I have an Intel 5300 that I bought off eBay and shoved in my Dell.
Using a cheap buffalo dual aerial router I get over 10 Megabytes/s actual speeds in windows file copy. It's very close to a full 100Mbps wired connection.
Not 3 aerials, but it works and it's very fast. Haven't seen many 3 spatial stream wireless routers or access points.
we were actually searching for a way to boost signal reception to our "Clear" formerly clearwire modem. We get very spotty reception and when it rains almost none. I wrapped the ethernet cable and wrapped it around my phone and the modem immediately jumped from one to three bars.. Thank you!!!!!
like most people I don't really want to tie up my cell phone, literally or figuratively. We don't even have a hard line connected to the house anymore, so I pulled one of the old land line phones 900MHz cordless.. plugged in the power and wrapped the handset and I am getting four times the signal that I was with just the Clear unit.
@Metalloid62 the intel 5300 will not work on hp laptops as someones state hp put locks into the bios ,so only certain cards will work mainly its intel pro worless 3945 abg and 4965abgn cards that work only . get a 4965abgn card , it supports dual band 2.4 and 5 ghz at 300 mb.
When you say "It's not gonna work" do you mean it's not gonna work at all ...or that it will work, but not to it's full capabilities? I just installed it in my HP dv5-1235dx with the two standard antennas(will install the 3rd antenna soon). I am replying to you right now on it's signal, so it's obviously working and I see that it is at 65 to 130mbps, not the 54mbps I was getting prior to the switch. Besides the 3rd antenna, the two standard antennas may need to be re positioned too.
The Default card is a Wireless 1520 802.11n Half Mini-Card and the +$45 option is Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card. Which do you think is more fit for web and gaming?
After googleing that wifi card it appears it is a dell card and they use broadcom chips which I find are not as reliable as the intel chips (Iv had disconnects, failure to connect issues with broadcom cards) personally I would get the intel card. As for gaming the intel one supports more antennas which if built into the laptop can improve range which I suppose can be beneficial for on-line gaming.
ye i own a dell now an great laptop but wireless is shit. and dell makes some of the parts for alienware soo thats why i was worried about wireless because i know some dells come with those. i'll go with intel, thanks for your help bro i really appreciate the help :)
No probs, I have the intel one and can get almost twice the signal in my dorm room to the house wireless AP than the guy in the room next to me who has a default dell card.
This is a MIMO technology on a 3x3 arrangement. It probably would be 600mb but take from that the network and encryption overheads and the noise generated at CES. Why is this guy a loser? because he works for intel and is running a booth at the CES 2009 at las vegas?

I have an HP Pavilion DV6200 T7200
using Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network. I just upgraded my router to Netgear WNDR3700 Gigabit Router.
Will this card work? If not, which "n" compat is recommended.

does anyone know if this wifi adapter compatible with any laptop?
I have a HP dv3 2150us laptop, and I want to change it's wifi adapter to this one.
is that possible?

It's not gonna work. HP put locks in their bios to prevent that kind of stuff.

@yeeluvspizza
It won't work at full speed. You need the 3 antennas to do 450mbps, without that it caps out at 300mbps.

@celderian
Which is still pretty good if your router supports it.
