMBBOS

  • thats a wahoo ditdots

  • cool vid.... yeah, your mackerel are different than ours in the states.... that said they all have a hard tail and are super fast!!!! gota love'em!

.....check out my spanish mackerel video in texas.....

  • Nah mate, it's a Spanish Mackerel....obviously you haven't caught enough of either fish to know the difference.

    Nice story though...cute.

  • That's a Wahoo, not a Spanish Mackerel. Spanish Mackerel have that name because the GOLD spots. Spanish sailors feasted on them when they, with Cortez, were plundering the Carribean. Cortez declared that all things gold would be the property of Spain. Thier habitat is the North Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico. The IGFA classified the world record of that same type little fish you caught as a 184 lb'r by a 15 yr old girl from Texas, USA. And they call them Wahoo..............

  • these are called spanish mackerel in australia. wahoo is a different fish here.

  • I hooked into an American king mackeral.... it was twice the size of this Aussy spanish... They both fight good but theres nothing like a 30lb king taking line faster than you can say shit!

  • Ha ha it took you that long to bring it in i got a 16,25 and 27kg macky on a handle near beagle bay WA australia and i was using halco giant trembler and it took me about 3mins to get each fish in. and the place i went to is not marked on charts but its nic name is macky mountain at the top of the mountain is 16m of water and then it drops down to 87m so try there if any where for makys

  • are you fishing grassy? looks like fish rock in the backround. nice spanish its abit funny that the us guys thinks it a kingfish but its deff a spaniyd.

  • may I know the Size, Color and Brand of that Lure?

    Great Video..

  • great fish!!!...thanks for posting the vid.

  • in Australia... its called Spanish Mackerel...

it is far from being the biggest caught(ever)... but this was the first time i caught something this size.... also that was the only fish caught the day... 13 other people on that trip missed out... so i was pretty stoked.

  • It is an Australian Spanish Mackerel, Scomberomorus commerson

  • thats a wahoo dumb asses

  • thats definitly a spaniard

  • I used to catch Spanish Mackerel in thegulf of mexico not very far into the gulf from Florida i love fishing For them they're always a good fight... if you want to fish for something small that puts up a good fight fish for red snappers

  • It's a baby

  • its a king fish not a spanish

  • Nope. It's a spanish mac because it was caught in Australia. I know you guys in the US call them kingfish but a (yellowtail) kingfish down here in God's country is what you guys call a yellowtail tuna from what I understand. Geography screws it all up for all of us..

  • can u believe all these people think its a spanish mac lol

  • Can you believe it IS a spanish mac. I'm assuming you're from America, right? You don't even have this species of mac (Scomberomorus commerson) in your mainland waters. Your king fish is a whole different species (Scomberomorus cavalla) and we don't have those in Australia.

  • really because spanish mac, have a much different dorsal fin than a king does

  • at least you know wat it is

  • you can tell its not a spanish, it doesnt have the yellow spots, and besides, thats a lot bigger than the average spanish.

  • You sir, don't know what you are talking about. It definitely is a spanish mackerel. Spanish Mackerel are often caught between caught between 20 and 30kg in Australia.

It was caught in Australia. Thus making it a spanish Mackerel.

  • Spanish mackerel- scomberomorus maculatus. world record, 13 lbs. However if you are refering to another species of fish completely, and this is a regional name misunderstanding, then I apologize.

  • yeah its a spanish mac i live in aus( i would know)

  • If it was caught in Australia which it sounds like it was

then its a spanish mackeral otherwise known as a narrow barred or blue mackeral in aus

we catch plenty in the 20-40lbs range plus plenty smaller and a few bigger not sure what the world all tackle record is but seen plenty of pics of 90-100lbs plus fish

  • that is a king mackerel not spanish +1

  • andyfinn your kinda wrong spanish mackerel can grow EXTREMLY bigger then king mackerels but it is rare.Just google World Record Spanish Mackerel.

  • King Mackerel get WAY bigger than Spanish. I have no idea what you are talking about. Some people use Spanish as BAIT for Kings. The biggest Spanish was 13 lbs. Biggest king was 93...

  • correct. it is a king mackerel. spanish have a yellow stripe down the side

  • thats a king you dumbasses. not a spanish

  • Fucken oath its a spanish mackerel aka narrow barred mackerel. Doesn't look like anything else but. Maybe you yanks call them something else?? Nice fish
