  • I love tripping to this song!! I can literally feel it inside me. I can't stop myself from smiling whenever I hear it :D

  • God, How I love this album. :)

  • Piper is a classic album, and this is my personal favorite on the album.

  • There's another song (probibly more) called ' A bunch of small animals grooving together in a cave with a pict ' .

  • I hate everybody in my genoration. take me back to these yearsssss!

  • i hope this is about weed cuz that makes me love the floyd that much more :)

  • Does anyone else always end up making the sound at 0:37 every time you listen to this song?

    "Lazing in the foggy dew...(hoo-hoo)..."

  • @residualbill Rofl!!! Yes, I whistle that sound without fail EVERY time. SO hilarious you asked! XD

  • sitting on a unicorn :)

  • what is the song where syd starts slow motion "beat-boxing" and every1 makes animal chants IDONT KNOW THE NAME OF THE DAMN SONG 8{

  • @samruiz0000 pow r toc h

  • @samruiz0000 Pow r toch h

  • @BrettCirca kool thanx =)

  • Brian Wilson (of the Beach Boys) and Syd were pretty much on the same wave length. Go listen to Beach Boys Smiley Smile (songs like Vegatables, She's goin' bald, Gettin Hungry, etc), and you'll see exactly what I mean. I would doubt if either artist was influenced by each other. Both from 67' too..

And both artists OD'd on acid as well...Although, the hangers on's were literally SPIKING LCD in Syd's food and/or drinks. I would have had thrown those assholes in prison for doing that.

  • 331 heppy i can you pu smelly jelly ever so high syd you did it ole boy what s abijy sdf

  • Its... so... trippy

  • at 2:26 Syd and Rick mix up the lyrics..One says "hear" the other says "see"

  • @MrMadcapLaugh It's not there in the mono version. Plenty of stereo mixes in the 60's were just quickly-done, rough mixes that record labels required as a marketing thing. Many of those mixes left in mistakes that the engineers wouldn't bother editing out, and the band wouldn't care about the stereo. This is true for albums by The Beatles, Bob Dylan and many others until about 1968.

I think it's minor compared to the missing effects on Syd's vocals, but good ear. And such a pure, innocent song!

  • @TheOneartist thank you for the excellent explaination. I appreciate your comments and thank you for not assuming I was being harsh or disrespectful. My intensions were not to disrespect the song, the band, or the recording engineers. Hats off to you and salute. and yes such a pure and innocent song it is!

  • @MrMadcapLaugh Oh no, not at all. And this particular thing is minor, too, considering the number of missing effects and overdubs throughout the album, and Pow R Toc H's timing issue, for example.

Nah, it was just some amateurs or something that did this mix. The whole album was mixed in like 8 hours or so. A lot of effects and final edits and fine tunings were done on the mono mix. Piper is the worst stereo mix, in fact, I've heard. I doubt Syd has even heard the stereo mix.

  • Yippeee!

  • every single person is insane. you should learn that. now every single person isnt insane. you see everything varies from the "average" which is simply another point of view that may make sense to you in another location.

  • Sitting on a unicorn.

  • Everyone watching this, I recommend you look up the mono version on YouTube. It's way more psychedelic and trippy. There's effects on Syd's vocals that are missing in the stereo version of Piper.

  • @TheOneartist thats a little counter-intuitive...

  • @charlesskf How so?

  • Syd, you creative crazy

  • My Zune is named Syd Barrett.

  • i want to lie on an iderdown!!!! and laze in the foggy dew! whilst sitting on a unicorn thumbs up if u agree!!!

  • I just watched this video from coming back home after watching Roger waters The Wall, Tour. And watching this just makes me feel Sad For Him.

After Wish you Were Here Floyd was pretty Much over

  • This is so awesome!

  • GREAT GREAT tune!!! Great when STONED!!

  • Doe 'eiderdown' have some hidden meaning? it was mentioned on the SF sorrow album by the pretty things too...

  • @surrealistBeat97 The Pretty Things used that word, too? Haven't listened to them, yet.

