also, one more thing, don't judge the expensive locks as being bad, tools will always overcome locks because locks have a limited number of specifications: they can only be so big, science can only produce materials of a certain strength, and no matter how strong, they have to be relatively affordable...whereas tools have no limits of expansion. e.g the wire cutters can be of an unlimited length and therefore in theory produce however many lbs of force that is required
3:40 this is one of the reasons why Britain pisses me off. We used to be one of the most powerful empires in the world, and in less than 100 years the country has demised into a bunch of chavs and backless people who won't stand up for what's right (INTEGRITY)... The typical British person is far my lackadaisical than our American counterparts. Yes, they're not perfect either, but at least American's wouldn't turn a blind eye to something like this....
Same problem here in Los Angeles, spend your hard earned money on a bike and a few "good" locks and then some filthy thief steals your bike in broad daylight.
There is no way to stop your bike being stolen, as shown even the best locks can be cut like butter or someone can use an angle grinder and nobody gives a shit (be that apathy or not wanting to risk injury, which is fair enough).
All you can do is make your bike less attractive than the others parked next to it. That means a good lock or two and making sure it's secured properly. Don't have a really nice bike that locked outside for hours, just get a cheap bike.
The Kryptonite New York Lock is never opened. The chain around it is. I use a KNY Faggeddabouditt U lock without a chain and I'd have loved to see if it good enough.
so basically there is no lock that is strong enough to stop these thief. The possible solutions are : move away from london or bring your bike indoors where you work.
ye but the problem is that those ppl and the ppl who are filming it are using the cheapest lock..if they really loved there bike as much as i do or courriers do they would go out and buy a kryptonite lock i would rather spend $130 (depending your country) on a kryptonite new york forgetaboutit lock than having my bike stolen and it also depends on how the people lock it i always lock my back frame and back wheel together
@mcdumass - watch the whole video, Kyrptonite forgetaboutit lock - bust in 11 seconds.
Anyway, back wheel locked to front. No problem if determined. If it's an expensive mountain bike they may even take the components off, e.g. fork, shocks, brakes, none of which are secured.
I like the Scarlet Letter treatment for non-violent crimes.
The criminal is caught, the court finds them guilty on the basis of direct irrefutable evidence and they are found guilty.
Rather than locking them up in a facility where they can more quickly learn criminal techniques tattoo their forehead with a simple iconic emblem, that can easily be identified by the public, what this person can not be trusted NOT to do: thieving, adultery, rape, child beating, spousal abuse, pedophile.
After viewing the video, I was left in horror thinking how easy is to get robbed on daylight and in all sort of places. I was wondering some things: 1) They should put behind bars the folks that purchase the bikes on some random markets, it´s so obvious they are stolen, the law is not protecting citizens 2) Locks are mere a distraction from the point, they will break easily. 3) foldable bikes could provide a solution to the theft of bikes 4) the program did not mention bikes stolen at gun point
What a joke. A pointless sentence for that prolific offender. I've just had my second bike stolen which was locked with two locks both sold secure gold (since learned that the rating means absolutely nothing) worth £100 in total.
Scary how quickly that hacksaw got through the D Lock!

@cbfhtu68 they used to do that in the Roman empire, id like to think we as a species moved beyond that
the only thing that is going to cause is people being shunned, lose jobs and start depending on theft to keep up there living standard
