He uses a custom made Ibanez he has the closest you can get to is an ART200 its not the same, it doesn't have EMG's but thats about as close as you'll get
Quick question, when they play the chorus does Phil use a pitch shifter again, or do they both actually harmonize? I'm referring to when they play it live by the way.
@slipknotxpaulxgrey If I knew how to tab, I would. I can make a video lesson sometime in the near future though, I learned the whole song, and converted the drop D Guitar Pro tab for the solo only, I watched the music video and corrected the parts that I could see.
Hey guys, just wanted to tell you that if you buy the powerless rise deluxe edition it comes with tabs to every single song on the cd, in both guitar pro and pdf format. I got the deluxe edition not knowing this and was blown away. Just to make sure, i rewatched this vid, and the tunings, and playings match up. If you want to learn the songs right, def buy it, a little pricy, but its def worth it in my book.
@sonicx2218 The problem is the song is mixed so well for the intro and layered very tightly.ITS VERY HARD TO HEAR BY EAR that they use DGDFAD tuning. I love this song tho
@sonicx2218 tabbers might be wrong, but some have a nice sense of how different notes are on different strings, i first learned this song from this video, but i also know it by a tabbers point of view because it's tabbed in the same note/different strings on dropped D tuning, nowhere near as hard as the real way, but to me there is no right or wrong way, nothing has to be perfect or exactly the same as the band itself, we aren't the band so we dont have to play exactly like them :)
emgs are decent but they dont have that rich tone you get from passive pickups. emgs have great response time for fast picking, drop tuning, and of course palm muting. But check out Bare knuckle pickups, they are expensive but they are superior to emg's in everyway. hot wound passive pickup>emg.
That's a very good melody that they composed in Parallels! On another note, I won't ever get people complaining about EMGs sounding too sterile and how they don't reflect the tonal qualities of woods. First, not everyone has the money to afford different guitars with great sounding woods and EMGs actually provide a solution on that aspect. Second, if you want something warmer, you can always try the 18-watt mod on classic EMGs or just go with the newer X series or try Seymour Duncan Blackouts..
@MyEverConstantSmile Nick and Phil are unbelievably consistent when it comes to playing live. If you closed your eyes and listened you'd think you were in the studio.
Very good players, they play some very complex stuff, very fast. its pretty sweet and original. and the emgs, have their place in some types of music. metal players like a pick up thats punchy and dynamic, as well as very syncopated rhythms. emgs typically provide the best for that style.
its also stupid to judge them as player, based on what you would do differently. dont judge, enjoy their music if you like it, or stfu.
im pretty sure that ninety percent of people who bash emg's only bash them because someone else said they sucked and theyre too dumb to form their own opinions :p
@biloxi1314 "EMG's in a PRS... =("--this comment got 53 thumbs up for a reason. I've played those things in an SG, a few ESP's and Schecter's... Always sounded the same.
@tenhundredkills Thats funny, cuz they seem to work great for alot of really well know guitarists. Such as As I Lay Dying, Phil has great sound. They have killer tone on cd and live
@jonathonlafond The thing is that EMGs make ok guitars sound good and great guitars sound good. If you like that tone, that's your thing, but that tone gets old after a while.
@biloxi1314 or that they want to seem cool and different and alternative because a lot of people use them and they like to think they know better. sort of person who when asked if they like les pauls they would say 'no they suck' just because a lot of guitarists have them so they have to have something different to be better.
to bullet point what im saying: they are peen arses!
I don't understand why everyone has to bash on emg pickups, if there was something better out there for playing metal people would be using it. Not saying other pickups don't sound good, but most metal bands don't use emg's because they suck, lol, they use them because TO THEM they sound good.
@9MAGGOT4LIFE The main problem with EMG's, is that every guitar with EMG's sounds the same. They pretty much suffocate the natural tones of the woods used in the guitar. I play Spector basses (Europe and higher models), and you can't tell the difference in tone between 2 basses if one was made with Swamp Ash and the other of Buckeye Burl. Granted EMG's do offer some of the best tonal palates available, you're not hearing any of the PRS's "Thick tone."
@guitarplayer1116 Most metal, hardcore or whatever heavy bands that have good tone don't actually use a lot of distortion on their guitars because when you add in all the other instruments and vocals too much distortion makes you sound like mush and you loose clarity.
@prenner111 you also neglected to mention the fact that you originally were mistaken in that I wasn't commenting on the "metal"ness of the guitar, rather the pick ups in the guitar.
@mattluvsvox921 I reckon EMGs have gone through that backlash reputation thing. They where raved about at one point, now everyone hates them. They sound better than many passives imo (not all, and i do prefer passives overall). Essentially theyre similar to using an overdrive pedal. Everyone still raves about ODs.
