they are finally making a sequel but this time around, you will be able to jump as well as use the arm. i guess people got frustrated with the arm. it's a nice concept but most people, well the casual gamers, don't want to bother with it.
@sabata2 You really should try it again. I played and beat the NES game 20 years ago. It was great then, and still is.
Yes there's no online co-op. Maybe that's something that matters to modern gamers, but as a (really) old school gamer, I've never played a single game online in my life, so I couldn't care less.
And the fact that you can't jump, it's just a part of the game. You get used to it. Learning to use the Arm is pretty much the core mechanic of the game.
Back when this game came out, I played it constantly, and I saved Super Joe, got his machine gun which was awesome, and got through some of the secret areas, but then it just got waaaay too hard for me. I couldn't beat it. Then I lost my save file, so I haven't really played it much since. It's a great game though. I think the remake is even better than the original, and I have the game's soundtrack separate from the game so I can listen to those awesome modern retro beats.
Nes is still the better game, but this was a great remake. It's a shame I can't buy it in stores. I hate buying downloadable games, cuz I can't hold them in my hands but this was a great game and the only arcade game I bought to date. Great co-op by the way. BC back in the nes has a great ending also, i'll never forget that ending especially after leaving my nes open for 24 hours lol.
this looks awesome but i don't buy download only games. i prefer to have a hard copy i can touch and own and share with friends. if your xbox or ps3 is fried or you decide to sell it, you lose all your downloaded games. stupid
capcom needs to remake strider. maybe xbox live arcade game. i think they need to also make it an arcade /action rpg/ hack and slash. what do you think?
p.s. nice review, also you did a good job with the halloween episode, but i think you need to review resident evil: the umbrella chonicals the same way, but if you have S.T.A.R.S uniforms that might work. also have somebody dress as the tyrant. great review!!!!
I watched this video review of course some time ago, and loved it of course.. great game on xbl! But I just realised a game that would also make a great addictive remake, Ikari Warriors! Do you remember that? I had it on my Amiga 500 back in the day, one of the only games I actually played with my dad in co-op and probably one of the first co-op games I can remember.. I sadly sold my amiga 500 a long time ago which was a bad move.. I still regret that so bad to this day..But yeah Ikari Warriors!
I dont know why western developers allow their games like medal of honor or wolfenstein to fight against Nazis but yet been so sensitive about this one?
I never played this game until today, though I do recall somehow picking up a book based on it:S but as soon as I recognized the title I downloaded it on XBL. Playing its short demo noting its awesome gameplay and music makes me instantly wnat to get the full version
If only they had done this with megaman 9. This is how you go retro. Here is a fun fact. Did you know that by the time you download all the extra crap for MM9, you've paid $39 for it. Why would they do that? Yet here we have BCR and it's updated like a motherfucker and a great remake to boot for only $10.
The programmers messed up on ONE important thing though. In the 1988 original, Radd Spencer's grappling hook was NOT an artificial arm, it was just an attachment for one of his human arms. WHY did they do that? Why did they have to mess this up? How do you mess that up anyway? I don't even like his new design in the remake!
Bionic commando is my favorite NES game EVER, and every single console generation after that I was saying "Hello? Bionic Commando? Super Bionic Commando? Bionic Commando 64? Bionic Commando 360? Anyone???'
So finally, after twenty long years, it's here. I'd be buying it now if I wasn't SUPER strapped for cash right now.
There are very few games these days that I get excited about and this was one of them. I downloaded it the night it was available and was blown away.
I agree with your assessment that Capcom is testing the waters and I really hope it sells well enough to warrant remaking other classics with the same level of detail.
This game is a lot of fun. Even though it got the 3D face lift, the 2D game play is sooooo good (made me think of the same quality that Contra Shattered Soldier had). I hate that there's no online co-op. I love that besides the main game itself, there's all the challenge rooms to have fun with. The end fight: such a satisfying end it is. For anyone watching this vid that hasn't bought the game yet, go buy it you nerds!
good review but did I hear you say co-op online? As far as I have read and heard there is only co-op with your friend available. it's a great game and considering to buy it for sure.
A lot of people overlook the Bionic Commando arcade game. Sure, it was the first, but it's probably best to ignore it.

I totally agree with you. This game was amazing as a remake. The graphics, the soundtrack, the humor in the cutscenes... All of it epic!

I bought it on Steam for $5 during a sale.
The one Steam game I've regretted purchasing.
It's a beautiful remake, don't get me wrong, but I expected to atleast be able to multi online. Nope.
Combined with the fact I hated that I couldn't jump, I just uninstalled it after I had played 30 minutes.

Looks like fun. I loved the NES version and still have it in my collection.
The arcade version is pretty good too except for being nearly impossible to play through without blowing your top.
Unfortunately, I don't have a next gen system yet as I stopped after the 128-bit systems.
I still can't decide which of the current three I would choose from and to be honest I'm not really that impressed with the new systems.
However, I frequently find myself leaning toward the 360.

This is one of the few remakes that actually surpasses the original.Grin did a great job on this.
johnwx777 2 years ago
The now-defunct Grin developed Bionic Commando: Re-Armed, not Capcom.
Capcom is a shadow of its former self and this faithful remake's credit belongs to grin, not Capcom.
Resvrgam 2 years ago 2
Yeah, but Grin is gone hopefully Capcom can find some of the developer to continue my highly recommended were been the 2K Games company.
Angsc09 2 years ago
@Resvrgam
Yeah most of the gaming companies now are no where near what they once were.....but i have to say capcom is better then most these days.
konami - outsourcing their development to the US
Nintendo - Plays to mom and grandma now
Sony - doesnt know what the hell its doing
MicroSoft......ugh.
Sega - A horrible fall from grace....
Namco - once at the forefront of gaming, now just makes tekken and ridge racer games
Squeenix - FF and DQ thats it.
MatticusFinch1820 2 years ago
Wow, that looks really great. It makes me want to get a Next Gen system. The original version is my favorite NES title, hands down.

I'd love to buy this, and also Mega Man 9. Only problem - I don't have a current-gen game system, and don't care to own one.
Kind of ironic you have to be a modern gamer to play these retro-games.
If Capcom would put these games on physical discs for the PS2, I'd gladly pay $30 each.

Actually this game is all made by a swedish company called Grin. This remake was a request by Keiji Inafune-san(the megaman man himself)
And it featured artwork by "Shinkiro" ,who also drew for lots of SNK titles back in the day.

In Australia, "on the shelf" games are grossly overpriced. Its nice that there are online options to get games at reasonable prices.
