  • Ugh I so need to follow that advice! Thanks for the great message Jeff!

  • Jeff, Very nice video. You are a role model for teens and pre-teens and this was a great message and insight for them, well done.

  • did you say "there are MORE important things than knives and guns"???

  • I got around $380 for Christmas. I spent $200 on a new BOB with new stuff. I then spent $130 on new boots and multicam BDU

  • Buy what you can afford, appreciate it to its fullest and enjoy what you have.

  • the best type of hobby is one that you love to do and you can make money! I am a blacksmith, gun collector, hunter, and all around outdoors man. The best part is blacksmithing more than pays for itself from what i sell!

  • I'm 15 but i spent all of my cash. )= I wish i could save because college...money is tight in my family so I'm going to start saving when I get my first job. Put aside some money for spending once a month and stuff. fingers crossed I follow through with that.

  • I like racing quads (ATV) and collecting knifes but it expensive :'(

  • i would be happy with a $60 knife LOL

  • I LOVE PAINTBALL AND KNIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad paintball is one of the most expensive sports :(

  • " a young teen. ya know, anywhere from 13 to 18"

    jeff. that's ALL teens lol

  • @BelairUSN What about 19? derp.

  • @SoCalAirs0ft OMG you're so right. i need to find my gun so i can end my miserable existence.

  • @BelairUSN whatever. anon.

  • @SoCalAirs0ft aight /b/ro

  • @BelairUSN Go figure.

  • This was good thanks!

  • Jeff i really want to thank you for this video because ive been through the same thing. i worked all summer and then spent almost all my money on knives and other cool stuff, now that im 18 i need to pay for college so hearing this from you is a good reality check for me. thanks

  • you are better then the best fatherfigure, I appriciate everything you do, please please please

keepup the very very good work. I learnd a lot from you Jeff.

  • Things have been a bit tight for us, especially over Cristmas and my wife is having to sell a kidney to help pay for the grocery's!! If things get really bad I may have to cancel my cable subscription and my Playboy subscription!

  • Send this video to Tom Cruise and Katie's baby.

  • this video is gold. very down to earth and informative. +1 jeff.

  • So you're saying selling my kidney on craigslist to get the new BM62 was a bad idea?

  • im 16 my parents dont fund me unless its for something they know im actually doing like food and cloths mabye movies. i save some money so i can blow it all on weed and beer on the weekends

  • Fantastic Jeff my parents are in a tight pinch and I can't get allowance or a job I'm 15 what are your recommendations?

  • @Russell9111 go door to door and offer to mow peoples lawns for $10 each. That's what i did way back in the day...used to fund all my super nintendo games lol

  • heyy jedd i am 14 and i save like 70%%% of my money....i do spend occasionally on hobbies and stuff but i think with the little extra money in the bank it will help me in the future

  • It's shocking how many people actually need this advice. Not spending money on wants before needs is hardly quantum physics, yet so many people still put themselves heavily in debt and say they don't understand it while they walk around with their iPad, new handbag, new shoes, go out twice a week, smoke...

People have entitlement issues. It's like people who get upset about the illegality of pirating.. they think they "deserve" to watch the product of other people's hard work for free.

  • I have been working since I was like 10..started saving for my first car..I didn't blow it on much...as a kid it killed me...but when I turned 15 and bought a 3 yr old Trans Am...I was thankful I did...great message brother!!

  • What I do is try and substitute my urge for something new with what I already have. For example, if I want a benchmade but all I have now is a spyderco, I cherish it, sort of substitute the urge. The only tip I give to people about saving money that you didn't mention is to wait a week, or a month. Surprisingly enough, majority of urges go away.

  • i'm 16 and i have money from saveings, i save money for my first car and "for stuff that I either REALLY want or need".

  • If you take 2 people each buying a $1200 tv. One person saves for 3 months to buy it. Another buys it right on the spot with a credit card.

The first guy buys it after 3 months and owns it.

The second guy is paying interest on top of a monthly bill.

If they both were to lose their jobs which one would be better off. The person who owns the tv and has nothing left to pay on it. Or the second person who wont be able to afford their credit card payment which will also result in extra fees.

  • Looking back I wish I would have invested all the money that I spent on cheap Chinese shit.

One thing most people don't do anymore is SAVE, they use credit. If you actually save money and plan out expenses even working a part time job can get you by with saving a good portion of cash each month.

