  • Cancer stove? Sorry, but I don't get it. Care to elaborate? Peace....

  • @dirtridermag44 canister stove, the propane.butane mix cans

  • @beast12101 Hey....Thanks for clearing that up, makes much more sense. I appreciate the tip for coffee. Cold morning, hot coffee--gooood. thanks again.

  • Taster's Choice packets and tea-bags, here.

  • I just make a coffee bag out of a coffee filter. Tie it closed with a string. Boil it in a pot of water. Lightweight and cheap. I have no jetboil stove. I use a mini Trangia alcohol stove. Or I could drink bitter instant coffee. Tea or coffee makes dirty unfiltered spring or creek water tasty and safe.

  • I have that press came with my jetboil. But you always come up with clever ideas.

  • turn the screen part over it seals better ,also just a thought Coglins makes like little tea bags that you hang on top of a regular cup then slowly puor hot water through

  • just to Starbuks pack.

  • I have always used instant coffee. It was mre (canadian) coffee packs that got me into being a coffee drinker in the first place. Aside form that if i wated fresh coffee in the woods I would grind beans to a verry corse grind and make small baggies out of chese cloth and use it like a tea bag.

  • The press screen is upside down. I know I'm a little late, sorry.

  • This video got me to thinking and now am well on my way to making a coffee press using my 700 SP. Thanks for the inspiration. (the true inspiration is the black liquid that turns me from a bear back into a human in the mornings LOL!)

  • DUDE, You RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just saved me a ton of research and money. I went online to JetBoil and went to the spare parts section. I ordered a "spare" rod and bottom filter, plus a PCS lid shipped for $23.85

    You Rock!

  • coghlan's makes filters that hang on a holder right on you're cup very light & don't get you're pot dirty

  • GSI Outdoor Ultralight Java Drip?

  • I like it, but didnt have it when I did this vid.

  • Good job! I've been brewing 'turkish coffee' when I'm on the trail but of course you end up wasting a lot of it because of the sediment... This is a nice setup for those of us, like you, who don't want to purchase a separate coffee system. Thanks for posting.

  • Call Jet Boil at (888) 611-9905 for a lid. Push "0" for the operator, you get a nice lady, ask to buy one of the lids. They are $3.95 + $5.00 s&h. They do everything over the phone. You can even get the new translucent lid from the flash series if you are really nice. good luck

  • bro just drill a little hole in the centre of your snowpeak lid, stick the plunger through before you screw the bottom on and you'll have a plunger which will keep the coffee hot :)

  • You have the filter screwed on upside down!

The little fins around the side should be pointing down. This profoundly increases the amount of grounds retained by the filter and allows room for the grounds at the bottom of the cup.

    Cheers.

  • im a little bit of a coffee snob and ive been trying to come up with the best mix between simple to make yet satisfying coffee. some kind of press is def. the way to go, but the ability to 'multi-purpose' a press is the bee's knees. good job.

  • I really like this vid, i am planninbg a extended stay up north this summer and Im trying to figure out what to do about coffee, Id like to see more vids on making coffee and teas and the like in the backcountry

  • guy80,

check out my video on styro-vs-plastic cup. I show how I use a cup and a TI filter. Very simple. Very light. The coffee will have "texture" as if made in a french press.

  • good tip.

  • humm...good thing i dont drik coffee

  • Wonder if that coffee maker NCHiker1970 made would fit in that pot? I like the idea you have to. Would the cover from a REI coffee press mug fit in that mug? Just a thought because I had to buy a replacement top.

  • I not sure , but the mugs are usually double walled to keep things warm, which makes them smaller on the inside.

  • I have had bad experiences with the presses that have those plastic rims. It gets grinds in the coffee, which I can't stand. I use a 4-cup glass press meant for the kitchen. Yes it's overkill, but I am NOT an ultralight backpacker.

  • I found that if I let it settle a bit before pressing i dont have a problem with grinds, and Im not even using course, I just have some medium grind for drip machines.

  • I carry Folgers Singles tea bag style coffee. Very light, easy cleanup, easy prep, taste great. (No, I don't work for Folgers)

    Ape

  • very true, but I havent brought myself to drill quite yet. Thanks , BTW I did find the rubber jet boil lid, so I'll have see how it works.

  • FYI - if you drill a hole in the middle of your cook pot lid the press will work normal like in the press set up you got the press from. And the small hole in the lid you can add a nob when you are not making coffee so to remove the lid much easyer when cook. just my 2 cents, Hamm336
