@maw88ify - you have to recompile the applications from scratch... for the most part it should be a simple 'make' and 'make install' after a few tweaks to the config and makefile scripts... yes, that is how Linux was 10 years ago. I still remember almost banging my head into the monitor trying to get my PS2 mouse and SVGA to work on Slackware 1.3 back in the very late 90's...
@hypnotix2000 I thought I'd also mention that if Oracle has not packaged a CC/GCC compiler with OpenSolaris, then forget installing, you can't even compile applications.
That's cos it also uses the Gnome DE. It's package management system is very ubuntu-esque as well.
That's kinda all - cos under the hood, it's OpenSolaris so has a different filesystem (ZFS) and, in many respects, runs a lot more stable, faster and smoother. Given most applications can be compiled to run on it, it's a really decent alternative to linux (although it is a 'nix itself, but slightly different)
@joeysneddon several months ago i loaded solaris alongside windows, but i could not get a wi-fi connection. it was installed on a 2007 hp-g60 laptop computer with 3gb ram and 250gb hard drive. the install and removal was easy but the wi-fi i could not get like i got with ubuntu linux. i suppose its a compatability issue. i wish i could get open solaris to work like the others with wi-fi, was hoping to test it. if anyone could help with advice?
bro I got a question, when you got installed the solaris os does includes the grub for many operating systms booting ????

@Greenstorm1985 How is is better ? I mean it looks exactly the same...
I tried it, and it doesn't even have a software center for easy software install...
How do you even install software ? If it's harder to use than how can it be better for the user ?
and there are no train videos on it on Youtube at all...