  • Jeff, maybe one of your videos can be about investing. If you manage to save a few thousand dollars there might be an investment that will return a steady 3 to 5 percent. You will get that earning every single month. It is like getting a free knife every year. For example, if you have a 5,000.00 investment getting 4%, you would earn $200.00 for doing absolutely nothing. The misconception about investing is that only the rich invest. That is far from the truth.

  • What I would do is, live at home until you are at least 35. Looking back, what is the point of a single person paying for an entire house when you are only there to sleep? You will be at work all day. If you find the right person and fall in love and marry, then get your own place. If you're single, live at home as long as you can, you will save so much money. And don't irritate your parents, or this plan won't work.

  • My goal is to go to west point go army beat navy!

  • Yeah Jeff I agree with you, I am only 13 and I work with my dad and do other jobs to earn money, in one month I may spend like 5dollars in a year maybe like 60-70 dollars depending if I need new cleats

  • like this comment if you think jeff can make money on youtube by vlogging

  • Your a wise man Jeff, keep these videos up! You make more of an impact than you can ever realize.

  • I think jeff wanted to say he was "nigger rich" when he was little

  • Im a teenager and any money I get i put some away for a rainy day. And I buy stuff that I will use and that will last me a long time. I dont piss it all away on expensive clothes, shoes, cell phones etc. Thanks for the video Jeff. Take Care

  • @MrUnworthyOne oo my insurance covers the tab for me to stay up 24 hours!

  • @MrUnworthyOne Anybody can get killed with a firearm, but I think im less likely too seeing as I own my own firearms, I live for the adrenaline aswell though so try me.

  • great video jeff i'm young and when i get money my pay check is about 150 dollars every week so i spend about 50-80 dollars of that then i put the rest in my bank account. because i set up a trust account for myself i know that i can input money but until i'm 18 i can't spend any of that money. i think this is sort of smart.

  • I have a question to anyone that knows. I have a Fenix e21 ans it does not always turn on when click the tailcap on the first time. The tailcap is tightly screwed on so that's not it. Does anyone know what's up with it?

  • I save:)

  • I save my money when I REALLY want something. For instance, right now, I'm saving for a Spyderco Paramilitary 2!!!!!

  • my best thing i do is i keep my hobbies but i put money aside for them like right now i have 2000 for bills housing and food and things then on top of that i have a monthly gas budget of 50$ and now im saving up for a tattoo so far i have 150$ saved but thats out of a savings account i have for my hobbies witch i put in about 20$ a month or what ever i have left over

  • This is a very good video Jeff. Young people don't know what it takes to live and pay bills every month.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • I'm a 17 year old junior in highschool, and I take a personal finance class. Which was created by Dave Ramsey. If anyone is having financial problems I couldn't stress enough how dave can save you from debt or budgeting issues. Check him out, he's an awesome dude, and he has saved TONS from financial issues.

  • @Laxer1313 +1 for Dave. Great plan. glad to see you're starting early. you'll probably be very wealthy some day.

  • I save my money!

  • I am 13 half and spend my money on knives

  • Lol,my money lasts maybe 30 minutes from when i get it xD

  • I'm 14 and "blow" my money on knives and guns stuff :)

  • My expensive hobby is drumming and I'm spending almost every penny I got on it lol; I'm also saving for my first car and a nice balisong.

  • Thanks Jeff ;)

  • I'm almost done with my driving license, so now I'm saving to maintain having a car, no new knives for me for now =p

  • Great video like always jeff. Im 13 but have many hobbies such as a huge and growing zippo collection, many knives, firearms, outdoor survival and swimming. i bought a metal detector a few days ago thinking i would like it buyt it seems i dont and wasted my money. so i sold it to my dad for a little under what i paid

  • I worked when I was 10... Bought a new car after high school brand new.. to goto school. I did take the bus or walk to school instead of driving

  • cool

  • geez, its almost like my dad asked you to do this video. reflects my life (as a teenager) perfectly O_o

  • Jeff, you're gonna be a great dad someday. Your advice is spot on, sir.

  • @nsz85 I agree.

  • I started using prepaid debit cards only. I no longer have a conventional bank account as it kept getting me in trouble with overdraft fees. Most of my spending now is done with the debit card as its more secure if the card is stolen I am protected, unlike cash if it is stolen your just plain shit out of luck at that point. I can only spend what's on the card, once its gone that's it. I have been able to save so much money without dealing with all the bank fees.

