  • But the length of your hair depends on how much hair comes out of your scalp therefore by stimulating your scalp you get LONGER HAIR

  • Human hair grows at a certain rate, between 1/4 and 1/2 inch a month. Hair strands are dead, like shedding skin. Nothing you put ON your hair makes it grow, it only helps it to not break so much.

  • I do co-wash everyday just because I have super dry hair I think it works well for me, I don't really mess with my hair too much when I do, I air dry my hair and I wash my hair once a week.

  • i shampoo my scalp once a week, but i cowash 2 to 3 times a week.

  • my hair is waistlength now and I co-wash frequently with a silicon free conditioner. it is great for some people. Ladies, try it for yourself as most afro hair is very dry.

  • how can proteins be too much for hair?

also, what is wrong with silicones?

  • @uchiwali

i believe that silicones can coat the hair in a barrier that prevents moisture from reaching the strands. its whats u see in "volumizing" shampoo-- its simply coating hair strands in plastic hard barriers to make it stand up higher i think. well if thats not right, silicone is just one of those things that u should run from like the plague if ur trying to nourish ur hair.

  • You talk like u talkin to stupid people! Might be good info but the delivery is lame. Don't repeat unnecessarily and don't say okay, okay, okay? It's monotonous and boring.

  • that was rude 8sousou

  • I like your hair!

But can you show us how you wash and set your hair?

U never show those on camera.

  • i wash every 6 days little greasy like minamal dirty greasy bbbbaaaaddddd

  • you sound jamaican a little!!

  • Doesn't shampoo was your hair though, wouldn't only co washing it still make it dirtyand also is co washing the same as wash n go?

  • 3 words...love u shima.

  • Will the co-washing take out all the oil build up. I have curly hair that I can wet and let dry but I add oils to tame the frizz; If I just do the co-wash will it clean my hair?

  • For natural ladies, Herbal Essences totally twisted is amazing!!!

  • @ShortyOh5 I love that product it works so well for my hair

  • Thanks for the video! I appreciate the dialogue.

I have been co-washing for a few weeks now...i have relaxed hair and so i either air dry or roller set...havent used heat in over a month.

  • I wash my hair once a week should I do once every two weeks????

  • I don't do co-washing because conditioner isn't made to stay long in your hair unless it's a leave in conditioner.

  • @alexusoneal21 the conditioner is not left in you rinse it out. It just replacing your shampoo. Most shampoos on the market strip afro hair. Afro hair requires moisture.

  • @missVeemack I agree with you in regards to the poos that are on the market. The shampoos that are made for naturally straight hair like Suave, etc are not good for our hair. Most poos aren't made with our hair in mind. That's why I like Creme of Nature and similar shampoos that have a lot of moisturizers in them. And I also agree with alexusoneal21 about the co-washing. I don't do it either. But I guess it's working 4 many.

  • @alexusoneal21 its fine to leave in the conditioner if you plan on washing it out the next day anyway. i co-wash every other day, and the conditioner (even if its not a leave in) never damage my hair, just makes it softer and more managable.

  • @alexusoneal21 And I also agree with alexusoneal21 about the co-washing. I don't do it either. But I guess it's working 4 many.

  • sulfate-free or not, shampoo leaves my hair feeling dry, so I like to limit it to once a month or so.

  • you can always air dry your hair. I did that mostly

  • I wash my hair with a mixture of amla and shikakai powder combined with coconut milk. Afterwards I rinse with ACV or cooled green tea, and use shea butter and brands like Qhemet and Oyin to moisture my hair.

It's the best thing ever, better than any shampoo or conditioner I've tried before. I will never go back to shampoo again!

  • There are now shampoo's out there that do not contain sulfates I prefer these to co-washing.

  • I work out almost daily and I have to wash my hair everyday but I do put oils in it afterward. I will do more co washes instead of washing. I can also follow with a diffuser, I have to due to the cold weather setting in. I always get sick sleeping or going outside with wet hair. Always never fails.

  • OOHHH OK just saw your comment about you actually trying it out (Wen) i made that comment before i actually read all the comments sorry, it's nice to know that it's BULL SHIT, I guess it's a miracle in a bottle MY ASS !!! (_l_) <--- <--- <--- [ That's an ASS, in case your wondering ] I wonder how many people actually fell for it, i knew it was to good to be true that's why i never bought it but I always wondered thanks for letting me know :)

  • Dove Moisture Therapy shampoo and conditioner is the brand I use. It makes the comb slide through my hair like butter. i just wash with the shampoo and use the conditioner rinse the conditioner out then i take about 3 quarters size and put it back into my hair and just leave it in. And i wash mines at least twice a week sometimes 3 depending on how much I've been sweating.

  • I use Nature's Gate Herbal Conditioner and have been using it for over 12 years. I leave my conditioner in and it is great. I love the ingredients. I would never leave an unnatural conditioner in. A lot of those the conditioner do not have great ingredients. I usually cowash in the summer everyday and let it dry naturally. But I am not doing protective hairstyle and washing about once a week. No heat, just two strand twist and out the door...

  • I use castille soap, grapeseed oil, and a little moisturizing instant conditioner. I hate shampoo so I make my own.

  • I cowash my hair. I use shampoo like once a week. no more than twice a week.

  • Is cowashing what the WEN cleansing conditioners claim to do? I just saw something about this product line that doesn't make shampoo because shampoo strips hair.

  • wen doesnt do what it's supposed to do

  • Do not use Wen, that stuff isn't worth the money. I brought it, used it.. the almond mint one and was not impressed.

