A lot of people were saying how hard these bosses are or how much they take away from the stealth play but honestly IT IS NOT TRUE. I am playing my first play through, non-lethal, close range, so I have just a stun gun and sell all weapons and ammo. It took about five tries but I beat this boss with nothing but my stun gun and some of the red barrels. And all my augmentations are towards stealth and hacking. It IS possible, and a new game is not the answer. I am playing on "give me a challenge"
Ok Here is how I did it. There is a room with a turrent in it. Before that room you can hack the turrent then you can pick it up and use it in a few different room conserving your ammo. Just keep shooting Barrett in the face,,IN THE FAAAACCCEEE!!!
@BotheredMe And tell me, how - what you currently playing - is supposed to make any difference? You said something totally wrong when it could take 1 minute to check on your own. In any society that's asking loudly for some righting of things and eventually a verbal humiliation. That's routine. To avoid this, next time you'll check.
First off, the fact that you just recently decided to reply to my comment just to tell me that I was wrong. Maybe I'm just a politically incorrect guy.
Second, your hating needs better noun/verb agreements.
Last but most important, idgaf bout yo problems t(^.^t)
Btw if somebody came her wondering how to defeat Barret, just use a lot of explosives, grenades, C4 or rocket launcher.
Even the EMP, or Concussion grenades are good.
Delay him and shoot him in the head while he's under effect of the blast or EMP, if the explosives aren't good enough(doubt it)
There is also supplies around the area while fighting Barret that will provide you with some of the said required arms, if you don't have any saved up.
@TheTrueHaddock The least you could do is change the title to reflect the fact that there isn't an actual boss fight in the video. You know, instead of being a snarky ass.
@DaSteffinatah Yeah, but when Barret punches you in the face it's kind of hard. Regardless, I found a way to beat him much more easily than shooting him. He actually killed himself!
@The000URBANSHADOW BUT seeing as he was employed by a biotechnology firm he must have had a few check-ups during his time there. Also, he was obviously getting all *giggity* with Megan, the chief scientist... It's possible they took a little tissue, cloned it a few times in order to have an ample supply, then began using it in tests

@Knifegash Yes, They do say Fuck in this game at points, They're just being discreet about it, We don't need another Mafia 2 (Broke the world record for the number of times the characters said 'Fuck')

Product placement of the future, Write your name on someone's skull plug :D
@sttate The hexagon is where the bullet entered his skull. During the intro, you see that they are implanting whatever augmentations directly onto his brain from that hole. You can't just replace your skull, I don't care what anyone says, it just can't be possible. Especially since they go into painstaking detail to ensure that every augmentation in this game is in the world of possibility. Well, except his retractable sunglasses and arm blades.
@Knifegash There's more than one hexagon, there's even an extremely large one just next to it that takes up the majority of the left side of his head.
Plus, since when where they making efforts to keep all the augments realistic? I'm playing through the beta now, while obviously some of it is possible like enhanced strength and jump height, I don't think the devs have explicitly said that they are trying to keep the augs realistic.
I have never seen this large one that you're talking about, but it would make sense that he would have one, since they had to overlay the reflex booster augs onto his brain. Despite this, the most they could do to reinforce his skull would be a plate. A complete cranium replacement is simply not feasible. The fact that details were painstakingly made like people needing to take Neuropozyne to prevent scar tissue from growing over augs, and detailed descriptions on how augs work suggest realism.
@Knifegash I wouldn't say Neuopozyne is a detail, more like a plot device, since in the beta alone there was a side mission based around it, plus it's hinted pretty heavily it will hold significance to Jensen (in a way that is a theory of mine that I won't write here for people who bitch about spoilers) as well as the rest of the world in the same way.
@sttate I'd say it is a detail that also has a bearing on the plot, but also has real-world applications. We do use immunosuppressive drugs that prevent organ rejection, in the same way that augmented people need Neuropozyne. Sure, Adam doesn't need to take the drug, but the reasoning behind that won't be known until the end of the game. They go into such mechanical detail on the augs, it seems plausible. Knowing this, I refuse to entertain the thought that he had his entire skull replaced.
