Where are all those coalition leaders now??Yep,Canadians showed the bums what they really thought on May 2nd by giving the Tories a majority and killing this coalition idea outright.They would have given the Tories their majority in the previous election if the snakes that were planning this coalition had of put it on the table for voters to decide on.But they just sat in the backrooms making deals until a minority government was elected,so it was an attempted coup in that way.

This is probably one of the most important messages that Rick Mercer ever gave on television. We as Canadians need to be better informed of how our Parliamentary Democracy works. Any party or government that deliberately misinforms the public with untrue statements is in my word, unfit for Parliament and unfit to govern (incumbent or not).

We should be better informed right now and in the near future, at least to respect the men and women who fought and died to retain our system.

jcjccjcj@bs.com Get Educated. We do need to know how our Parlimentary system works. We cannot trust our elected Govt. We never get told the truth, the Govt has their own agenda. Remember Govt "For the People, By the People". We must get informed and find out what our candidates stand for. And HOLD them to it.  Keep track of you MP, write to them, go to their campaign office, make them accountable. Remind them they represent you not their Party line. Vote- if you don't - don't complain.

@cathcandy I agree, but this is complex; hi-school are doing a bit of it with canadian history, social studies and national&world studies but: student don't like history (most youngster find it boring&discover some taste for it later).The others one are optional.

Also; some "kid" are asking why doing Canadian politics? IR is popular and Canada revolve around american&european center of political power.

With all that we forget the older one! Many 30+ y.o. are politically illiterate.

Why am I not surprised that John Baird would lie about our parliamentary system? He was on of the Mike Harris crew that left Ontario in a shambles. The big lie in Ontario was of course the 'common sense' revolution. Tell that to the people of Walkerton and the family of Dudley George.

I think people have become more informed, and whether or not the revised budget gets a passing grade people should be aware of how much support the coalition has, and why.

Thank you President Obama. With our prime ministers shenanigans we need all the symbols of hope we can get.

I hope Igantieff's about to be released book is very, very, very good. He's won a few awards (including a gov. generals) so at the least it should be an interesting read.

The recent Ekos poll tells us that 50 of Canadians would support the coalition and only 43 percent would support the Conservatives given the chance to choose. Why then is CBC news still telling us that Canadians are repulsed by the idea of coalition?

Even before Christmas the Angus Reid Poll told us that Layton was seen as the most trustworthy and honest, as caring about the things people believe in and by no small margin. Harper was seen as the least trusted and honest and as caring the least.

I forgot to mention something . I loved this rant . The left will be hard to get in always because that vote is divided whereas the right isnt ... I made a long rambling giving a basic understanding on coalition for people who were curious especially people my age .. it hasnt gotten many views though but still I put it out there because like Rick said alot of us dont know. What about if you factor in how long they have been working at the job? I think one cause of women making less is the fact that they are more likely to take off time to be with their kids. This is a factor we have to understand, is not based on discrimination and is instead based on cultural norms. If as many men took time off as women to stay with their kids the wage gap would definitively close.

It troubles me that we may well let Harper continue to lead out of ignorance. He attempted to erode women's right to equal pay for equal work which remains the number one goal of the women's rights movement. No wonder women don't support him. It was a symbolically terrible thing to do and economically senseless. I am ashamed we have a prime minister who would deliberately mislead Canadians and play on people's lack of understanding with fear tactics and red herrings.

My daughter wrote an essay on how Rick Mercer was the most influential Canadian of 2008. Got 94 percent on it and has entered it into a contest.

I only wish he was as influential as she thinks. Then maybe people would be more informed about politics and more interested in actually VOTING.

Democracy can't work if it's citizens remain uninformed. This highlights the importance of a balanced mainstream media. Unfortunatly, sports and entertainment corporations have taken over our news media and practically killed basic journalistic standards. Thanks for posting this vid.
