If you want to make the tax system simpler and more equitable, eliminate all deductions, eliminate the silly distinctions between types of income and tax individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates at a single flat rate on gross income.
Why should labor be taxed more heavily than capital?
Typical liberal. Just because you say the tax system is regressive doesnt make it so. With no explanation as to how it is regressive it means nothing. I can direct you Federal Tax tables to back my position. You have nothing except name calling. Thats Ok I think its funny. It shows how mad you are. Ha! A flat tax by the way lowers tax for everybody presently pay tax and ask those soaking the US to pay thier fair share. Of course truly needy get exemptions. Not High school students and retired.
Do you even check to see if what you are saying is true? Top rate under Clinton 39.6% Bush 35% Next bracket: Clinto 36% Bush 33% Next: Clinton 31% Bush 28%. "The Bush tax cut was 6% for all income levels" You are either lying or woefully misinformed on the most basic of facts. And no, in reality Bill Gates pays more in taxes every year than you will earn in a lifetime. According to your ideology you received the same cut. Though you'd be wrong there too because the rates are different.
@PossessDismiss Apparently you werent around for the cut were you. Or I know you were sitting in front of your radio waiting for Rachel Maddow on Air America. Bushs Tax cuts were a combination of three Tax relief programs Job Growth,Workers Assistance and Economic Growth. Combined the sum of three programs was 8.10%. So your right it wasnt 6%. However my point is adjusting taxes accomplishs little in the short run and is detremental long term. Lower taxes are better than high
@mmac382 That's a bullshit answer and you know it; well maybe, you do seem to be pretty damn oblivious. Income tax cuts (the renewal or expiration of which is what is being discussed) were not 6% across the board.
@PossessDismiss Fact is Fact. I know Rachel didnt tell you, but its true. However as far as Campaigne Finance reform is concerned, it was unconstitutional. The fact is it would have limited American Corps from donations. Its funny how the Reps are willing to strike down legislation that helps the Dems the most in the name of Freedom. Try again. When its Reps giving facts is labeled partisan. When its Dems giving fantasy its the Truth and Fair.
@mmac382 "fact is fact" what are you referring to? Your lie about tax rates or your lie about me not providing an example of legislation uniformly voted against and filibustered by the republicans in the senate? It's both hilarious and sad how badly suckered the conservative public has been. Massive, undisclosed donations from corporations to representatives of the public is somehow a constitutional right to you people now. You are incapable of recognizing blatant obstructionism/filibuster abuse
@mmac382 And please, don't try to say I'm a puppet of liberal commentators. Fox has an army of zombie-like, mainly elderly, republican followers who accept every word they say as if it came straight from God's mouth. I'm getting the impression you are a rank and file in this army from the nature of your arguments here and your uncanny willingness to distort absolutely anything so that the republicans come out as freedom fighters and the dems as tyrants in your mind.
@PossessDismiss So why is it you feel that the Government owns us and therefore our money belongs to them? You think beause one is wealthy they need to give more in taxes than every other American. I see you seek equality as long as it fills you pockets with money. You know you too can become successful and then you will look around at those whom are allowed to soak our country financially via entitlement programs it will become clear how harmfull liberal policies have become.
@mmac382 I don't feel the government does or should own us, but thanks for putting words in my mouth. I also don't want rich people's money in my pocket, I want the percentage taxed from income, and it should be a progressive rate, to go to research, education, caring for the sick, and infrastructure. You know, things that only a conservative could find a way to hate. You can take a look around right now and see what corporate "America" has done to our political system and manufacturing base.
@PossessDismiss You of course have been well endoctrinated. You've been convinced that highly succesful people should be treated differently that every other American with no valid reason as to why? They are no less American than you or I. The progressive tax system is perfect example of discrimination based on success. Those successful people employe Americans and provide the vast majority of tax revenue already. Dems have alwasy been the party hate History proves it over and over. Your a fool
@mmac382 Those successful people don't pay out of pocket to employ Americans, their personal income tax rate doesn't affect their ability to create jobs. That isn't even to mention the amount of jobs being shipped overseas by those same successful individuals where they can have work done for them for pennies a day without any form of regulation, something no tax cut will ever be able to counter. It's a pathetic notion that people who are making millions and are better off than anyone else...
@mmac382 in the world are being discriminated against, to call them oppressed is laughable. You're a drone for multi-national corporations, encouraged by Fox news and "grass roots" movements fueled and controlled by billionares, tricked into thinking you somehow constitute more than a pawn in their international financial game. A progressive tax rate is a just tax rate, I think this conversation is over.