  • It's his alarm system ;)

  • That white panel looks like a giant light switch.. i want to push it.

  • Good messege. Good habits start early.

  • My mother's 2000 mazda mpv does have some engine troubles now. But i'm impressed by how much it's gone through. It has over 200k miles now.

My 2010 mazda3 that i bought new already received big dents from stupid people who dont know how to park where i worked. The same thing happend to my coworkers' new cars. Now my 2010 car is not even that special to me anymore. A new car is not worth it

  • And yeah, dont pay for cable if u dont watch a lot of it. It was stupid of me to pay even $50 a month when I would just watch Netflix 90% of the time. And whatever shows or movies weren't on netflix, i would just download off on torrents

  • I was working full time and made a lot of money. But then i got stupid and bought a brand new car when i should have just got a certified used one. I now have less money for new guns. My contract is up with my employer so I decided I'm gonna take a break from work and now I'm back in college finishing up my Certificate. At the same time, I'm getting state and gov't GI Bill assistance, along with my parents letting me stay at their place with my dad paying the utility bills. I really appreciate

  • im 14 today and my birthday money and christmas money till im 17 is going to my dad so when im 17 i can buy a car mot tax insurance

  • when ican i work and go to school but i cnat get the money for much time why i give it to my parents for buy food

  • having hobbies as a hobby. a hobby within a hobby. hobbyception.

  • Great video Jeff!

  • great vid jeff

  • great vid,good info.

  • Great vid. Very useful advice.

  • your real hobby is having hobbies

  • Here's an idea. Evaluate your hobbies and priorities. If you're paying 100 dollars a month for cable, you're a moron.

It's called Netflix instant streaming. 8 bucks a month.

  • I like money

  • The Armory Channel really needs to watch this video multiple times

  • Great vid Jeff. I am also guilty of this sometimes, it is very important to live within your means.

  • The only thing money's good for is spendin'.

There's always more money to be had.

  • @DTesch357 heard that...when your dead you can't take it with you so fuck it.

  • i am 15 and have been saving money for about 4 months or so for a car and have saved roughly 1,200 dollors and hopefully buying one next november or december.

  • You guys probably already know this, but, if your buying your first car, or any car really. BUY USED. Always always always buy used. But know your shit before you buy it. And DO NOT buy German cars. When they work, they're great. But they break more often than Japanese or American cars (For the most part) And when they do break, the parts usually cost more, and they're much harder to fix yourself.

  • @SavageArms357 so what car do you recomend as a "first car"?

  • @longboarders1 Kind of depends on where you live. In warmer climates, A ford Crown Victoria isn't a bad choice. For colder climates, a Buick Park Avenue or Ultra. For some reason they're VERY cheap on craigslist (At least where I live) But they're extremely reliable, just gotta make sure it has somewhat low miles and no rust.

Honda, Toyota, and Subaru are also awesome cars. But with Subaru, after about 120k miles, the head gaskets need to be replaced. After that, great car.

  • @longboarders1 And with the Honda (The Accord for instance), I've read that sometimes they can have transmission problems after about 130-150k miles

But if your in the market for your first car, always check craigslist. And if the guy on the phone tells you there's only 'little things' wrong with it, or it's 'Only a little rusty', he's probably lying to get you interested to come down and look at it, and once you get there you find out it's a mess. Always ask for more pictures.

  • It's not hobby if it don´t take all your money

  • I am a (young) teen and i don;t blow it all at once. I don't save up for a car or college but I save it for stuff that I either REALLY want or need.

  • Hobby's are like desserts, nice like an extra but make sure you also get a diner.

  • I end up spending most of my allowance on food. But with a part time job it will be good to have some more money coming in. But yes, at 16, it really is good not to have any bills and not have to worry about having an empty wallet.

  • @MrUnworthyOne Anything can get you killed, even sitting on your ass, so that was a pretty pointless comment.

  • I live for my hobbies, My only hobby is firearms though, I guess im lucky to only have 1 main hobby.

  • Truer words were never spoken

  • Very Wise

  • god damn what was the politically incorrect word this is driving me crazy

  • what was the term that was politically incorrect?

  • Good message Jeff. As a young person I like listening to people who know what they're talking about in life, rather than listening to people my age who like to think they know everything, but really they don't have a clue.

