Excellent overview, nice and simple and sells the benefits. I'm going to use this with my adult learners. We use Mahara for their Key Skills portfolios but this really gets across the idea that it's not just something done in college for the sake of it!
An ePortfolio is private. You have control over it and the way in which it is published. This is what it has been designed for. It means you can cherry pick items from your portfolio to publish. A blog is designed to publish to everyone. You can either let everyone see entries or not see them so its not as flexible at sharing your work with multiple recipients.
Nice video. But I would say that Sandra can achieve the same through her PLE inlcuding blog, Google Docs (or other), file sharing sites, flickr, yourtube etc
this is a *really* good explanation for ePortfolios especially for students. We're looking at how e-portfolios tie up with professional learning in law
I'm glad to hear you like it Julia. We are running a JISC funded project here at the University of Cumbria about e-portfolios to support staff development. The animation was done by two University of Cumbria students (they have graduated now). We are really pleased with the results.
I Really Like The Video From Your Animation showing the advantages of owning and using an e-portfolio

great video!
but being new to the concept of eportfolio: how is this different from a BLOG?
seems like you can address most of Sandra's problem by blog too?
thanks!