  • I was looking at Wen shampoo too i was wondering if it really makes your hair as manageable as they say it does. I'm a skeptic but an open minded one however I'm just not so open my brains are falling on the floor. if you ever try it or know of any one that does let me know how it really works K

  • Design Essentional Moisture Retention shampoo will NOT dry out your hair. I have tried a LOT of shampoos and this one is by far the best. My stylist sells it at her salon, but I never see it at stores. You may have to order it online, but it is soooo worth it.

Also before shampooing hair, put conditioner of the ends of the hair, i wish i knew this tip years ago!

  • My mom used to wash my hair with mayo when I was younger and she'd use the apple cider vinegar as a conditioner. I haven't used it in a while but I really like Dove Intense Therapy for Damaged Hair. I use the conditioner too and I really like it. My hair always feels kind of dry after washing it though. I guess my hair just absorbs moisture like that. I use S-Curl as a moisturizer afterwards and it does wonders for my hair.

  • this video was great!..i wil definitly add this to my favs

  • Vo5 and hebal are really good

  • Thanks so much. sorry for the delay in my reply but I haven't been on youtube in over a week lol x

  • Care to share the recipe..I am sick of shampoo stripping out my hair lol

  • i never use a blow drying i let my hair air dry because my hair drys quickly :)

  • Im gonna try it

    I trust u

So imma try it. . .

  • I am relaxed and I cowash once week with NO problem! I don't comb while cowashing (only on wash days) since relaxed hair is more fragile than natural hair. It has attributed to my length as well as keeping my hair moisturized in between wash days. Patience

  • I cowash daily with my natural hair and it has helped my hair reach my armpit. You just let the hair dry naturally in a bun or puff so NO HEAT is necessary. It really has a lot of benefits, I highly recommend it.

  • I agree. I was co-washing a few years ago & didn't even know what it was called then.

I had shampoo but for some reason, I just rarely used it.

  • It's WONDERFUL to know that Co-Washing has been benefitting alot of you ladies. Again if you can handle, the washing, drying, styling process two, three, times a week (even everyday) and your hair is actually growing then more POWER to ya!!!!

  • I co-wash my hair twice a week and it works well for my hair. Why do you think that you have to use a dryer? My hair is natural and thick and I don't use one.

  • i have natural hair, so the co washing works best for me..

  • I don't know about relaxed ladies, but for naturals co-washing is the easiest, quickest, and most low maintenance/manipulation hairstyles there is! Simply co-wash hair in shower and give it a hard shake to define curls and get rid of excess water. If you choose, you can add glycerin, aloe vera gel, oil or whatever ur hair likes to tame frizzes and lock in moisture. That's it!

But make sure not to do this on a cold day like I did or you will come down with a serious cold. Best for summer

  • I most def agree. I've done this for years!!

  • @aprilshowersb25 Girl, how you catch a cold ? - Its cold where i live, snowing, and I did a co wash and i'm not sick.? well yet lol.

  • Cool video, I like hearing your views on things. I like to cowash with V05 Elixirs, which I think are only sold in UK, but they're nice though.

  • Hey Shima, co-washing does work! I do it daily and once or twice a week I shampoo & deep condition personally I like suave humectant I cannot use the others my hair is very fine and the suave humectant seems to be the perfect balance of protein & moisture...

  • i co-wash everyday because my hair gets heavy, but i think im gonna do it like twice a week now because i think its too much

  • When my hair was relaxed I didn't co-wash either. After I did the BC I decided to give it a try. I love co-washing now and it helps keep my curly hair moisturized.

  • Lol @"badgyrl310"...you and me both lol

  • Co washing is aight I guess. Like Shima, I only did it cause I ran out of shampoo. I wasn't really all that impressed with the results or whatever (my hair didn't really feel "clean" to me). But maybe it was just that cheap ass Suave conditioner I used lol.

  • You should use a clarifying conditioner if you want that really clean feeling

  • Most of the ladies who co-wash put their hair in a ponytail or bun. No heat required and its actually really quick and easy. Co-wash, leave-in, pull it back. Great for the summer....

  • I only co wash ( I didnt know that was what I was doing but whatever-hehe) but I have to wash with shampoo once a week ( no more, no less) because I have an oily scalp even though the hair itself is drier. My scalp gets all oily, but I can last longer than a week but I just dont like to

  • lol abt running out of shampoo..that happened to me in college.. i loved the way my hair felt but i thought it was dangerous at the time...silly me.. my hair loves it & I'm back to like 90 percent co-washing.

  • if your hair is relaxed and you co wash just do bantu knots of put your hair in braids then let it out in the morning im relaxed and i cowash once a week :)

  • Very informative Shima !! Thank you !! I have a question: After using the conditioner for washing the hair. Can you do a deep conditioning ?? Thank you in advance

  • Lol Shima ur soo funny..I love ur personality. Thanks soo much 4 taking the time out 2 discuss "cowashiing" the hair. I've never tried it, but Im thinking of doing it once a week. I wash my hair once a week so during the middle of the week I just may try this routine. Lol, by the way, I always use the COLDEST water possible when rinsing out my conditioner..I look so crazy in the shower when I stepped forward but lean my head back as far as I can so that the freezing water won't freeze me lol.

  • lmao you and me both girl, I try not to let that cold ass water touch nothing but my hair. I'm so glad nobody's in the bathroom w/ me to see me, I know I look crazy lol.

  • What?!!! No, no, no...cold water is our friend! I read a magazine 'beauty tips' article decades ago that claimed European women swear by cool water; that cold water is great for keeping your breasts perky.

Maybe it works because I believed it, I don't know. But my husband can vouch for the results. ;D