@Knifegash The reasoning behind Adam not needing the Neuropozyne is pretty clear, I can guess with fair certainty that Adam is genetically modified or has been given the first experimental biomods. Remember Reed said she was sorry at the beginning of the game, and then got cut off? I think she was about to explain that to you. As well as the fact Sarif says her work is on DNA.
Also, there is a report at the LIMB clinic saying Adam heals impossibly fast, as well as the non-rejection.
@sttate How is it possible that Reed gave him biomods if they hadn't been invented for at least 40 years? If anything, he was given the precursor to nano-augmentations.
@Knifegash Anyway, you are arguing that replacing some solid with another solid is completely impossible, but you think rebuilding a brain, BILLIONS and BILLIONS of cells (some of which were probably destroyed) perfectly is feasible?
@sttate Who's to say the bullet even hit his brain? It could have penetrated his skull and went out the other side, not even coming into contact with his brain. People have survived bullets to the head before, that isn't fiction. What is utterly and ridiculously impossible is telling me that they removed his brain, stem and all, popped it into a steel or other dense metal skull just like the one he had, and then they put it back, good as new. I don't lack imagination, but I'm not stupid either.
@Knifegash I didn't say they removed the brain. Plus, you said yourself in the introduction they were working on his brain.
Plus plus, what do you think the sunglasses are attached to? If they weren't wired into him, they would need batteries (which they may if you're right, it will probably be left ambiguous though) and would leave Jenson vulnerable with holes in his skull giving weak spots, as well as anyone could just tug on them to cause him immense pain. I don't think Sarif would allow it.
Right. If you saw the intro you would see that they werent messing with his brain in a jar they were working on it from a hole in his skull, likely the same one that Namir's bullet made only made larger for medical reasons. It even shows how they 'plugged' the hole up.I already mentioned that the sunglasses dont make sense nor do the arm blades. The blades are longer than his forearms, they cannot fit in there. The sunglasses, I have no idea. I guess they come from the little devices near his eyes
@Knifegash Still, I don't think you read my comment thoroughly, I didn't say they removed his brain. And what do you think the devices for the sunglasses are attached to? Here's another little bit from my comment:
" If they weren't wired into him, they would need batteries (which they may if you're right, it will probably be left ambiguous though) and would leave Jenson vulnerable with holes in his skull giving weak spots, as well as anyone could just tug on them to cause him immense pain."
@sttate I can't address every point you make on youtube, it is extremely harrowing with just a 500 character count. Both of his eyes are augmented, why can't the sunglasses be an extension of those augs? They could be attached to the eye sockets. Where the shades come from? Beats me. But all of his augs are powered by his own brains electrical impulses.
@sttate I thought that by mentioning they were part of his eye augmentations, as well as mentioning that his brain powers the augs, that would clue you in as to what's powering them...
Anyway, then being beta nano-augmentations, they're still clearly predominantly mech-augs. Because Adam's situation is unique, that he doesn't require Neuropozyne, doesn't mean much about the rest of the public.
@Knifegash "doesn't mean much about the rest of the public" Well, it seems to be what the entore story is going to revolve around, so I would bet that it will affect the world in some way. And if whatever is up with Adam is what leads to the biomods, then it will have an effect on the public.
@sttate Everyone with the current mech-aug technology still has to take Neuropozyne. Until they update to Nano-augs, they still have to take it. This fact, is completely irrelevant to our earlier discussion whether this is realistic or not.
I wish the game didn't include bossfights. In the original Deus Ex you only had to cause the death of precisely one person, and that could be achieved by having a conversation with her. (of course also fun was to place LAMs in Lebedev's private jet so that she can't assassinate him - hell of a way to leave UNATCO). Its something I really respect about that game and it'd be good if one didn't need to kill anyone in Human Revolution. Ah well. Still looks good, though.
