  • Dunno why I haven't commented on this video before but this video helped years ago when learning how to adjust the tension on my bike. Years later and I'm still doing it just this way and can get it done in a matter of minutes. Thank you.

  • how did you change the gear, without touching the lever???

  • Good video

  • @sloppify make your sprockets level with each other by using s strap to keep the shock compressed in the air

  • wow awesome man....i just got a 600rr and i had no idea there is so much maintenance....

  • Thaks for helping me out!!!!

  • Great Vid. Will come in handy on my SP2. What is that on your Gear selector? Looks like a Damper of some kind??

  • This is an excellent video, thank you for posting it.

  • Great vid. Thanks.

  • Awesome video.

  • Great video !

    5 stars

  • Thumb up! one of the best video!

  • Mate that's a great video..:) I was actually looking for some information regarding the last part you did, the test on the stand. When you do this test is there slight wheel wobble? Ive aligned the markers correctly on both sides so I don't know. Its only a very slight wobble. Can you check and get back to me..Thanks Mate...:) Great Great Vid.

  • yea but the angle that the bikes sets is diff so the rear spring will be slightly less compressed but should make a huge difference

  • I safely say from exp, there is no difference. For my street bike, or for my 200+ hp superbike ive adjusted the rear without the front stand, and never had a runout or problem with mis-tension.

  • todddhel - You are correct, but the bike is on a rear stand, thus the same as being on the ground. It has all its force on the swingarm , like the tyre when its on the ground. IE you have static sag.

The pin punch, was about 10mm. You can use the side of a ring spanner or a dead AA battery, anything that will bind the chain up.

Evil, Cant find it, soon as i do ill post it.

  • @speedmotorsport

I have a center stand on my bike and I adjust the chain to where I want it, but once I put the rear tire back on the ground, the chain is super tight. What am I doing wrong?

  • Ah! It's buggin me like crazy. What song is used for the intro? I can't remember the name.

  • when you check your chain shouldn't the rear wheel be on the ground? I thought the up and down movement of the swingarm causes tension on the chain so having the rear wheel on the ground when you measure your free play would be proper right? I've never changed a chain or adjusted one I will be shortly however and could you an anwser to that question. thanks.

  • What size pin punch are you using? I need to get one for my bike which has a 42T rear sprocket.

  • great video, you could have no knowledge at all about bike and tighten a chain. and who cares if its a sport bike. its 2 wheels

  • You are nuts! The RC 51 IS A GREAT BIKE

  • this is a really helpful video. thanks for posting it up

  • How do you change gear without touching the lever?! O.o!

  • Very helpful vid, thanks :)

  • Do I have to raise the bike up on a stand? or can i use my side-stand?

  • how bout not speaking so fast and speaking more clearly and loudly so i can understand you?

  • Best chain adjusting video so far. Just did up my chain and spun it through while feeling with my hand and there's sections where there is lots of slack and others really tight. This mean the chain has worn unevenly, anything I can do?

  • Sadly not much. Your chain has what is known as frozen links, and they will get worse.

You can try and clean the chain with kerosine, throughly hose it down with water and then re-apply your favourite chain lube .. that cleans out and around the o-rings, but sometimes its not much gain.

    Thanks for the reply !

  • Thanks for the comments. Ill be doing some more soon, just wont have a shitty mic and will not have to keep such a monotone.

  • Hahaa, its kept like new always. Its 09 and i can still smell that honda smell at times when she is warm.

  • Most professional chain adjustment video I've seen yet on YouTube! Thank you from a veteran motorcyclist, but a new chain driven motorcycle owner!

  • thank you much for the info!

  • that chain still looks too loose

  • very handy video, thanks a lot :]

  • very well done video...Im sure it will prove to be a valuable recorce when I attempt to adjust my chain

  • When you place the punch in the driveline and rotate so the whole driveline binds up, it pulls the rear wheel forward into the adjusters.

  • can someone please explain what exactly is the punch used for, ididnt quite understand.
