  • A lot of people overlook the Bionic Commando arcade game. Sure, it was the first, but it's probably best to ignore it.

  • I totally agree with you. This game was amazing as a remake. The graphics, the soundtrack, the humor in the cutscenes... All of it epic!

  • Def want a remake of Strider. Tho didn't that happen already?

  • So i guess Legend of Zelda is the only game i could think of that actually has a swastika

  • I was wondering why Hitler was the final boss. Now i now for certain! I was 9 yrs old what did i know about world war 2. lol

  • they are finally making a sequel but this time around, you will be able to jump as well as use the arm. i guess people got frustrated with the arm. it's a nice concept but most people, well the casual gamers, don't want to bother with it.

  • Bring back the dew-rag!

  • I bought it on Steam for $5 during a sale.

The one Steam game I've regretted purchasing.

It's a beautiful remake, don't get me wrong, but I expected to atleast be able to multi online. Nope.

Combined with the fact I hated that I couldn't jump, I just uninstalled it after I had played 30 minutes.

  • @sabata2 You really should try it again. I played and beat the NES game 20 years ago. It was great then, and still is.

Yes there's no online co-op. Maybe that's something that matters to modern gamers, but as a (really) old school gamer, I've never played a single game online in my life, so I couldn't care less.

And the fact that you can't jump, it's just a part of the game. You get used to it. Learning to use the Arm is pretty much the core mechanic of the game.

  • Downloaded it only 6 pounds got it from psn its so fun

  • the game is only 6 dollars now =D

  • Capcom just has there shit down

  • I had it for my 360 and loved it. Now I'm on PS3, will have to get it again

  • Beautiful Review Man!!!

  • Nice review but I don't think "Swang" or "Reinvisionment" are actually words. :)

  • @Tyrol3 They are now! lol

  • never played it

  • Bought it and played it whole way through first day... love it!

..and love the hagelbreaker for its name :)

inte ofta en hagelbrakare får vara med

  • Back when this game came out, I played it constantly, and I saved Super Joe, got his machine gun which was awesome, and got through some of the secret areas, but then it just got waaaay too hard for me. I couldn't beat it. Then I lost my save file, so I haven't really played it much since. It's a great game though. I think the remake is even better than the original, and I have the game's soundtrack separate from the game so I can listen to those awesome modern retro beats.

  • great game and great video.

  • the arcade version of the orginal is tittaly different

  • made in spain

  • Nes is still the better game, but this was a great remake. It's a shame I can't buy it in stores. I hate buying downloadable games, cuz I can't hold them in my hands but this was a great game and the only arcade game I bought to date. Great co-op by the way. BC back in the nes has a great ending also, i'll never forget that ending especially after leaving my nes open for 24 hours lol.

  • Once i get some MS points I'm definitely going to download this, it looks so much fun and the graphics are absolutely gorgeous!

    Great Review!

    Fran x

  • this looks awesome but i don't buy download only games. i prefer to have a hard copy i can touch and own and share with friends. if your xbox or ps3 is fried or you decide to sell it, you lose all your downloaded games. stupid

  • Looks like fun. I loved the NES version and still have it in my collection.

The arcade version is pretty good too except for being nearly impossible to play through without blowing your top.

Unfortunately, I don't have a next gen system yet as I stopped after the 128-bit systems.

I still can't decide which of the current three I would choose from and to be honest I'm not really that impressed with the new systems.

However, I frequently find myself leaning toward the 360.

  • This is one of the few remakes that actually surpasses the original.Grin did a great job on this.

  • The now-defunct Grin developed Bionic Commando: Re-Armed, not Capcom.

Capcom is a shadow of its former self and this faithful remake's credit belongs to grin, not Capcom.

  • Yeah, but Grin is gone hopefully Capcom can find some of the developer to continue my highly recommended were been the 2K Games company.

  • @Resvrgam

Yeah most of the gaming companies now are no where near what they once were.....but i have to say capcom is better then most these days.

konami - outsourcing their development to the US

Nintendo - Plays to mom and grandma now

Sony - doesnt know what the hell its doing

    MicroSoft......ugh.

Sega - A horrible fall from grace....

Namco - once at the forefront of gaming, now just makes tekken and ridge racer games

Squeenix - FF and DQ thats it.

  • Wow, that looks really great. It makes me want to get a Next Gen system. The original version is my favorite NES title, hands down.

  • I've only played Bionic Commando rearmed. I really enjoyed it.

  • Nice review man!

  • I'd love to buy this, and also Mega Man 9. Only problem - I don't have a current-gen game system, and don't care to own one.

Kind of ironic you have to be a modern gamer to play these retro-games.

If Capcom would put these games on physical discs for the PS2, I'd gladly pay $30 each.

  • I agree. Or even if they had PC download versions, similar to itunes, I would be all over it.

  • The Best Thing About Megaman 9 is, it is a nes game

  • capcom needs to remake strider. maybe xbox live arcade game. i think they need to also make it an arcade /action rpg/ hack and slash. what do you think?

p.s. nice review, also you did a good job with the halloween episode, but i think you need to review resident evil: the umbrella chonicals the same way, but if you have S.T.A.R.S uniforms that might work. also have somebody dress as the tyrant. great review!!!!