Nope, just Anna. You can just flee from Gunther, believe it or not, and also Simons (if you flee from him he pops up again at Area 51 leading to a hilarious exchange - "No matter where you run, Denton, I'll keep following you, like your reflection" "Then I must be one ugly son of a bitch") But that second meeting is optional, you can just walk straight past the room he's hiding in.
Technically you can do a thing and keep Anna alive too, but that's pretty much just a glitch.
It's the fact that you are forced into cover shooting combat. There is no intelligence in this fight. You can't stun Barret and stab him in the back with you giant elbow knife. You can't use a Kill phrase or something on him. You are just meant to shoot at his giant head till the cut scene starts.
I entered this fight with non lethal weapons. I had to abandon them in favour of SMG's and pistols. Fuck that.
@Timefliesbye Yep, that's a bit disappointing. I mean, I spent hours sneaking around that stupid compound, just to stay out of anything resembling a straightforward fight.
And then that monstrosity of an Aug as a boss and no sneaky or cunning way to end the battle without engaging in a firefight.
@Draco1985m You can throw barrels and gas canisters at him. But again I ask why can't I stun him and stab him in the back?
It seems such an obvious thing to do because some of us will want to play with Non-lethal weapons. You even stab him to death in the cutscene. Meaning that he is NOT impervious to bladed weaponry. Why can't I pull out my stun gun or an EMP fry his circuits and stab him in the neck 3 times to kill him?
@skytop082 No this is the Beta. This footage is from the leaked Press Demo.
The game is finished. It just isn't finished the right way. Rather than trusting the player with every option they took the augment system from Invisible War, where you can just pick up and use every weapon perfectly. Though they did remove the Shared Ammo Pool.
@Timefliesbye Well, If you just shot him with a stun gun and stabbed him for a one hit kill, it would be a bit too easy, You can still shoot him with a stun gun, and throw an explosive barrel at him, or use the acid containers. You don't need guns for this fight. Plus, It's a guy with a Chaingun for an arm, Who wouldn't want to fight him?
@skytop082 Adam Jensen would want to fight him. If only for revenge.
But here is the thing. Why can you not repeatedly stab him then? I never said it should be a one hit kill. I just said that if you saved your ammo. If you try to stun him with you incredibly inaccurate stun gun, which means letting him get close and risking a grenade to the face. You should be able to do SOME damage by being able to stab him.
He gets KILLED by you stabbing him so it makes no sense why you can't do that.
@Timefliesbye He got stabbed in the head, If Adam tries to stab him anywhere else, the blade wouldn't go through. I don't know very many people who can keep fighting after receiving severe Brain Damage.
@skytop082 Neither do I. But why can't I stab him in the head whilst he is stunned? Because the game doesn't give you that option simple as that. There is no logical reason why Jensen cannot engage in close quarters combat when he managed to stun the big bloke.
So in this entire fight there are a whooping TWO options to kill him. Throw barrels at him like Donkey Kong or fight him with weapons. The weapon itself doesn't matter seeing as Adam magically masters any weapon he picks up.
@Timefliesbye Well, this is one of those games where you need to take risks in development. You can never please everyone. Their objective when they made this was to make a game that would satisfy the Deus Ex fans, and draw in new players. Something that would please both hardcore, and casual gamers. They're trying to make the game so everyone can be able to enjoy at least one aspect of it. You might not like the boss fight, but you probably enjoyed the events leading up to it.
@skytop082 so explain to me why the original managed to please everyone? You could lure them into a trap, use the environment to kill them, defeat them without fighting at all or you could whip out the rocket launcher and blast em.
Whatever you say in their defence are just lame excuses. They overlooked a very simple fact. Deus Ex never Forced a bossfight and when you fought a boss they thought of ways for EVERY kind of character to be able to beat them.
I had to replay this fight quite a few times because of his Adam-seeking grenade spam. But then I learned that Barrett is bad at Hide and Seek. Each time the fight reloaded, I couldn't bring myself to skip this intro. That look that Adam gives him when he gets up is great.
