  • Theory is fine right up until someone butts you in the face breaks your nose and knocks 4 teeth out up until then its all been DANCING. If you can do the business then u really r a martial artists. Thats what I say about it being a different mindset on the cobbles u gotta make sure its your head that does the damage first

  • ticklemyturkey, I think you greatly misunderstand Sir, of Course I know JKD is A COncept and Not a system after all ive trained one on one with Paul, he taught me that many moons ago....secondly, I also understand that JKD was Bruce Lee's Expression of the martial arts Duh!!! So no argument from me I agree with you!

  • Hoolega on vaja kuulata, video keskel on hea meeldetuletus, et enne liigutust on lõdvestus jne. 1-2-3, kus 2 on lõdvestus. Bruce, JKD ja Win Chun õpetavad(sid) seda niigi aga hea on üle kuulata.

    Thank You!

    Great Vid.

  • Classic .

  • 3:32 Like a cantaloupe: You can lay it down, or you can smash it. - Paul Vunak

  • I need to start growing my mullet out again. it will make my jkd so much better.

  • looks nice with a collaborating partner. If your opponent is high on valium you even might be able to score as you show it in reality.

  • @bigpunchbasti Paul Vunak can use it all in reality as in his days spent training the military, Apparently it got so bad as thats why his services were "dispensed with" Training during the day fighting at night waking up in a cell in the morning.

  • Very cool and informative!

  • I think Paul Vunak played a very important role in modern MA, as his research has been a kind of bridge btw JKD concepts and MMA - in fact, Matt Thornton's MMA-centred "functional JKD" is a natural evolution of JKD.... keep on the great work guys.

  • @Xveldin i saw that too. that's not paul vunak =]]. search "BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU vs STREET FIGHTER" or "Jiu Jitsu vs street fighter. MMA used on the street"

  • How can some people don't like this. This is mid 80's gold.

  • @ShihanElixon01 are you implying that Paul hasn't been in any fights?

  • HEY! since when did Michael J Fox do martial arts?

  • @ShinkaTV lol, I don't know what comment you are referencing, but that would be the last thing I would imply.

  • Is this rex kwon do ?

  • @grimhero It's a mix of Jeet Kun Do and Filipino Dumog

  • @grimhero It'd be complete with some American flag pants! XD

  • @ShihanElixon01 which jkd guy are u refering to got fuk up.? also i get what u mean in the last part. Bruce lle grew up in hong kong during the worst time to grow up in a chinese speaking nation when all the political and social shit was going down he get shit from asians for being decended from dutch jews on hsi mother side and got fuked up for that. and got fuked for being a minority in the US by which point he was quite good at street fights

  • Like a cantoulope???

  • finally a Paul Vunak video! thanks for sharing.

  • Yes! he is the real deal!! And he was training with the Gracies most notably Royce and Rickson starting in the 80's and spent 10 plus years with them learning the ground game against "NON COOPERATING opponents!! Paul was also at one point in earlier years focused on becoming a "pro boxer" who trained against "NON COOPERATING opponents!! So, when you see him doing an instructional DVD everything he does on DVD he can do agaisnt a "NON COOPERATING opponent!! If your more curious train with him

  • He's an amazing fighter!!!

  • ES CASI IGUAL QUE KEMPO

  • He has the most sensible techniques I've heard.

  • I like the hovering glove to change the scene lol

  • That guy with the boxing gloves looked like he really wanted to hit Paul after it looked like he was being manhandled.

  • A gr8 fighter is he who have no style..and just want to take his enemy down..

  • this guy is great. but a week ago i saw a crackhead that looks -exactly-like him in the video. i sure hope sifu is not hitting on a pipe..

  • Forget art to art. It's all about ranges and tools and what your opponent gives you or you set up. It's like any other sport.

  • @BKKaye ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS IS LIKE SPORTFIGHTING IS SADLY AND STUPIDLY MISTAKEN!!!!!

