  • While what he is saying is interesting, he still didn't actually answer the question of "wouldn't warlords take over?" I'm not implying that his lack of answer is a justification for the state but any honest person would say he didn't answer that question.

To answer that question he would have to explore the incentives and likely outcomes of an anarcho-capitalist society and what social mechanisms would exist to prevent the rise of warlords. I'd like to hear more about that.

  • I had to stop this video short.

His ideas are great for a rational species.

I don't think this stuff applies to HUMANS.

It makes good fantasy reading, though.

  • @safeinsuburbia you don't think the state has a hand in making human beings such an irrational species?

  • @Juggalo4Peace "you don't think the state has a hand in making human beings such an irrational species?"

The species is very good at "irrational". 50% of the population naturally has an IQ below 100.

  • Don't think hes an awkward speaker but then again you may be comparing him to Obama who yells soundbites instead of describing complex social theories.

  • Awesome! Thank you for posting this!

  • @TimothyADonaghue he just has a lot to say. lol

  • He is answering the fundamental Hobbesian argument for the state, that the state of nature is state of war. Murphy wordily explains the simple problem with the necessity of the State acc. to Hobbes. The state is born out of the SoN by people collectively agreeing to live peacefully under a state. The agreement is pre-state, so therefore the state is superfluous.

  • I love Robert's work, but geez he is an awkward speaker.

  • @TimothyADonaghue I disagree. I think he comes off very earnest. That's pretty important for someone who hasn't really made up their mind.

  • @TimothyADonaghue I disagree. He is one of my favorite speakers from Mises. There are many more awkward speakers there.
