Dunno why I haven't commented on this video before but this video helped years ago when learning how to adjust the tension on my bike. Years later and I'm still doing it just this way and can get it done in a matter of minutes. Thank you.
Mate that's a great video..:) I was actually looking for some information regarding the last part you did, the test on the stand. When you do this test is there slight wheel wobble? Ive aligned the markers correctly on both sides so I don't know. Its only a very slight wobble. Can you check and get back to me..Thanks Mate...:) Great Great Vid.
I safely say from exp, there is no difference. For my street bike, or for my 200+ hp superbike ive adjusted the rear without the front stand, and never had a runout or problem with mis-tension.
todddhel - You are correct, but the bike is on a rear stand, thus the same as being on the ground. It has all its force on the swingarm , like the tyre when its on the ground. IE you have static sag.
The pin punch, was about 10mm. You can use the side of a ring spanner or a dead AA battery, anything that will bind the chain up.
I have a center stand on my bike and I adjust the chain to where I want it, but once I put the rear tire back on the ground, the chain is super tight. What am I doing wrong?
when you check your chain shouldn't the rear wheel be on the ground? I thought the up and down movement of the swingarm causes tension on the chain so having the rear wheel on the ground when you measure your free play would be proper right? I've never changed a chain or adjusted one I will be shortly however and could you an anwser to that question. thanks.
Best chain adjusting video so far. Just did up my chain and spun it through while feeling with my hand and there's sections where there is lots of slack and others really tight. This mean the chain has worn unevenly, anything I can do?
Sadly not much. Your chain has what is known as frozen links, and they will get worse.
You can try and clean the chain with kerosine, throughly hose it down with water and then re-apply your favourite chain lube .. that cleans out and around the o-rings, but sometimes its not much gain.

yea but the angle that the bikes sets is diff so the rear spring will be slightly less compressed but should make a huge difference

What size pin punch are you using? I need to get one for my bike which has a 42T rear sprocket.

When you place the punch in the driveline and rotate so the whole driveline binds up, it pulls the rear wheel forward into the adjusters.
speedmotorsport 4 years ago
can someone please explain what exactly is the punch used for, ididnt quite understand.