  • i cant wait for the new bionic to come out on the xbox and ps3

  • wow i used to play this on the gameboy i had no idea that was bionic commando

  • just so everyone one knows there is no coop online

  • Actually this game is all made by a swedish company called Grin. This remake was a request by Keiji Inafune-san(the megaman man himself)

And it featured artwork by "Shinkiro" ,who also drew for lots of SNK titles back in the day.

  • Looked good.

  • the nes version rocks, and this one almost made me fail an entire semester...

  • Capcom rules!I'll buy this when I get some microsoft points with megaman 9 and castle crashers.

  • Capcom pretty much on a daily basis shows that they are one of the last companies that love gamers and are game fans themeselves.

  • Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Capcom games but they shut down Clover and raped fans with endless Street Fighter II sequels.

  • I watched this video review of course some time ago, and loved it of course.. great game on xbl! But I just realised a game that would also make a great addictive remake, Ikari Warriors! Do you remember that? I had it on my Amiga 500 back in the day, one of the only games I actually played with my dad in co-op and probably one of the first co-op games I can remember.. I sadly sold my amiga 500 a long time ago which was a bad move.. I still regret that so bad to this day..But yeah Ikari Warriors!

  • yeah know I beat the arcade but never plaied the nes one so this game was perfect for me!!!

  • This is one of the games that defined my childho0d. XD

  • Keep up the killer work HCG!!!

  • I dont know why western developers allow their games like medal of honor or wolfenstein to fight against Nazis but yet been so sensitive about this one?

  • damn, a great looking remake of a classic capcom game for only 9 bucks. sounds like a kick-ass deal to me

  • Great review!

  • I never played this game until today, though I do recall somehow picking up a book based on it:S but as soon as I recognized the title I downloaded it on XBL. Playing its short demo noting its awesome gameplay and music makes me instantly wnat to get the full version

  • looks awesome and cool

  • Bionic Commando Rules!!! ^^

  • looks good, capcom put a lot of effort into their games

  • If only they had done this with megaman 9. This is how you go retro. Here is a fun fact. Did you know that by the time you download all the extra crap for MM9, you've paid $39 for it. Why would they do that? Yet here we have BCR and it's updated like a motherfucker and a great remake to boot for only $10.

    Smooth move capcom.

  • The programmers messed up on ONE important thing though. In the 1988 original, Radd Spencer's grappling hook was NOT an artificial arm, it was just an attachment for one of his human arms. WHY did they do that? Why did they have to mess this up? How do you mess that up anyway? I don't even like his new design in the remake!

  • They did that because people today would go like: ''Why does he wear that fucking arm that makes him unable to jump?''

    That would be my guess.

  • Bionic commando is my favorite NES game EVER, and every single console generation after that I was saying "Hello? Bionic Commando? Super Bionic Commando? Bionic Commando 64? Bionic Commando 360? Anyone???'

So finally, after twenty long years, it's here. I'd be buying it now if I wasn't SUPER strapped for cash right now.

Oh, and "swang" is not a word, HCG.

  • Swang is a word. It's southern slang.

  • Really? what's it mean?

  • Actually slang is called slang because slang words aren't really recognized words. That's why they're called "Slang words."

  • I already heard this new game was selling well. Proof that Bionic Commando does still kick ass!

  • Nice review.

  • There are very few games these days that I get excited about and this was one of them. I downloaded it the night it was available and was blown away.

I agree with your assessment that Capcom is testing the waters and I really hope it sells well enough to warrant remaking other classics with the same level of detail.

  • just a correction, it's $10 on psn, xbl. $15 on pc.

  • Not a bad price at all... even for a PC.

In Australia, "on the shelf" games are grossly overpriced. Its nice that there are online options to get games at reasonable prices.

  • This game is a lot of fun. Even though it got the 3D face lift, the 2D game play is sooooo good (made me think of the same quality that Contra Shattered Soldier had). I hate that there's no online co-op. I love that besides the main game itself, there's all the challenge rooms to have fun with. The end fight: such a satisfying end it is. For anyone watching this vid that hasn't bought the game yet, go buy it you nerds!

  • Sadly you are correct there is no co-op online!

But god damn I wish there was!

  • I still have a lot of fun playing co-op with my brother. The split screen works really good except for the topdown part.

  • good review but did I hear you say co-op online? As far as I have read and heard there is only co-op with your friend available. it's a great game and considering to buy it for sure.

  • Yes great review. I'm gonna buy it very soon!

  • Great review dude, I'm gonna go buy it

  • I downloaded this on the pc last night. Aswome music, same great maps, new bosses. If you loved the original....this is for you.

  • good episode!! it has a spur of the moment spontaneity about it!!! and a damn cool looking remake too!! i'll have to check that out!

  • Very nice, man! This is the type of review I've been looking for. You did great! :-)

  • nice review

  • Thank you for this great review, I'm pretty sure I'll buy this game. Did Capcom release a demo as well?

  • yes there's a demo

  • thanks

  • not anymore, they took the demo down for some reason.... why?

  • That's strange. I could download it.

Just try it again, it should work at least by now.

  • what r you talking about i just downloaded it
