For almost every animal test there is somewhere between 2-7 slightly more expensive or more complicated alternatives. It's just human laziness. Just take the case of Britches (google him) for the tests he suffered the results could have been redeemed from studying blind human infants.
I can't say if there is absolutely a way to proceed with Medical Science without animals, but there are steps to lessen impact. Computers have really changed the field in terms of what is possible with modeling and avoiding unnecessary repeats. Ending the use of medical experiments on animals for the sake of consumer products is another step in the right direction. Minimizing the amount of vivisection done by medical students is another approach.
I totally agree, using computers to lessen the number of experiments and animals used, and use substances that do not require animal testing for cosmetic/consumer products, and good regulations. But a total ban on testing might have some unintended consequences and unknown outcomes might happen in the real work that were not predicted in the computer and real people might suffer.

The movie they're sampling from is "The Plague Dogs", based on a book by the author of "Watership Down" ... and if you want a great, but one of the most depressing movies of all time, about this theme of animal experimentation, I highly recommend it

Why? Animals seem the logical choice...they cant defend themselves, were not sure theyre capable of abstract thought or have any sort of capacity for realizing what theyre going through, some of them are genetically close to humans. Theyre perfect candidates for testing.
Its not like theyre going to cure cancer, build a building, write a song, or create a great work of art
Theyre animals man...they taste good and make good pets...worry about the suffering of 6 billion of those 7 billion humans

I've noticed a certain kind of neurosis. There are people who would rather see five humans killed brutally than one animal killed humanely.
I think the jist of it is that humans are evil while animals are pure an innocent.
It's a delusion. People who think like this were likely sexually abused as children.
That said, we should avoid causing suffering in the name profit.

I agree, theres no good reason to purposefully cause undo harm to an animal just for the sake of profit.
But youre not going to make me feel bad for shooting, skinning, frying and eating an animal, that through out its life, will kill, eat, and digest, hundreds if not thousands of other animals itself.
If you want the meek, I suggest you look towards the pacifist humans. Even the meekest of animals, still murders, and still has no capacity for thought or reason.

Being anti-vivisectionist is fine,but...is there a real alternative to testing on animals?I mean,sometimes it is necessary,eg. testing of chemical substances meant to be drugs in the future.Testing them on animals is the first step,then they do it on volunteers.What I'm trying to say is that you must'nt not be so harsh when you talk about experiment-it is not against animals,but for us,the sick and disgusting humanity.

For almost every animal test there is somewhere between 2-7 slightly more expensive or more complicated alternatives. It's just human laziness. Just take the case of Britches (google him) for the tests he suffered the results could have been redeemed from studying blind human infants.

I can't say if there is absolutely a way to proceed with Medical Science without animals, but there are steps to lessen impact. Computers have really changed the field in terms of what is possible with modeling and avoiding unnecessary repeats. Ending the use of medical experiments on animals for the sake of consumer products is another step in the right direction. Minimizing the amount of vivisection done by medical students is another approach.

I totally agree, using computers to lessen the number of experiments and animals used, and use substances that do not require animal testing for cosmetic/consumer products, and good regulations. But a total ban on testing might have some unintended consequences and unknown outcomes might happen in the real work that were not predicted in the computer and real people might suffer.

Some animal testing is not morally defensible. Other testing, as long as it's on lower species such as rats or guinea pigs and is applicable to humans, is necessary. The real problems arise when they test frivolous shit like beauty products and things not meant as medicine on animals.

The movie they're sampling from is "The Plague Dogs", based on a book by the author of "Watership Down" ... and if you want a great, but one of the most depressing movies of all time, about this theme of animal experimentation, I highly recommend it
