This is a great brawl, one of the best of all time; but I always find it funny how (and still to this day), Montreal will start this crap, and then whine when they get what's coming to them. The Slegher cheap shot is bull, but the Canadiens really should have thought about WHY it happened.
@floundermsu The brawl starts because a HOF defenseman runs into a goalie who is most famous for having his neck cut open! With all respect to Malarchuk, he was a great goalie
During the initial brawl, how many times do you see multiple Canadiens to one Nordique? Quite a few. The most hypocritical franchise in hockey, as it's always been, and always will be.
@floundermsu The Chicago Bulls aren't hypocritical, BarcelonaFC aren't hypocritical, the New York Yankees aren't hypocritical and the San Francisco 49ers certainly aren't hypocritical. So why is the most successful team in the history of sport hypocritical. Go back and watch your minor league team Quebec!
Yup, low and behold, Montreal starts both ends of this, gets the worst of it, and I'd bet good money that 27 years ago, right after this game, they whined incessantly about it.
best hockey of the 80s... habs vs. quebec..... nhl bring nhl hockey back to quebec city...... as a toronto fan the league needs the nordiques back now!!!!!!
Is this "Good Friday" Brawl of Nordiques vs. Canadiens shown in "Best Damn Sports Show Period"? If they don't have it on "Best Damn Sports Show Period", howcome they're unsend back then.
I would NEVER let my kids watch this, what a terrible example for them; there is nothing clever or honourable about these morons, they are just laughable retards. Ban ice hockey! These thugs belong in prison, not on TV for children to watch! They (and you) are no better than dumb brunks brawling outside a bar.
@brancojeff - oh yes, not watching is the answer. So cock-fighting is ok if I don't watch it, is it? I DON'T watch it, except out of morbid fascination on youtube, to see if people actually enjoy this mindless violence.. and apparently there are morons who do. .
@4znwarrior10 - Jawohl, du hast es gefunden! Ich bin ein Nazi! My God, you really know how to confirm that hockey fans are morons. Your logic: "he disapproves of a violent sport, therefore he must have killed the Jews" - fantastic, if you had a brain, it would be fascinating to study it! You incredible, earth-shattering, cosmic IDIOT.
Hi all you hockey morons... doesn't the game kind of get in the way of a good old brainless fight? why do you even pretend that it's a sport? Reading your comments makes it clear you all get hard-on from these pathetic fighters... I imagine most of you piss in your pants at the sight of a girl, but feel really macho praising this barbaric fighting... it's worse than kindergarten, except that's it bloody dangerous.
@marpetpet ur the biggest plug ever....like wow u havent even tried the sprt i bet....the feeling of a 3 man triangle goin down the ice or dangling until u nipe top chedz greatest feeling ever....if we wanted to fight we woulda took up boxing......in hockey emotions sometimes get to you and you will fight
@laf8675309 - Every sport involves emotion, dumbo, but you don't see motorcycle riders fighting, nor athletes, nor downhill skiers, nor etc etc etc... only dumb hockey players.
@marpetpet Oh, I'm sure fights happen, but skiers only go one at a time, and motorcycle riders are on motorcycles, going fast, racing. When do they have the time to fight?
Fights usually happen in team sports, and it's not just hockey. Soccer, basketball, baseball have all had their fair share of brawls, as well as little-league games involving parents, of all things.
@NoisyWolfXII - motorcyclists battling at 200mph+ often collide, with accidents as a consequence. How often do they then get up an start punching each other? Never!
@marpetpet Well, yeah, but would a motorcyclist intentionally collide with another to screw him over? I imagine if he did, there might be a fight. But if it's an honest accident, I'm sure the motorcyclist understands that.
@NoisyWolfXII Yes, of course there are fights elsewhere, but they are the exception, not the rule. As comments here make clear, hockey fans expect fights as part of what they pay their money for. Fighting is intrinsic to hockey. Please don"t tell me that is true for baseball or basketball...
@marpetpet You have a point, I wouldn't say fighting is exactly intrinsic to hockey, although most fans do love seeing it, and it does serve its purpose(although that purpose is subject to debate), good hockey can exist without fighting(see women's hockey and international hockey since the mid-90s).
Just by the nature of it, I wouldn't judge a sport's entire fan base based on Youtube comments.
@NoisyWolfXII - Very fair comment. Amazing how one voice of reason can stop a man in his tracks. You are right of course that I should not base my view of the world on youtube! Hockey - as a sport itself, is indeed fantastic; is there really no way it can better policed to reduce these fights? Thanks for your considered and helpful comments!
@marpetpet Well, for one thing, don't forget that this game happened in 1984 between two bitter rival teams. Fighting was more common in those days, brawls like this rarely ever happen anymore, and even for back then, this was still a remarkably big fight.
I don't really think there is a good way to police a fight like this, since there's only 3(now 4) referees trying to control, in this case 40 players. Unless they call the Mounties, which in my opinion would be a little exaggerated.
So for at least the first 5 or so minutes of the 3rd period everyone is just going to chill and watch the puck sit at centre ice 0 vs 0. And the penalty box is going to look like a clown car. LOL hahahahahah
Almost as good as every game the Flames vs. the Oilers in 86. A close 3rd was the games of the Flames vs. Oil in 89 as well. Ed Whalen pulled out all of his classic Stampede Wrestling comments: "Everybody is after Everybody", "Look Out Nellie", "There was a Malfunction at the Junction", "Hunter hit Semenko from Pillar to Post", "It was a Ring a Ding Dong Dandy", and at the end of many games: "That's it, another edition of the Flames vs. The Oilers - Good night." ha ha ha. Classic NHL.
I know it's no longer accepted and heavy rules now prevent more then one altercations to happen.... but I really miss the old brawls and rivalries like these. The "gladiator" sport of modern ages that made me fall in love with the sport back in the 70's and 80's. I'm sure it was a bitch to officiate, but stuff like this brought teams together and gave a team chemistry that modern hockey seems to have lost.
@Kicker20007 Well yeah, and it's not without consequences in the old days either, most likely some guy like McSorley would be chasing after you non-stop until the gloves are dropped.
There's this guy I know named Aaron. I gave him a crack like the one at 3:05. He was running his mouth so I shut it for him.

@floundermsu The brawl actually starts why? Because a Montreal player decides to muck up the Quebec goalie, and then act all cute about it.