  • @Trapnet1 You misunderstood my comment because I didn't explain my point well. I think it's time to stop referring to various arts and discuss what is possible at each range. As Bruce said, as long as all humans have two arms and two legs there is only fighting, not Asian or Western, styles, etc. My sport reference, was simply to the body mechanics and also a Lee reference, there are no Asian styles of basketball vs western etc. There's no need to call it dumag.

  • @BKKaye Thanks for the clarification however,if you listen closely to Paul he has "Never" referred to Dumog as being JKD!! Paul always, as does Dan Inosanto give credit to what ever art that he using in a particular range and time!

For instance as Im sure you well know Bruce incorporated elements of

Western Boxing,Fencing,Savate,Wing Chun etc! In reality is Savate JKD? No!! However Bruce used elements of Savate to develop JKD! Then again JKD is" Not' Savate!!

  • @Trapnet1 JKD is a concept and NOT a system. You cant really teach JKD as a system as its different for each individual. If you teach someone everything Bruce Lee did that is still not JKD its his JKD. From what I know how it works is this. Everyone has different attributes so the skills u learn are the ones that match your own attributes. "Use what is useful reject what is useless"

  • @TickleMaTurkey Greetings Sir, I as I stated above, fo course I know JKD is a Concept and Not a System! Paul taught me that many years ago! I also know that JKD was Bruce Lee's personal expression of the martial arts! No argument there....and I also understand everyone has different attributes and skillsets no argument there either....I learned from Paul so my understanding of JKD comes from the Dan Inosanto's top student...nice to find common ground Sir!!!

  • @Trapnet1 Sorry about misunderstanding. Vu is a very talented knowledgeable guy.to b honest Im a bit of an "Arnchair" martial artists lol. That said have watched more training videos read more stuff in every art u could shake a fist at. The reasons for that though is there just wasn't anything other than karate around when I was younger and at the time I thought that was just a lot of shouting and stamping of feet in my twenties I had a heart problem which totally gummed everything.

  • @TickleMaTurkey No worries Sir...everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I respect Everyone's opinion. I just wanted to make my position clear as to where I stand as far as my understanding of JKD! I like yourself, have been training in and involved with the martial arts for over 30 plus years and have seen virtually evrything out there...and after awhile you come to the realization that, EVERY art, style, system, etc has great practitioners who can make it work!! Respect Always

  • @Trapnet1 absolutely. There is too much theory and not enough realism in the martial arts, Frank Shamrock was a hell of a fighter and as far as I am aware hadn't trained in any system. A guy that is athletic, fit, strong learns how to kick punch headbutt elbow knee and fights in the street regullarly will be a pretty big handful for anyone. For me what the martial arts is all about is evening things up for the smaller guy (in reality fighting )

  • @Trapnet1 All systems work or eg Millions of japanese would not learn karate if u were 2 read the rubbish thats written about that. It mainly the man not the system. In soccer coaches tell u that you need to play with both feet to b the best. Maradona the greatest player ever was as left footed as u cud get and it didnt hamper him Where JKD comes in for me is matching a persons attrubutes to the techniques that most suits him.

  • @TickleMaTurkey A world renowned martial arts instructor, author, fighter, and martial arts pioneer by the name of Al Dacascos once told me something very profound....he said and I quote" A Man Who Knows His Own Art Is A Hard Man To Beat"!!! I know people in virtually every art who can't fight.... on the other hand you have people who understand and have done it in the street even before learing martial arts....once they learn the art they become lethal!!

  • @Trapnet1 Yep its like turgo charging an already powerful engine. Al Dacascos? I'll look him up .. not related to Mark Dacascos the actor is he?

  • @TickleMaTurkey You got that right my friend!! And that would be a resounding YES!! Al Dacascos is actor Marks Dacasco's Father!! I have trained with Sifu Al for over 15 years and was honored to be promoted by him personally in Hawaii to BB! He truly is an incredible martal artist and humbled to be one of his students. He has since given me permission to study with other Instructors and it has been an incredible journey lot's of pain the REAL Fun, and of course blood sweat and tears.

