@GangstaGTV This is one of the new Mellotrons being produced currently by the Streetly Electronics Co with almost the exact same components as were used during the original production run. So no,it's not digital, this still uses magnetic tape. I forget what the web site is for them but I'm pretty sure they're made on a custom order basis. I'll put it this way, they're so expensive they don't even tell you how much they are on the web-site.

@RothHandle The Mellotron was the first "sampler" - it plays recordings of other instruments. It has it's own unique sound due to the magnetic replay heads adding their own characteristics to the sound. It also adds all sorts or whirring and clunking noises which most people can live without! The 4000D has all the sounds most sane people would want and which the audience hears - QED
@LosEndos55 But will never have the warmth beauty and character of the original fully analogue ones although I do understand the 7 second key hold was a pain especially with strings and voice, once properly setup, serviced and using the correct recording technique the failings you mention were minimal compared to the raw power of the brute, truly a classic analogue monster!!

Just received mine and it send tingles down the spine in the same way as the original. Keyboard is authentic, sounds are authentic without all the unnecessary mechanical gear that invarably goes wrong. Brilliant.
@LosEndos55 What invariably goes wrong with real Mellotrons? The keyboard may need a minor adjustment or the heads may need to be cleaned? Fact is, a real Mellotron requires less maintenance than a guitar. That being said, I wouldn't mind having one of these to supplement my M400, but it can never match the real deal.
@wildmanatm So what? It's the sound that counts. I have sampled all 8 seconds of every note off the Mellotron to my inexpensive Korg TR and I challenge anyone to tell me they can tell the difference! In addition, I sampled in stereo. M4000 is only mono.

I use all software synths triggered from a DX7 (my favourite key action) , and certainly all the digital sounds are as good as the original in quality and editablity, if the analog is a bit grindy and thin. But as a player hardware is a lot more fun, and sitting at a different physical keyboard does seem to change the way I approach the instrument, which I don't get from loading samples. Here, the functionality may be obtained from far cheaper kit, but it's the "vibe"
Ich habe das Gerät letztes Jahr auf der Musikmesse angespielt. Nebendran stand ein echtes Mellotron. Tastatur, aber auch die Sounds wirkten komplett identisch. Nur hat man hier eben kein Bandsalat und alles schön Digital. :)
Warum holt man sich anstatt eines Mellotron kein Stagepiano. Für den Preis sind die Töne dort meiner Meinung nach gleich. Man hat aber 88 Tasten und naja wer es möchte auch mehr Funktionen.
Naja ich kapier wahrscheinlich einfach nicht wo man das besser einsetzen kann als ein Stagepiano..
hör dir mal opeth, porcupine tree oder die beatles an.... der mellotron sound ist schon eine sache für sich, ein stagepiano macht ja eher einen neuen modernen sound, der sich realistisch anhören soll.

Nein, nicht Blues! xD "Moody Blues" ist eine Rockband, die das Mellotron in ihren Alben eingesetzt hat und auch heute noch Live mit einem Digitalen Nachbau. dem Memotron auftreten. Das Mellotron ist sehr beliebt im Progressive Rock. Man benutzt es eigentlich nur für die Chöre, Streicher und Bläser. Die Piano und Gitarren Sounds die im Video gezeigt wurden, sind total unnötig.
@CrownsTT Vergleich es mit Gitarren: Anstatt einer echten Akustik-Gitarre könnte man einfach nen Piezo-Tonabnehmer inner E-Klampfe verwenden, ist aber nicht das selbe. Wenn man nen bestimmten (authentischen) sound sucht, oder einfach nur schnell die "Hardware" wechselt, ist das schon ganz praktisch...
