  • Although both D'Arcangelo and Netrebko are great (Netrebko is also a pretty woman), and although I'm a Harnoncourt fan, this version is very awkward.

  • Amazing stage-concept!

  • This performance is a dramatic masterpiece imho. If you dont understand it, go watch Ponnelle production.

  • Oh my god... what a stupid stage direction... they seems drunk. And Susanna put the curtain on her head as a hat?? :(

  • I disliked this as a whole: stage directions, singers and interpretation. They seem to have totaly missed how the voices are supposed to behave with each other. I feel like as if they were each floating independantly, when they should be passionately enlaced.

  • Wonderful to listen to with eyes closed.

  • what... the.. hell..

  • Haha, I love this. The guy is measuring air at the beginning, and at the end of the piece he hugs a door. This is what happens when you smoke crack before giving stage directions.

  • @malcken HAHAHAHAHAHA! This comment made my day.

  • lovely voices!

  • D'Arcagenlo's very fine, but I don't like Netrebko..

  • Wow I had no idea that this whole production takes place in that stairwell. At least that what it looks like, without watching the whole entire thing. M

  • This production didn't make the funny thing, I mean La nozze di figaro is a funny opera, this isn't, it's like drama or a not funny opera. maybe for that some people didn't like it, but I liked it... It's just about tastes...

  • Look at Susanna's face expression when she sings her last line... My God, what's with this interpretation!?

  • Sorry for Anna Netrebko, but that vision of Le Nozze Di Figaro really sucks

  • This is not very happy? I'm not getting this interpretation...

  • I'm sorry saitbey I can't help criticizing but really it's as if they don't understand what the opera is about! And I'm not even sure we can blame the stage producer he was just choosen by the Salzburg Festival company so it's just Salburg's fault. They should stop modernizing it just ruins the works. But still it's a lesson for the others all we have to do now is staying as far as possible from that production!

  • This production is unbelivably horrible. D'Arcangelo's voice is good but it's a shame all the rest ruined it. Netrebko is not made for this part! Her voice is too heavy and her acting too. She's far from looking happy!and where is that "capello"?

If she were intelligent and respected music and Mozart just a little, she wouldn't have accepted to sing the role.

And I'm lucky I did'nt hear the recitatives because OMG !with the diction she has, I don't even want to imagine.

  • Such a pathetique Nozze di Figaro shouldn't be allowed to exist!

  • Wow!

    This.......................REALLY SUCKS!

Is Anna turning into opera's equivalent of Lang Lang? Butchers, both of them.

  • agreed!

  • Major suckage.

  • Netrebko sounds and acts like she's Norma rather than Susanna! No wit, no mozart sparkle AT ALL! It's not a mere fact of voice, is acting too!!!

  • this production just sucks!! horrible is no word for it. it's worse.

First, Netrebko's voice is way too heavy. Second, you cannot understand her. And third, she absolutely has no parlando-ability.

And she's about as heavy as the countess. If they had to cast her (why did she take on that role anyway??), they should at least have casted a much heavier countess. though... perhaps netrebko should have better sung the countess anyway.

  • The production sucks... and then all you criticize is Anna?

  • i agree... and what more - she can´t pronunce - last time i´ve heard her trying to sing aria of Rusalka (Měsíčku na nebi...) and i wanted to vomit - i´m czech and that aria is in czech but at first moment i was thinking if she´s singing in other language or what... and this performation... what´s that?!? i´m sick again - if i went for this performation, i would ask for my money back... good that mozart can´t hear this.

  • agreed 100% and the blocking makes no sense at all.

  • You are absolutely right! Although I must say, that I quite like the staging. It looks very elegant and makes a difference. Nevertheless, I prefer a more traditional production. ^^

  • D'Arcangelo is stunning as usual. The production is just totally horrible. What horrendous misguided stage direction.

  • I like this production.

  • Netrebko is awful! Does she know the importance of diction? I guess she doesn't! Her Italian is horrible! And Expressiveness??? Worse! She's like a hard black wall! NO! QUE TOSCA, PATÉTICA, HORRÍVEL! FORA DO TEMPO! SEM DICÇÃO! NAM!

  • Netrebko is not to sing Mozart's Suzanna! It's not a role for her voice. She should be, at least a little bit, aware of that, for not to commit such a mistake, i.e. singing Suzanna. D'Archangelo is good, but I didn't like the "idea" of this production. Where is the "capello" that Suzanna is trying on?And aren't they happy for just being up to get maried? I don't think and see the opera on this point of view, and I'd say it sounds rather strange!

  • Netrebko and Susanna don't go together.

She is out of rhythm and breath, screaming as it Verdi. Hello, That is Mozart!!!

  • I do agree with you. I really do not like the way she sings. I have watched quite a few different roles, but I like non of them from her.

I do not find her acting great either.