I didn't know this word until I heard it from Pink Floyd, as well. Literally, it means the down feathers from an eider duck, which are supposed to be really soft and used for pillows and quilts.

Roger also used this word in the song "Julia Dream" (which, to be honest, I think by using that lyric he was trying to copy Syd at the time), and also in the song "A Pillow of Winds" from Meddle.

  • 1:31 1:32

  • It's too bad you can't find trippy clothes like those anymore, man.

  • @ternak001 Op shops mate

  • @ternak001 But you can make them :)

  • @ternak001 I know, right? Those clothes are wicked.

  • @chotchcas

You can't deny it man, he did go a bit crazy.... I mean walking into a studio completely shaved isn't something a "sane" person would do. I guess he was just too much of a genius for his own good that he went a bit off the chart.... He was crazy alright, but then again who isn't a little insane?

RIP SYD BARRET. YOU ARE A LEGEND

  • @pein05 'who isn't a little insane?' Unfortunately, most modern musicians, we need some more of this.

  • RIP SYD. YOU WERE A TRUE PRODIGY!!!!!

  • richard wright really did some brillant psychedelic keyboard playing on that first lp. you completely hear how enjoyed that songs to play

  • @chotchcas you are an idiot, you make it sound like he was an LSD addict, that is something which is completely unheard of. LSD is not addictive physically at all.

  • Syd Barret was the best fase of Pink Floyd!!!!

  • No one like SYD THE GENIUS.

  • @yoyo3man syd is genius mad and stupid but is my favourite psychedelic artist i don't like pink floyd but the first album with syd is one of my favourites

  • @noelreverberation I don't know if he was stupid, i don't think so...surely he was a genius.

  • 7 people aren't ever so high

  • ever so high

    anyone wanna make some music?

  • holy shit im 14, and everyone at my skool does pot. i try to to try things different. i did lsd, aqnd i love it. but the second timne i did it, it was terrifying everyones faces started streching out, and it was really creepy. then i thought i saw an annaconda coiled up on my bed. the funny thing is, at the foster home i live at, all the teachers there and the caretakers were hippies, and one of the caretakers was using it and me and my friend stole some, and listened to this,n shine on

  • @chotchcas yes, he was insane. we all are, really

  • English the best ever!

  • Che fantastica canzone!

  • lol

  • @Dgamer21 How does a 'huge fan' of Pink Floyd not like their first, and arguably one of their best albums?

  • @Dgamer21 Not surprising, this stuff is way different because Syd Barret was part of it, rather than just inspiring it.

  • @Dgamer21 What the FUCK man. Show some respect.. to practically the VOICE of the Floyd...

  • @elmwag08 Look I'm just saying the singing in this song is kind of corny but really catchy. I don't mean no disrespect. honest. Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands of all time.

  • @Dgamer21 BUT YOU SAID IT WAS AWFUL, Pink Floyd isn't just one genre.. but it's mostly psychedelic..

  • cool I'm the 100,000th visitor. What do I win? You mean I get to listen to a great Pink Floyd song. That's Awesome!!!!!

  • this record is AMAZING! so beautiful is the floyd's music!

  • I think Syd Barrett was bloody excellent in Pink Floyd, he had so much skill and talent it is a bloody shame that he is now dead and gone. I wish I was as rich as he was, also Rick Wright is dead and gone too they were two very talented and very rich men. I love Syd's song chapter 24, some of pink floyd's songs are to me science fiction like and also they would have been good used in Blake's 7, Dr Who and also Star Wars. It is a shame Syd and Rick are both dead and gone, but we all die one day

  • this album is so wierd (in a good way).

  • Syd sounds so light and happy. Not insane at all.

  • @Lacunamoto I coundnt agree more!

  • @Lacunamoto he was not "insane" -- he was gifted little roger barrett, lying on an eiderdown, sitting on a unicorn .... and the world around him was unrelaxed moneycounting rubber souls to him, and so he disappeared for a while ... sounds only like "insanity" to uninspired moneycounting rubber souls to me.....

that is my version in short

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • EW

  • I really love early Pink Floyd...

