Actually, it was a Nazi SS colonel. What I find is really helpful is that if I see a movie that looks like I might want to see it, I look at the plot on Wikipedia.

Brad Pitt is not the main main character. This was just the American trailer. Most of the movie is in French and German, and it also revolves around French Jewish girl in hiding who also is trying to kill Hitler. This is not an American Hero film.

Americans never lost their land, they never were threatened to loose their country. They were barely scratched by Japanese air forces, while whole Europe was a slaughter. USA made a chose to help, but they had no motive to be aggressive. It was not their war. It was their conscious chose to come and oppose Nazi forces. No matter how cruel Nazi were, it was none of USA's business. Their help was appreciated but they didn't have luxury to judge. When you watch this movie, don't take it seriously.

Such a portrayal of situation is insulting to both Germans and Americans. Watch Downfall if you want to see war from German perspective. You will see why they hate Hitler now so much. German people believed in Hitler, they trusted him like no one else in history. They hate him not because his plan had failed, but because he accused his people in failure and treated those who died for him like scam. Americans came into play as support forces and peace makers. It was not their business to punish!

it's not a war movie, it's a gang movie. In reality 8 people could do little difference at war time. Gangs could gain advantage only against civils. At war person's aggressiveness will only make him dead quicker. At war conditions every soldier is already at his peak of strength, murder of enemy for them is not immoral. The only thing considered to be immoral during war time is betrayal, the rest are just necessary actions. This movie is misleading.

Sure. I liked True Romance, Dusk til Dawn, Pulp Fiction, Death Proof, Kill Bill 1, 2, and Reservoir Dogs. I wasn't exactly enthralled with Natural Born Killers, Jackie Brown or Inglorious Basterds. Quentin Tarantino's sense of conversational flow is usually good but sometimes he either gets so long winded or hokey that it distracts me from the movie. "Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids." was so awful it ground the movie to a screeching halt until the action started up again.

Guy I don't think this movie is supposed to be historically accurate or portray any battle of any kind. If I was watching it from a shrewed elderly combat veteran stand point I would sure as hell find it offensive. But I would prefer to watch it with humor and entertainment in mind.