@TheAussieStew You can actually get away from it if you have your health over 100 - but you need to run asap or he'll still finish you off in a second. But yes, that caught me off guard too because I thought I could use melee on him, not the other way around. ;c
@TheTrueHaddock Alpha build.. try beta build and the same build that they sent to get reviewed by PC gamer so no this is the real deal not some half fast semi game.
@Timefliesbye When you said that the console crowd needed a boss fight, i wanted to know what a pc crowd would expect to get differently. Or was i reading it wrong?
You ever played the original Deus Ex? With enough exploration you could have killed this boss in DIALOGUE! Talking to him would have been enough if you researched the proper things or you could have several opportunities in game to kill them in different missions.
My major annoyance however is I can't stun him and stab him in the back. This makes no sense to me cause he is vulnerable to EMP and the stungun, but you don't get a melee option.
@DecmanReturns And give money in something you don't even know if it's good? That's what demos are for. And to see if the games runs good in your computer.
Wanker.

Knifegash 7 months ago
@Knifegash I didn't say they removed the brain. Plus, you said yourself in the introduction they were working on his brain.
Plus plus, what do you think the sunglasses are attached to? If they weren't wired into him, they would need batteries (which they may if you're right, it will probably be left ambiguous though) and would leave Jenson vulnerable with holes in his skull giving weak spots, as well as anyone could just tug on them to cause him immense pain. I don't think Sarif would allow it.
sttate 7 months ago
Knifegash 7 months ago
@Knifegash Still, I don't think you read my comment thoroughly, I didn't say they removed his brain. And what do you think the devices for the sunglasses are attached to? Here's another little bit from my comment:
" If they weren't wired into him, they would need batteries (which they may if you're right, it will probably be left ambiguous though) and would leave Jenson vulnerable with holes in his skull giving weak spots, as well as anyone could just tug on them to cause him immense pain."
sttate 7 months ago
@sttate I can't address every point you make on youtube, it is extremely harrowing with just a 500 character count. Both of his eyes are augmented, why can't the sunglasses be an extension of those augs? They could be attached to the eye sockets. Where the shades come from? Beats me. But all of his augs are powered by his own brains electrical impulses.
Knifegash 7 months ago
@Knifegash And how would they draw power from his brain without being wired in? The sockets is part of the skull you know...
" If anything, he was given the precursor to nano-augmentations." That was the point I was making exactly.
sttate 7 months ago
@sttate I thought that by mentioning they were part of his eye augmentations, as well as mentioning that his brain powers the augs, that would clue you in as to what's powering them...
Anyway, then being beta nano-augmentations, they're still clearly predominantly mech-augs. Because Adam's situation is unique, that he doesn't require Neuropozyne, doesn't mean much about the rest of the public.
Knifegash 7 months ago
@Knifegash "doesn't mean much about the rest of the public" Well, it seems to be what the entore story is going to revolve around, so I would bet that it will affect the world in some way. And if whatever is up with Adam is what leads to the biomods, then it will have an effect on the public.
sttate 7 months ago
@sttate Everyone with the current mech-aug technology still has to take Neuropozyne. Until they update to Nano-augs, they still have to take it. This fact, is completely irrelevant to our earlier discussion whether this is realistic or not.
Knifegash 7 months ago
I wish the game didn't include bossfights. In the original Deus Ex you only had to cause the death of precisely one person, and that could be achieved by having a conversation with her. (of course also fun was to place LAMs in Lebedev's private jet so that she can't assassinate him - hell of a way to leave UNATCO). Its something I really respect about that game and it'd be good if one didn't need to kill anyone in Human Revolution. Ah well. Still looks good, though.

@paulbottomley42 3 people actually, Once in UNATCO, The other in the Cathedral, and the other in the Ocean Lab.

@skytop082
Technically you can do a thing and keep Anna alive too, but that's pretty much just a glitch.