  • I don't believe I found people who have the very same opinion as mine. I don't like her the great majority of her works. She's "dry", with no expression! Here she's out of tempo, and with a haevy voice for singing Suzanna? No! Suzanna is a character for light sopranos. That's Mozart! It has to be light! The baritone here is good, but she enters, OMG!!! No! Where is the contentment that Suzanna is in for having plans for the "Marriage of Figaro"? That's the opening of the Opera!

  • you know, she's not my favorite but netrebko's fine in her roles. but she sounds like a cow in this. so, so out of place. and this tempo don't help....

i certainly wouldn't judge the production from the two or three numbers i've watched, but it looks like it could be interesting. odd, but interesting.

also, "this man" = ildebrando d'archangelo.

  • I never liked Harnoncourt,I find this staging horrible and Susanna is not for Netrebko. What else?

  • Dawn Upshaw she ain't, that's for sure.

  • This production=epic fail.

  • Almighty duet! I just love this beginning of Le Nozze. It shows that music is not just counting, but more importantly, characterization.

  • i must know who this man is.

  • Ildebrando D'Arcangelo... the best bass-bariton of our time! And he is perfect!

  • amazing. his voice is just gorgeous!

  • yeah, on the other hand hers seem really poor on this...

  • i dont like the ambient what its doing.

he count the meter for the bed but where is the bed?

  • It makes sense in the context of the whole opera. The whole thing is like one big dream.

  • i didn't like Netrebko as Susanna...and the tempo to slow

  • great singers...but I don't like this version, I think it's senseless. What is he measuring? and what sort of hat is she talking about?

  • It's like they lost all the props. This production is just SO weird.

  • @LordBeff

Well... as it looks, Figaro is going to sleep in the hall after the wedding and susannas gonna marry with a curtain on her head. :D I think big parts of the libretto work in this very different interpreation - but this one doesnt.

  • @LordBeff My understanding is that in this scene, Figaro is measuring the room for the fitting of a bridal bed, for the ensuing marriage of Susanna (to himself).

  • @LordBeff Susanna is talking about her bridal veil, which she refers to as an hat (it fits better with the music to say hat rather than veil).

  • @LordBeff They are counting the space to see if their marriage bed fits in the room.

  • @HittokiriBattousai17 I know that but he doesn't seem to be measuring anything...

  • Anne Netrebko is a beautiful singer, I truly believe that! But seeing her as Susanna...made my stomach curdle. The role is not right for her...I'm sorry.

  • I quite agree. Netrebko does much better in roles that favour her rather heavy, mature voice. Rossini or Puccini would be better.

  • i kind of like it when the actors wear more modern clothes :/

  • APPROVED BY THE ANGEL OF MUSIC

    Saluti!!!.

  • No no no, I don't like her as Susanna. She has a great voice and I love "La Traviata" with her, but this is too dark for so light a character.

  • Beautiful voices and settings but, what was that shape of the bed he was measuring?!?! LOL.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing Netrebko as the countes...someone said she was too young, but I'm pretty sure that Le Nozze is only a year or two after Il Barbiere...so she needn't be old. In any case, Susanna needs a light pretty voice, which Netrebko does NOT have. Oh well. I really don't like the whole complete mozart set!

  • I love the voices. I understand that this version wasn't meant to be the light-hearted trifle it truly is, sort of a "darker"(?) version. It grows on me...nothing beats the original though!

  • Musicalmente bien, pero le falta autenticidad; no me gusta nada la escenificación, me resulta tonta.

  • Musicalmente bien, pero le falta autenticidad; no me gusta nada la escenificación, me resulta tonta.

  • great voices but I don't really understand what the fuck are they doing... lol... they looks like dumbasses xD

  • hey if you don't like what I say just reply... :P

  • I'm going to agree with almost everyone else, I don't really like this version. It's too lifeless. Although Anna Netrebko is extremely beautiful, I agree with BelCanto85 that she would have sounded better as La Contessa, but then she's too young really.

  • lol, figaro looks so miserable

  • i meant mierda....i.e. S***...there's no emotion, does figaro actually love susana? The emotion doesn't match the words. Aren't they newly weds??? Shouldn't he be more excited...what a waste of great voices

  • this is the opening of the opera...

they arent wed at all yet...

it was the intention of the performance of "figaro" in salzburg 2006 + 2007 to be a kind of "grey" version of it and not a happy funny thing...

  • merida is correct HAHAHA

  • isn't it a little bit slow???I love Netrebko but here she is not so good

  • I love Anna Netrebko's singing in this, but I think her voice is better suited to the Contessa. It sounds a little out of place as a flirty chambermaid.

  • I agree. But the Countess In this production-Dorothea Roschmann-Superceeds even Schwarzkopf and Te Kanawa! Netrebko never will be one of my favorite singers..

  • lol at using the curtain as a hat, this version is certainly quirky

  • Esta versión es un mierdaaaaa!!!!

  • i love mozart, this music is amazing and great

mozart is the best composer of the world.
