just try it, its an incredible workout. chopping wood with a full size wooden axe or spliting logs with a sledge hammer and stakes works the same way. there may be some body mechanics that it helps in too but i wouldn't know much about that

Watch the fight where he "loses". It was part of a tournament, where a winner HAD to be declared for progression to the next round. It was stopped by a deep cut that was caused by a glancing elbow a few seconds into the fight. Elbows to the face are illegal in Japan for this very reason. Normally the fight would've been ruled a no-contest, but in this case a winner and loser had to be declared. Fedor avenged this so called loss later on...and fucked that guy up pretty rough

Elbows are illegal bc people think they end far more fights than they do, tk's elbow didn't cut fedor, it reopened a cut from a previous fight, a punch or even some solid grappling probably would have done the same, that's why we don't have tourney's anymore but some people in japan seem to think elbows are bad but a tourney has no effect on fight outcomes.

I've never heard of that cut being reoponed from a previous fight, but you may be right about that. I agree about elbows...they should be allowed, and i was wrong, in that fight they are allowed as long as the fighter is wearing elbow pads. However its only common sense that an elbow cuts someone a bit easier then anything else. And it is a fact that in that fight, they simply had to have a winner and a loser for the sake of the tournament. Tournaments do effect fight outcomes.

They cut people easier but they don't end fights nearly as often as people would have you believe. I agree that tourney's affect outcome, that's why i think they are bullshit, too many times a guy had a 3 round war earlier that night and had to fight a guy who had a 30 second ko win. It's not even close to fair. For instance, fedor had to fight ricardo "the wet blanket" arona before he fought tk, tk was fresh, that was his first fight of the night. Actually he is 30-1-1, also minor correction in the Rings match, elbows were allowed however the fighter was permitted to wear an elbow pad which Fedor's opponent never wore. His opponent tried to land a punch however accidentally he missed and landed an elbow to the forehead opening a wound that stopped fedor from continuing. Since Rings was a tournament, and a fighter must advance to the next round the fight wasn't ruled a no contest, otherwise it would have been ruled a no contest.