;)

This is why Deus Ex: Human Revolution will fail.
Fuck that.
Timefliesbye 8 months ago
@Timefliesbye Yep, that's a bit disappointing. I mean, I spent hours sneaking around that stupid compound, just to stay out of anything resembling a straightforward fight.
And then that monstrosity of an Aug as a boss and no sneaky or cunning way to end the battle without engaging in a firefight.
That's just lame.
Draco1985m 8 months ago
@Draco1985m You can throw barrels and gas canisters at him. But again I ask why can't I stun him and stab him in the back?
It seems such an obvious thing to do because some of us will want to play with Non-lethal weapons. You even stab him to death in the cutscene. Meaning that he is NOT impervious to bladed weaponry. Why can't I pull out my stun gun or an EMP fry his circuits and stab him in the neck 3 times to kill him?
Timefliesbye 8 months ago
@Timefliesbye Then again, This is an Alpha, and at this point in the game, the fact that the game is unfinished begins to become apparent.
skytop082 7 months ago
@skytop082 No this is the Beta. This footage is from the leaked Press Demo.
The game is finished. It just isn't finished the right way. Rather than trusting the player with every option they took the augment system from Invisible War, where you can just pick up and use every weapon perfectly. Though they did remove the Shared Ammo Pool.
Timefliesbye 7 months ago
@Timefliesbye Well, If you just shot him with a stun gun and stabbed him for a one hit kill, it would be a bit too easy, You can still shoot him with a stun gun, and throw an explosive barrel at him, or use the acid containers. You don't need guns for this fight. Plus, It's a guy with a Chaingun for an arm, Who wouldn't want to fight him?
skytop082 7 months ago
@skytop082 Adam Jensen would want to fight him. If only for revenge.
But here is the thing. Why can you not repeatedly stab him then? I never said it should be a one hit kill. I just said that if you saved your ammo. If you try to stun him with you incredibly inaccurate stun gun, which means letting him get close and risking a grenade to the face. You should be able to do SOME damage by being able to stab him.
He gets KILLED by you stabbing him so it makes no sense why you can't do that.
Timefliesbye 7 months ago
@Timefliesbye He got stabbed in the head, If Adam tries to stab him anywhere else, the blade wouldn't go through. I don't know very many people who can keep fighting after receiving severe Brain Damage.
skytop082 7 months ago
@skytop082 Neither do I. But why can't I stab him in the head whilst he is stunned? Because the game doesn't give you that option simple as that. There is no logical reason why Jensen cannot engage in close quarters combat when he managed to stun the big bloke.
So in this entire fight there are a whooping TWO options to kill him. Throw barrels at him like Donkey Kong or fight him with weapons. The weapon itself doesn't matter seeing as Adam magically masters any weapon he picks up.
Timefliesbye 7 months ago
@Timefliesbye Well, this is one of those games where you need to take risks in development. You can never please everyone. Their objective when they made this was to make a game that would satisfy the Deus Ex fans, and draw in new players. Something that would please both hardcore, and casual gamers. They're trying to make the game so everyone can be able to enjoy at least one aspect of it. You might not like the boss fight, but you probably enjoyed the events leading up to it.
skytop082 7 months ago
@skytop082 so explain to me why the original managed to please everyone? You could lure them into a trap, use the environment to kill them, defeat them without fighting at all or you could whip out the rocket launcher and blast em.
Whatever you say in their defence are just lame excuses. They overlooked a very simple fact. Deus Ex never Forced a bossfight and when you fought a boss they thought of ways for EVERY kind of character to be able to beat them.
Lazy design is what it is.

But yes, that caught me off guard too because I thought I could use melee on him, not the other way around. ;c

Timefliesbye 8 months ago
@Timefliesbye When you said that the console crowd needed a boss fight, i wanted to know what a pc crowd would expect to get differently. Or was i reading it wrong?
Athanase48067 8 months ago
@Athanase48067 Yes Console crowd needs a boss fight.
