The pearls are actually suppose to improve the quality of the portrait of that ghost you catch. Says so in the manual. :/ So as get as many as you can (not you cause you finished this let's play im guessing--so im speaking to people in general) so that it improve the paintings in the gallery. :D

Just an fyi- you probably know this already, but the difference between ghosts and boos, boos are born boos. And yes they have genders and children :d They are an actual species of creature, not actual ghosties. This is why boos grow up while ghosts stay as they were when they died.