  • Well said dude!

  • take some adoral you can work all 24 hours!

  • What's a wudder bill? :)

  • I've just learned this lesson for myself and am 28...better late than never

  • Jeff, as a teen, we start our adulthood in debt 90% of the time regardless. I myself have started adulthood in debt. University fees are put off, and on loan from the Australian government if you can't pay them up front.

  • You should make a video about how to file a tax return. Would be helpful I think.

  • @kevinengelhard that would be pretty funny and honestly it would probably help a shit ton of people out

  • Yea man I'm 18 and I'm puting 100bux away from my check every week for my first car.. :-)

  • i got a ton of $ for my bday and blew 400 on clothes and bought two knives i wanted to buy more but i was dam this seems like a waste. good vid

  • @theotherkairi holy crap man I don't think all the clothes I own combined cost 400 bucks xD

  • i here you brother im 21 years old supporting my family and trying to go to school at the same time tringin with my guns and taking care of my fish..im in the middle class just enough to pay bills and have some fun after...

  • Canceled the cable last month because I was spending $100 just so I could watch the Food Network? Really? You're right about living for your hobbies. Last year I saved up for individual pieces of camping gear that I wanted only to realize that without a car I'd be hard pressed to use em (live in a city). So now guess what I'm saving for.

  • If you have the opportunity to take a financial class in high school, do it. It taught me SOO much

  • forget the bills have fun you can die any minute and you will still get charged even when your already dead don't be a slave to the banks

  • @kaihoosi1 yea or you can die 60 years from now too.

  • @JUKEBOXX1990 don't worry be happy

  • This is really solid advice.

With hobbies like these it's really easy to get sucked into spending more than you should.

I had to budget my knife and gear spending. I set aside a certain amount a week, and can't spend over that on toys. This has resulted in a lot more money making it into my long term savings and investments. Which is good.

  • Well said Jeff!!!

Wish someone sat me down and gave me this talk when i was younger.

  • hobbies are sometimes a good investment.IF you play your card right.

  • Amen brother

  • great video Jeff. helps to put things into perspective about the way things are in the real world. thanks for doing what you can to help others around you!

  • Great message, good things to think about

  • I don't mean to disagree Jeff, but gas prices are not that expensive. Now the taxes on gas, that's where the expense comes from.

  • i've got a bachelor's, a master's and some other degrees. Academic bureaucratic bullshit, only good for impressing sheeple, i rather shoot sheeple :D gawd wish it were zombie time, z-day nao pls haha

  • @nephildevil You have an extremely ignorant way of looking at that. Look at what you just said, you wish that the undead would come back and devour the living, so that you can shoot things. You might want to consider getting that looked into by a professional. You know, the kind that go to college to help people that enjoy watching others be eaten and shooting them.

  • @EchoGolfKilo You are being extremely ignorant to my cynicism toward modern society and civilization. But yeah why not just shut up and conform like everybody else right.

  • thanks for the input jeff/ were all guilty of it, coarse im younger so ill enjoy it while i can!

  • Videos like this really increases the character of our community. Give yourself a pat on the back Jeff. This was incredibly well said!

  • Education is extremely important, three more years and I'll have my Zoology degree. Then hopefully work on my masters after that. It aint easy though, and I can see how alot of people give up that path, but I plan on giving it my all and then some.

  • Yep I think you realized the system is BS. Take a deep breath and go and roll up an old past time and think of how crazy the world is LOL

  • Hopefully Pete from the armory channel watches this. He couldn't handle the fact that someone he knows got an Ed Brown and totally screwed himself to attain one. To me he sure has changed. But you my friend always keep it real keep up the great work.

  • Excellent video. I'm married and have two kids, and I'm a college student. I can relate all too well.

  • I love the knive vids, but i had no idea this would be so interesting

  • nice job man on this vid..... im going trough ths sme thing atm lol

im a lobsterman an its the off season an money is tight an looks like i may not get that new orange handle para2 lol

  • Those ads kinda help cutlerylover out. 5 seconds isn't too much to ask, is it?

  • Great video. I turn 18 on Sunday, and I spend money like it is water through my fingers. I have a (crappy) job, but will soon have a (less crappy) job. I love the way you stress education. I have been blessed with a solid brain and a good education, and am in for amount 8 more years of college, but I truly do believe this will give me the life I want. I have expensive hobbies (knives, golf, hot sauce), and I don't think I devote enough to savings. I hope to change that.