    R.I.P. Syd & Rick

  • I love Pink Floyd when they were with Syd. Damn it if only Syd had stayed sane

  • Definately the best album song of the 60s Legend has it that when the beatles had just finished sgt peppers lennon asked mcartney who this group was!.And after listening to them for 30 mins lennon supposedly went back to the studio and opened up sgt peppers and put in one or two ideas from syd-b's brilliant lyrics back into sgt peppers

  • @john1bundyboy i said no no no your wrong. the lads all had their own individual LSD inspirations

  • That was the best CD from Floyd...

  • That was the best Cd from frloyd...

  • What's with the scream right at the end of the intro?

  • first time ive ever heard this song... my response: ill have what hes having.

  • @SpaceAgeNinja LMAO!

  • Hey Ho here we go ever so high!

  • 1:30 to 2:16 my favourite bit.

  • Just noticed both 2nd line and syntax "Lying on an eiderdown" and "Lighter than an eiderdown" cheers

  • Is it just me, or do alot of early Pink Floyd songs reference "eiderdown." Maybe it's because it's such a cool word.

  • @AverageBudgetFilms Hadn't noticed before ~ Yes! Wonder if Syd had influenced Roger on Julia Dream.

  • This song is so... magical

  • @FuckYourself15 Well put!

  • @FuckYourself15 GOOD FUCKIN' POINT .. SO THESE FUCKING ,FUCKS CAN KEEP THEIR FUCKING HANDS TO THEIR SELF .............LOL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @FuckYourself15 go fuckyourself or something

  • @SpaceAgeNinja fuit fuit siting on a unicoooooooorn :D

  • groovy baby

  • PF's best.

  • Gosh! What a mess some people do... mixing Lady F*** Gaga and Pink Floyd. These are probably some freaking teens who are and never will be able to understand what good music is. Please, shut the f*** mouth up! This stuff is for grownups... Wow! I wish I could have lived those good years. Great archive! Congrats from Brazil!

  • Who gives a shit about lady gaga.. this type of music has nothing to do with her(his) stuff. Different genres all togther. So shut up.

  • @qqqCYBERLEADERppp Darkside is not one of the best FLoyd albums, it just got the most exposure.. the Best Floyd Albums are (no particular order) Piper, Relics, The Wall, Animals, Momentary Lapse, the Division Bell, Wish you were here etc.

  • @nikesvvoosh

There can only one "best" you douche

  • I don't like most of the music or what ever it is now - a - days but we are all gonna have to face it that nothing ever stays the same. No matter how good it is. Nothing gold can stay. Now forget about what we hate and keep in mind what we love. Maybe in a couple years there will be another psychedelic generation. You never know.

  • To me Piper is great because it showcases Syd and Rick the most musically. I always felt that Syd really liked Rick just as David liked Rick. He was great to write music with because he wasn't only easy to work with he had genius ideas on how to expand the writer's piece.

  • love love love love

i just love it so much. makes me feel so nice, ya know? sort of surreal, fairy-tale like. that's what Syd era floyd reminds me of. and gosh, i love every single bit of it.

  • I BET ITS GREAT SLEEPING ON A DANDOLINE

  • absolutely joyful

  • fucking love this song, oh i can hear the lsd in here

  • I know I'm gonna get raged at for saying this, but I honestly prefer Piper at the Gates over Dark Side

  • @qqqCYBERLEADERppp Comparing Roger and Syd is like comparing George Orwell and Lewis Carroll. They are both great in their own ways.

  • @SRone45 That's actually an amazingly good analogy. I salute you :D x

  • @SRone45 they even mark different fases of the band the psychodelic and the progressive

  • They weren't droping acid, they were diving in pools full of it.

  • @andrefreakincreator

i agree and this is just how they make there incredibly talented music

  • My favourite Pink Floyd song _(atm)_

  • *____*

  • Travelling by telephone.... is this the only popular recording which features a cuckcoo(Cuculus canorus) ?