The problem is, the IRS tax code is regressive, not progressive. The very wealthy pay less of a percentage of their income in taxes than does the middle class. That is what counts, not the bogus propaganda parrot claim that the wealthy pay the majority of tax revenue.
This is clearly discrimination against the middle class.
Besides, it has been proven that one dollar in tax cuts for the wealthy gets back less than fifty cents on the dollar, vs. education at almost 2 dollars return.
@RawFoodKevin Where did hear that crap! And what tax cuts are you refering too! Do you pay taxes? If you are in the bottom 50% of wage earners you pay NO tax! So how does what you've said even make sense. The problem is the tax system is in fact progressive and at the same time allows the bottom 50% of wage earners pay no tax. Our tax (If we have to have one) should be flat, equal and there should be no exemptions. Everyone pays.
@mmac382 It makes sense to people with brains. So sorry to hear about your mentally challenged condition, where you cannot comprehend the difference between tax rate percentage and tax dollars paid. As I previously stated the regressive tax rate is between the wealthy and the middle class, not between the wealthy and the poor. A flat tax is for people with flat heads. With lower taxes the wealthy now have most of the $. Please explain how the hell that is fair for the middle class and the poor
@mmac382 Please stop lying. Tax cuts weren't just 6%, they also cut taxes on capital gains, which mostly benefits the wealthy. Also, lower tax rates are better for the poor and middle class. But they only add to the deficit when given to the wealthy.
Allen West's military background has distorted his view of how the majority of Americans live. He's incapable of a serious debate due to his basic ignorance of the facts and failure to grasp reality. His quote at his town hall on Tuesday regarding Medicare is essential Allen West, "I'll take my hands off Medicare, when there is no more Medicare, and then I'll come and see you sir!" West doesn't serve his constituents, he threatens them.
I think someone is missing the point of this video. We the People are being silenced with Police to make sure that no one is allowed to speak if they disagree!
Well lets see. If you tax EVERYONE that makes $100k a year 100% of thier income you bring in $1.58 tril in Revenue. Our deficit in both of the last 2 years has increased to $1.6 Tril and $1.4 Tril. Up from $700bil in 2008 and $238bil in 2007. How do we NOT have a spending problem? Who else can you tax? How about the lower 50% of wage earners that pay NO tax? Of course it still wont cover Obamas spending. This guys an idiot.
I'm not racist but Obama is totally being controlled by the good ol boy system. What makes you think WEST will be any differnt??...Just another talking suit in sheep skin.
How dreadful that there should be security guards to stop people disrupting the meeting. All the people there should be allowed to talk simultaneously so that no-one can make out anything anyone is saying.

@mmac382 you're an idiot. Instead of supplying the RICHEST corporations with a $1.6 trillion tax subsidy (corporate welfare), the same people who have raised out gas prices over $1 a gallon in the last year and who have made record profits this year, as well as paid nothing in taxes, You would rather cut medicare and take away help of any kind help to the many Americans who are unemployed? How does it feel to have no soul?
@EducatedRantz Of course your wrong about the subsidies. Here's a link that will explain it to you. Even though you wont listen. Like many you think profit is measured in dollors and thats the way our present administration wants you to think. They prefer an ignorant public and your following like sheeple. Medicare is our biggest liabilty and 50% of it is fraud. Its the Democrats that want to cut it for Obama care. Dont you even try to stay informed?
@mmac382 Did anyone say increasing taxes was the only thing that had to be done? I've heard your point made by countless republicans and it is so silly and obviously missing the point. Excuse the truly horrible analogy but it's like saying "Eating vegetables and nothing else will not make me healthy so I probably shouldn't eat them at all."
We need to raise taxes, cut spending, and get the hell out of the wars that have drained trillions from our economy. Why is that so hard to get?
@PossessDismiss Actually the Republicans are the only ones promoting cutting spending. The Dems only use spending cuts to cry about the war. Thats fine. Its Obama keeping us there now so go talk to him. As far as cost the wars are barely a drop in the bucket in cost compared to entitlements. You can get out of the MidEast but it still wont help our economy. In fact it might hurt a little. After all it would be another 100k people looking for work. Messing with taxes at all wont help.
@mmac382 Is that why Obama's budget proposal has three times as much spending cuts as tax increases? Republicans are the ones preventing ANYTHING from getting done with the dogmatic and childish positions they've taken up these past few years . It is scary how similar the language of republican's is, you even use the same metaphors. But no, a couple trillion dollars isn't a drop in the bucket. Letting the Bush tax cuts expire will add 4 trillion in revenue over 10 years, that'll help.