  • get rid of the commercials....

  • @amrjr007 Get Firefox.. the turn on your ad blocker.. No more commercials! I haven't seen one in well over a year

  • @amrjr007 heh an ironic request in a video dealing with finances. You're few seconds of mild annoyance helps Jeff keep a roof over his head. If you like the videos he makes it's worth putting up with.

  • luckily i consider eating a hobby...lol

  • Jeff, I was thinking the exact same thing not three days ago; and I decided that I started to take advantage of my learners permit and some extra cash I had and drive down to Spyderco way; and let me tell ya. I had a blast and I picked up a shiny new Cricket. منجل-

  • This is so true. Its fun to buy and collect until you run out of money. Then you will have to sell your stuff to pay your bills

  • Don't save. Invest!

  • Don't spend your life in self-denial. Life is short, you could die tomorrow.

  • how did anybody dislike this video?

  • @alanpoohbear21 they are a bunch of negative douches

  • Excellent Advice. I recommend everyone, regardless of age, to live within your budget and to start saving some money for emergencies. Living within your budget is pretty simple, do not spend more than you make. An emergency fund is a sum of money you put into a savings account that you do not touch, unless there is an emergency. For people without any / a lot bills, that could be 500 to 1,000. For people with bills, should be between 3-6 months of living expenses. it'll give you peace of mind!

  • My hobbies are fishing, hunting, knives, guns, slingshots, high end pellet guns, zippos, pipe smoking, bows, and sex whenever i can.

  • I'm 17 and have about 5 grand saved up. My Mom and Dad are grate and made me save haf the mony I get. I hus mad to them wen I was yug but now I'm vary happy thay did that. I know that thay wur looking out for me

  • Fully agree with you Jeff its why I set that knife purchase resolution at 2 knives one cheap one a dream knife the cheaper knife ($30-40) to have something extra in My collection I can use the rest of the year till its bought saving for an emmerson

  • patienece is a virtue.

  • I'm 15, and I have worked, and saved my money all my life. I have a good amount of money saved up (I won't say how much, but its a lot for a teenager to have to spend.) I don't spend much at all, maybe 30 bucks a week. I don't even have a hobby because my interests aren't approved by my parents.

Am I missing out on something? I have never been allowed to spend my money, because it would be "a waste and I would never use it". I don't have a hobby because I am not allowed to have one.

  • @FrackleRackle sounds like a sad life

  • @FrackleRackle Don't tell them and do your hobby anyway. If they don't support you then they don't deserve to know. My parents were against me shooting for a long time, but now they've opened up to it a lot. My parents used to be fiercly anti-gun btw.

  • You're doing good by saving money kid. And if your parents disapprove of your hobbies, then prove to them (over time of course) that you can participate in those hobbies and still be a responsible person. Just do well in school, do your chores, but at the same time let them know that you are a young man and not a little b***h

  • Ive been working for about 6 months made about 4 grand CDN, havent spent any yet but my money from xmas and birthday oh i spend that I need a new knife come to think of it

  • I'd like to mention that these prices depend on where you live i live in kansas and we have a morgatge with insurance costs bout 500 a month however the problem is job allocation

  • cutlerylover i got a Hobbie for ya its called saveing money it don tcost you money to save money so its the best Hobbie you can have

  • FYI in Russia cars appreciating in value something like gold and guns here in US

  • I have around 300 saved in silver.. no cash to do stuff.. it sucks for a 16 year old. Check out my channel guys! It keeps me going!

  • im 13 and i save my money :)

when im old enough, i would like to purchase a nice handgun and quality ammo...or possible a good balisong :)

  • thumbs up if your 21+ and live with your parents!!!!!!!!!! lol im a loser

  • @DaBossk maybe. but you're a brave loser.

  • @jason200912 sadddddd face.... i actually just turned 21.

  • ok. 22 bla bla lol. Don't sweat it I shoveled snow lol. You're right 100% right. What is the PC word

  • do you have a wife? just wondering i am a viewer for the last 2 years love your videos!!!

  • I think i liked you better when the hobbies ruled YOU and you had no moral obligation...

  • i want that doctor monocular nutnfancy reviewed...

  • My mom wrote a book on teaching teens money smarts. It's called "How to Ditch Your Allowance And Be Richer Then Your Parents"

  • More wise words