  • This eats Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for breakfast. Sorry John. This is vastly more trippy.

  • @fungusdude1 Yeah tell me about it. I grew up listening to Sgt Pepper, thinking it was the most far-out thing (and it is, to be fair) then I heard this.

1967, what a year for fantastic innovative music!

  • @fungusdude1 seconded :D

  • me and my best friend, whom i consider my brother, used to sit up late at night, stoned, and have deep conversations about this song. love the good times i've had

  • you see, the reason why pink floyd is my favorite band, is because they use the same tech. as all the other electric type bands during the sixties, but unlike the other bands, pink Floyd’s song are beautiful. Infact, everything about the band is like a fairy tale.

  • such a beautiful song i mean it syd barret always great

  • Watching buttercups cup the light...and then comes bells...just close your eyes

  • BUTTACUPS!

  • @DanielJoseDiego, ok..

  • This music is so dreamy and never fails to put me in a good mood. =) I play it at 4 in the morning while I get ready for work and man, that just sets me up for the day. I swear I walk around the rest of the day with a smile on my face, playing this music in my head. xD Floyd = the best.

  • along with jugband blues one of my favourite old floyd tracks, classic... rip syd i will always love you

  • Such a shame a talentless life-form like Lady Gaga is mentioned in every other great rock n roll video here on YouTube.

  • Watch the new video about Pink Floyd:

    [Youtube] /watch?v=umPJZMs_2XE

  • Watch the new video about Pink Floyd:

    [Youtube] /watch?v=umPJZMs_2XE

  • @FM18Eliseo, possibly.

  • This almost like a "Yellow Submarine" or Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" type of song, I love it!

  • @BigRockMusicFan Maybe better

  • @BigRockMusicFan Pink Floyd > the beatles.

  • @DanielJoseDiego MAN!!!, i don't know why always the people makes Comparisons of the greatest bands... Beatles is Beatles... Floyd is Floyd, Zep's y Zep's, Queen is Queen, etc... etc... They all are legends!!! Each one with his style and rithm...

    DAMN IT!!!

  • @nomevoyamonte Well,, there IS such a thing as good bands, great bands, and then there's the LEGENDARY BANDS!! category to which Pink Floyd and Beatles belong to. =). Just me, personally, i don't like Queen, and I really don't fancy much of the Beatles work, but that's just me. I'm not, however, saying they suck or anything.

  • @DanielJoseDiego ok well u not fancying the beatles is sort of against the rules

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 No it's not. Pink Floyd represented all that is cool and awesome while the Beatles represented,,,, well.... massive crowds of screaming girls.. that's pretty much it. xD

  • @DanielJoseDiego if u new anything, ud no the beatles stopped touring in 65 so from rubber soul on there were no crowds no screaming girls just pure talent and even wen they did tour which didnt happen that much throughout their career they had crowds who didnt, pink floyd drew huge crowds im sorry the early 60's brought cute girls to the beatles concerts. ur an idiot. im not taking shit away from floyd..ther amazing im seeing roger waters in november

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 Whats all the arguing about fellas, they were both equally great British bands, and is all there is to it!

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 @andyourbirdcansing64 Pink Floyd was not around during the early 60's. The only idiot is you thinking that with your half ass jumble of nonsense which more than half I don't understand (you should really improve your grammar).

  • Pretty stupid of you thinking that you can make me change my mind about Pink Floyd and like the Beatles more. It's because of arrogant moronic fans of theirs like YOU that I prefer NOT to like them. Understand? I don't want to be associated with retards like you. sorry.