  • 1 dude got owned by him in combat.

  • "..a cantalope, you can lay it down or smash it". Vunak rocks

  • "Like a cantaloup, you can lay it down or smash it" Vunak rocks

  • he should be in the UFC. for he would lay the SMACKDOWN on thier wussy asses

  • OK, Vunak's breadth AND depth of knowledge is just about overwhelming. Clearly, he knows a LOT.

But what I'm wondering is how much of all this stuff he can actually use on instinct, under pressure, while scared & pumped full of adrenaline. I've seen him take so many different approaches from different styles which are predicated on different fundamental assumptions and different strategies...I just don't see how 1 human could internalize ALL of it.

  • @TwoGunGunnar if someone were to fight this man u would surely lose ur eye if not more

  • @TwoGunGunnar I understand what you're saying. It's just so much to learn... That being said, that's where training comes in. Where things start to flow out naturally, and, with training, you'll realize a lot of what works for you, what doesn't, and what works for different situations.

  • @TwoGunGunnar You don't - he is very specific about differentiating between PROTECTION and PERFECTION. This particular vid is VERY applicable IRL, as is most of Vu's stuff. Drilling stuff in a realistic manner makes it visceral and easier to apply when needed. At it's simplest Vu uses Blast- HKE and the other stuff is more along the lines of "what if..?" whilst applying your main "formula"

  • I would just shoot this fucker with all his dumog shit

  • @Elmartschi76 Intelligent reply. Wait, not really. Loser

  • @Elmartschi76 Great comment. Oh wait, it wasn't. Loser

  • @Elmartschi76 pussy

  • @Elmartschi76 And if you don't have a gun on you at that point what do you do?

  • @Elmartschi76 pussy

  • @Elmartschi76 Trying carrying a Gun in NYC, and shooting the 2 17 year old bloods that attempt to rob you on the subway, you will go to jail. Not only are you NOT allowed to carry a gun in NYC, but if those teens manage to survive, you will be spending time in jail with them, and the rest of they're blood homies.

  • If I had to fight paul vunak, I would just go ahead and shit myself, and then go ahead and knock myself out with a hammer to save him the trouble.......or someone would have to hand me a gun, otherwise, I wouldnt want to fight paul vunak

  • Dumog is a Filipino Martial Art.

  • Bruce Lee discovered the limitations of Wing Chun in a real world fight against a Tong enforcer. the awkward footwork and other factors caused Bruce to seek out other arts and concepts, as well as the importance of fitness. JKD is FAR more than mere Wing Chun. As to Vunak, he is indeed legend and I have all his DVDs/tapes

  • @FFlint07 Bruce Lee was an actor since childhood and never met a Tong Inforcer in his life...all of these stories are nonsense. He was a stage performer as a kid in HongKong and came here at 17.....so how many years did he really train in Wing Chun?

  • @FFlint07 Good point about the footwork! Footwork derives from the Baht Jam Dao form, that means Bruce Lee hasn't learned the entire syllabus of Wing Chun. But he was more than average in Wing Chun because that's his kungfubasis.

And as a student in Practical Wing Chun I really enjoy watching this clip. A lot of stuff to think about :D Fighting has to be effortless, this DUMOG seems very effective ;)

PS: there is more to Wing Chun than u know, this counts for ALL Martial Arts!! :D

  • remember wing chun is the foundation for jeet kune do..............people wanna see how it works? those that doubt it I dare you to go challenge him or his top students and tell me how it goes...matter of fact y not put it on youtube?

  • remember wing chun is the foundation for jeet kune do

  • not wing chun at akk fool

  • great vid, 10/10

  • The techniques are wing tsun and he is agerat warrior ı thing

  • The techniques are wing tsun

  • please some one show me some proof that this fancy stuff works, a video maybe?

  • @TheKlaj1992 This is not fancy at all, IMO, it just sounds fancy because of the terminology he's using. He really just breaks down fighting based on distance, and what really works. He's widely considered one of the most realistic instructors in the world. Taken out of context, i could see how a small clip could seem "fancy", but you should check out some of his other stuff. He instructs something like 12 different government agencies because it's so simple and easy to learn.