@PossessDismiss The Reps have controlled nothing since 2007. It was virtually impossible to get in the way of any legislation until last Jan. I cant believe you've fallen for that gibberish. As far as the tax cuts are concerned there are twice the tax increases as there are cuts. Do the math! $4tril over 10 years comes out to $400Bil a year. Thats absolutely no help when your over by $1.5 TRIL every year. What do you do with the left over $1.2Tril deficit.a year. Where is your common sense?
@mmac382 The Reps have filibustered record ammounts of legislation since 2008 and have undividedly voted against all said legislation, I can't believe you'd be so willingly blind to how all of this has gone down. 400 billion covered out of 1.5 trillion is "absolutely no help"? That's over 1/4th! I would remind you again that no one is saying letting the Bush tax cuts expire fixes everything. U.S. military spending accounts for 43% of the entire world's milt. spending; is that really necessary?
@PossessDismiss The Reps stopped nothing. I they could Obama care would not exist. Your $400bil in crease in revenue still means $1.2 TRILLION in deficit spending. Can you not even for a moment crack open one eye and see the insanity of that kind of ignorance? Oh by the way the $400 bil is based on the entire tax cut that we ALL received. If your going to only tax the top earners the figure is much lower. Stop defending the indefensible solely on your Ideals. Wake up!
@mmac382 Are you really going to make me tell you this for the third time? not a SINGLE person has EVER said letting the Bush tax cuts expire would single handedly solve the deficit. It would however cover OVER 1/4th of our annual budget. I capitalized the important parts not because I'm sitting here yelling but because you seem to have missed them the first two times. Please think before repeating the same garbage again,. A 5th grader could find the glaring hole in your logic.
@mmac382 Again, the reps have used the filibuster on a record amount of important and silly legislation alike these past few years. Prominent reps. like Mcconnell have come out and plainly said that they aren't voting/filibustering based on the merit of a bill but if Obama supports it or not. They are like children. But I guess in your eyes uniformly voting against and then filibustering anything proposed by a dem. doesn't count as stopping it. It was the couple of blue dog's idea obviously.
@mmac382 Perhaps the most important legislation unanimously voted against and then filibustered and then killed by Republicans was the campaign-finance reform bill, but they are responsible for well over 300 bills that passed through the house stalling in the senate.
@PossessDismiss As expected you dont know of any legislation the Republicans blocked. They had no power to block. They could filibuster only until the super majority (Dems) forced a procedural vote to go ahead with the legislation process. However they always LIED and said the Reps were blocking things, the truth was just the opposite. Do you guys even comprehend the extent to which this administration lies? I bet cant tell me ONE truth in the last 2 years from these people.
@mmac382 Uh, you asked for an example and I gave you one. You sure act like an arrogant dick for someone who seems to miss what's said right in front of them on a consistent basis. The reps have voted uniformly against and filibustered insane amounts of legislation these past two years, you are honestly going to say the handful of blue dogs who helped them to hold up the process are at fault for all of it? You're blindly partisan, it's painfully apparent.
@mmac382 The % increase you'd see if the Bush tax cuts were allowed to expire (as they were meant to) depends on which bracket you fall under. The average American would see around an extra 200$ a year go to taxes, that amounts to less than a dollar a day. If 75 cents is going to make or break you financially then go walk around your town for 10 minutes a day, I gurantee you will find three quarters on the ground to supplement your losses.
@PossessDismiss Your wrong of course. The Bush tax cut was 6% for all income levels. In reality I recieved the same cut as Bill Gates. You cant exspress percentages in dollors. There in lies yours and many other Obama followers problem. You dont understand economics and Obama loves it when you consume his kinds of lies. Tell me why you hate rich people. What have they done to be taxed more than you as though they are evil and have to pay restitution for being successful?
Number 2 and Number 6 were the same person but thanx for wasting your time. So there is security there like there are and should be at all townhalls... What's your point?
'We don't have a revenue problem', says West. Really? When most folks 'sit down at the kitchen table', the first thing said is 'How will we pay for - the rent, the mortage, the income taxes, the homeowner insurance, the food bill, the medical bills?' No-one says, ' How will we reduce spending?' Most of these bills are being increased by the likes of Allen West. 'Disingenuous", indeed! West get his votes with fear-mongering, war-mongering, and the hope that his opposition won't vote.
This joker at the end has no idea of how inaccurate he is. It's sad, really...

'We don't have a revenue problem', says West. Really? When most folks 'sit down at the kitchen table', the first thing said is 'How will we pay for - the rent, the mortage, the income taxes, the homeowner insurance, the food bill, the medical bills?' No-one says, ' How will we reduce spending?' Most of these bills are being increased by the likes of Allen West. 'Disingenuous", indeed! West get his votes with fear-mongering, war-mongering, and the hope that his opposition won't vote.