  • @DanielJoseDiego hahaha ok ur fucking weird...pink floyd is a don lets get that straight..im listening to them now. does the label, Lennon-McCartney not mean anything to you? ur the retard and like im sure every beatles fan is arrogant and moronic... david gilmour and paul and pals theyve done concerts and worked in abbey road across the hall sgt peppers/dsotm ur opinion is not well thought of and roger waters would hate u for wat ur saying i can promise u that

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 gilmour and paul are pals*

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 Pink Floyd is a don? WTF are you rambling on about. Lay the fucking crackpipe down a while son. xD. Who the hell is saying the band members don't get along or anything.? IS IT A FUCKING CRIME FOR ME TO SAY I LIKE FLOYD BETTER THAN BEATLES?.. geez.. Go with the masses, follow the bandwagon, as you wish, I'll stick to Floyd and you to the Beatles or whatever you guys want.

  • @DanielJoseDiego y are u getting so worked up. i was merely pointing out the respect that both of the bands had for eachother. and i laughed wen u said im a bandwagoner.. im far from that and ur making fun of me saying pink floyd is a don which is like saying ther a boss but then u tell me to "lay the crackpipe down"? thats sucha gay thing to say. if u like and respect pink floyd as much as i do then u would respect ther opions which is liking the beatles everyone reading this is on my side

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 Dude you are the king of run on sentences without a doubt. Seriously, leave the faso a bit, it'll do you wonders. =)

  • @DanielJoseDiego i couldnt care less about using a run on sentence in a youtube comment. ur a fag for only being able to come back at me that way... so im right? ik i was from the start u wer just too retarded to realizee that

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 Well it sure would help me understand whatever the fuck you're trying to say.. xD. lmaoooooooooo.. I feel like I'm arguing with my 7 year old kid. hahahaha.

  • @DanielJoseDiego well im not being confusing... so again ur retarded and give up because ur wrong. u again cannot come back at me so u make up that im being hard to understand. if u feel like ur arguing with ur 7 yr old kid then good for him because hes a hell of a lot smarter than u are.

  • @andyourbirdcansing64 Only when you write less than 10 words do I understand you. It seems your brain cannot process anymore than that. HAHAHHAHAHA. lil' fag boy =P

  • @DanielJoseDiego do u get that im not being confusing at all. you are using more than 10 words and i can understand u...dont say because ur not retarded like me or something childish like that...ur a father cmon now. becasue u are pathetic and u that u are wrong, uve changed this arguement to how confusing im being instead of the original arguement. i win. have fun losing arguements to ur 7 yr old

  • CHECK OUT MY COVER for this song!

  • The "cuckoo" sound fits Syd perfectly. xD Odd and amazing song all in one.

  • Yippie! You cant see me but I can you...

  • @dantheman163 "Traveling by telephone!

  • Oh great! Unicorns and dandelions! And koo-koo! But where have the Tetubbies gone, I wonder?

  • i love all floyd, from syd to roger to david.. and i think they are all equally as great.. but damn look at those clothes style terrible style LOL

  • Come on, I'd totally flaunt down the streets like that.

  • I'm gonna get shit on for this comment, but in my opinion 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn' was a little too pop-y for my liking. Even though I do like Lucifer Sam.

  • @SenorPabloHerrera pop? I don't think so. it's a psychedelic song because seems a nursery rhyme: it makes happy because you remember when you were little. Great! ^^

  • ....why was lady gaga even brought up?

  • Because she is this generations Madonna clone?

  • @MrBarackObonga

The question we should be asking..Does this kind of music creatively even come within a light year of Gaga's genius? The answer is obviously an emphatic "no".

I doubt anyone will disagree with me there...

  • @ScenesFromPalacio lol you either are obviously retarded or just love to troll

  • @ScenesFromPalacio Actually most rabid Lady Gaga fans with an ounce of intelligence or an ounce of respect wouldn't even make a comparison.

Gaga's lyrics are mostly simple, and while PF has songs with simple music and lyrics, they manage to convey a much more deeper message

The thing is, PF time was WAY before LadyG time, and music has changed and evolved, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't appreciate u saying those things to PF, as they are like the founders of weirdness, something she is fond of.

  • @iRockYouRock67 this kind of stuff still exists, its just labeled as indie... check out animal collective :0 kinda a modernized version sans the whole band thing...