  • @masterblastertkd (Y) will do, thanks

  • I would NOT want to fight this dude.

  • Dumog is a filipino term which means to gang up on or to overwhelm this is like doing a set play in basketball. if you if you are not able to break the play your opponent is going to score this is momentum building. to counter this you have to break the set play or the momentum. i am a filipino and i know this this really works against aggressive opponents but if you know non committal attacks and fakes u can anticipate his moves and counter his counter attacks.vulnerable on the legs also

  • @akrhoable

dumog is a filipino grappling art.. the term to gang up is a different thing

  • @akrhoable Dumog is not to gang up, it's "grapple"

  • he should be in the expendables

  • mr vunak has been doing this before it was cool. not afraid to just get sloppy and flow in front of the cameras and show what is real. much respect

  • now this, this is good stuff eazy to apply under stress or fear and agression. goodapplication with resistance. great stuff.

  • Remember I was here.Thai

  • Proud to be a full instructor under him , even though I became a student under other great masters and original Lee students, something about Sifu Paul and how he views the martial art needs to be respected and admired.

  • Dumog Is a good Tequice... Every Teq Is good If u train it...Even Karate... i have nothin against karate...!

  • this man is a complete legend!!!

  • @mikeyplace101 legend don't make dvds...

  • @mikeyplace101 na bruce lee was ..

  • Straightblast, headbutts, knees, elbows, Vunak´´s formula is still the best out there.

  • Efficiency is beauty.

  • MASTER!!!

  • ufc is sport and become sport more and more now the have breaks in it in real fight there is no breack in real fight you can do many things that you cant do in ufc but can end up a fight quick

  • @CenrionPrime Sport martial arts are the most effective for fighting imo. Mostly because of the fact that you train them every day with resisting opponents.

You can train ninjitsu and learn secret ninja death strikes. But you'll never practice them in real life.

If you've ever trained a sport martial art, you'll quickly realize that you just can't utilize the techniques you've learned when you need to if you've never practiced them on a resisting opponent (who's trying to do the same to you).

  • @Robopencil yes 2 thumbs way up. iv een saying the same shit with very little positive feedback i cant stand play fighting arts. man your comment is gold. thank you i was wondering if i was almost alone.

  • this guy is the real deal, all his videos a full of realistic, practical, deadly street fighting techniques...no bullshit!

  • Don't like Dumog.

  • "Vu was a 'cold war' SEAL?" - He was a civilian contractor who taught west coast teams for 3 or 4 years - nothing more, nothing less.

  • @Jehu30 he had a contract for four years with the navy to train seal team 6 in virginia 1987-1991...........

  • @commando611 My bad, - thought he had only taught teams in Cali.

  • what are you white people doing?

  • He beat him like a red-headed step child.

  • dude he totally kicks him at 1:00 - such a sick kick

  • That's nothing, Bas Rutten did a video where he slammed his partner and busted his ribs. Also a series called Crash the Lines on Doce Pares. I can't remember who did that now its Christopher something, he abuses the hell out of his partner the whole series.

  • @sigmacombatsystems you're an idiot, bas rutten is a sport figher. he knows very little compared to vunak, not even in the same league. vunak was a cold war navy seal. you're an idiot UFC TROLL! TRY CRASHING THAT CRAP UFC BULLSHIT WITH RUTTEN WITH AN ESKRIMA SWORD, HE WILL DIE, I GUARANTEE IT! fuckng stupid MMA turds

  • @rodentgungfu No you're the idiot, no where did I say that he and Bas Rutten were comparable. That was posted before all the @ reply shit got added. It was a reply to tonykapel saying Vu kicked his partner so hard. That's why I mentioned the Doce Pares videos where the partner gets drummed on and locked endlessly. Personally I can barely stomach watching MMA, especially the UFC. And the last thing I would do is bash Paul Vunak.

  • some real life situations. Your great! Keep up the great work!
