  • do u need the helicopter licence to fly this

  • how high can fly this helicopter ?

  • Saw it at Homer Bell's a few years ago. Wish all the Exec's had an Allison in them...

  • Do all rotor way helos rotors spin clockwise? That would be a little weird to get used to.

  • No, but it's not a big deal after a while. US production helicopters turn counter-clockwise (except the Exec, which is amateur built) Russian and European helicopters (except Agusta) turn clockwise.

  • I think the other motor the solar t62 was originally designed to be put in a military chopper but the program was abandoned and they used them in generators. at least thats what i thought the history was. how much is a c18?

  • @Spayne007 I realize your posted this a year ago and probably found out by now but the Solar t62 was the onboard APU for a CH-47 Chinook... I believe

  • @FJones9508 The Solar T62 was originally designed to power a small military helicopter. However, the Department of Defense canceled the helicopter development program for which it was originally designed and the Solar T62 was then used to power various APUs. But, to be clear, it was originally designed as a small helicopter engine.

  • @MBAProfessor You learn something new every day.

  • The turbine in the KISS is out of a generator. The turbine in this video is actually a 250-C18 out of helicopter.

  • I have to say, John's, helicopter is probably the best and nicest of all the Rororway helicopters I have seen. Especially since he used an Allison 250-C18 turbine engine. I am curious to know if John had to decrease the weight of the engine like has to be done with the Solar -T62T-32 in order to keep weight restrictions. Did he have to make any changes in order to decrease the weight restrictions or was their enough power from the engine that he didn't have to worry about it?

  • Turbine in that!? tight fit, to say the least...

  • i ent comin all the waay over to the us just to kiss it....

  • can anyone tell me what that buzz noise is on starting, you hear the turbine spinning up, and then a low buzzing noise, i wonder what that is.

  • the combustion start

  • great! cheers mate!

  • Actually it isn't the combustion start, it is the starter itself making that noise. It only lasts for a few seconds because you watch your N1 gauge and as soon as it hits 70% you release the starter button on the end of the collective. That is why you only hear that sound for about 10-12 seconds.

  • That chopper has a A250 on it!? Wow! Thats awesome!

  • It's real. It's a turbine. I know this guy. He's out of Oklahoma and converts these helicopters to turbine....for a price.

  • Actually the first conversions of the Rotorway 162F was done by a company called KISS in California. The Turbine engine is a surplus Turbine engine originally designed to be used in generators. Lots of them were manufactured and used by the US government. However, there was a huge surplus of these engines and originally you could purchase one for around $3500. As time went on more people purchased the surplus units and then resold them for around $8k- $12k.

  • ok forget the last post ive watched it 4 or 5 times now and think its real! sorry for the misunderstanding, i just never thought you could fit a rolls 250 in one of these!

  • its either a rolls powered rotorway or its very nicely dubbed, and you can hear a normal piston engine at the start of the video?

  • why did that sound exactly like a rolls-royce 250 series?? or is it one?

  • @JoMo91 Yep. Rolls Royce and the Allison 250 are one and the same.
